Well hello there Just!

I thought you had your vocal cords removed because we haven't heard from you in a while! :heehee:

:rofsign:yeah the vocal cords were on a sabbatical! Sometimes I think my husband may wish they were removed, especially when I sing really really loud and purposely baaaaaaaaaad! :heehee:

I was worried about having them done so close together because of the trouble I was/am still having with the Baker's Cyst in the left knee but I can't worry about that anymore because the right one is done. I was shocked because this one is soooooo painful compared to the other one. Only two days out I know but its still very stiff and really doesn't want to flex, its at a 0 though in extension. Before I was permitted to leave the hospital just 5 1/2 hours after having it done I had to bend it at least 90 degrees, its about wha,t 20 degrees this morning. Yes I know, patience and you would think that I would have learned this from the last one which wasn't so long ago...! I have learned that I do.....not......have patience with myself, must be something to do with my errrrrrrrrrr fierce independent streak (a.k.a. as stubbornness to some, maybe)...:rotfl:!

Jo said to remember the BoneSmart Mantra.....I don't remember exactly what that is, thinking it has to to do with icing, elevation, pain medication and NOT slowing down, hahahahaha! I know my bad, must be the pain medication affecting my brain.

Sonja, you have been through so much with your knee/s and you are an inspiration, and indeed you will soon be getting a start on that bucket list me thinks. I have set a goal for next winter, snowmobiling and downhill skiing...maybe even get back on the ice skates...hockey anyone?

Josephine I was looking for on here what I think was referred to as the BS Cocktail, I cannot seem to find it. I am having so so much pain that I am overwhelmed and wondering if that would help...thanks!
BoneSmart tylenol/ibuprofen cocktail

But that won't be any good for you at the moment.
I have some questions to ask you:
1. what pain meds you you have right now, what dose are you taking and how often?
2. how often are you icing your knee?
3. how often and how high are you elevating your leg?
4. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping and PT?

You might also remember these
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!

And you need to read all of these, very carefully!

Josephine
1. what pain meds you you have right now, what dose are you taking and how often?
I am taking Ketorolac (Toradol) 10 mgs every six hours

2. how often are you icing your knee?
I am icing the knee about 95% of the time when I am laying or sitting down

3. how often and how high are you elevating your leg?
I am not elevating the leg because my surgeon is dead set against it and he asks that his patients don't elevate. I did try to elevate once though but it hurt even more...

4. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping and PT?
I get up and move around or try to once every hour or two, its just been a little over 48 hours since I have had this done so I am not yet ready to do much in the way of housework although I have tried to do a little, just some laundry and dishes. PT, I am doing my exercises three times a day and will start with a physiotherapist next Friday.

Wow! You're doing a whole lot more than I was in the first 2 days! I spent most of those days in a drug-induced stupor on my sofa with my leg propped way high and my husband waiting on me. For me the elevation really helped and still does. I was happy to hear from you T and know you came through okay. Sorry about the pain issues you're dealing with; I hope you can get that under control. Hang in there my friend!:friends:

Tessa,
Glad to hear you are doing okay for 2 days out. Rest and go slow but sure.
The nerve of Sonja not to tell us she had a video out, well I'll be.....

Thanks Lori...:)

I didn't really do too much just put a load of laundry in the washer and washed a few dishes that were there staring me down and daring me to leave them alone....lol! I am mostly veggie on the sofa too but elevating hurts...tried it at different heights all with the same result, muscle spasms in my quad, at least that is what it feels like. Gave my three year old his bath early this morning but he helped a lot and liked that mommy was able to help him. My kids are being awesome (a almost 8 yr old and a 3 yr old)...and hubby is more than I could ever have hoped for...!

Tessa, slow down girl! Two days out and you're doing way too much as far as I'm concerned. I am very surprised your doc said not to elevate, that's what helps to prevent blood clots and helps to straighten your leg. Did you not elevate when you had your first knee done? And your pain meds don't seem to be strong enough for taking care of your pain level, but Jo will comment on that when she gets back to you.
Dishes and laundry? Oh my, I was luck to have just enough energy to get myself up to go to the bathroom and get some water or something to eat now and then, but that was it.

Please take it easy on yourself, this is a slow process as you well know! Slow and easy wins the race and try not to compare this knee with your other one, they both have seperater lives.

Stay well and stay positive, and welcome to the otherside once again my BoneSmartie friend!:friends:

P.S. Please don't jump off the bridge with Sonja, she's always getting hurt!

Jacky! :sigh:

Do you always have to ruin my fun! You see Just, is going to go FIRST, so we will know whether our bungee cord was the right length! You are absolutely correct. I have hurt myself too much, so Just will test out all products for their safety and efficiency while I "hold her sign!" :rotfl: If you don 't know what I mean by holding her sign, watch a clip of Bill Engvall's and you will figure it out! :heehee:

I am curious, Just, how did you get your hands on my video! I had it locked up in a vault along with other misdeeds!

JustmeT--sounds like you're doing a lot. You know the drill--be kind to your knee. :)
I hope you can find a good way to elevate.

Hi,
I wasn't able to elevate the BoneSmart way, because of nausea problems. But I did at least keep it up on the couch, not down on the floor. Do you think your doctor would be okay with that? It really dies help with the pain.
J

Jacky48 No, I didn't elevate with the other knee either, same surgeon and same routine, however I did elevate the knee for about 15-20 mins. last evening and it did help reduce the pain for a little while, which was a relief, until the quad acted up again.

This is what the dosage and the medication the OS prescribed and he is aware of the trouble I have had with pain meds when I had the other knee done.

I keep having to remind myself that I need to slow down, it is a long process and its hard to not compare it with the other one.....but I try to keep in mind that its totally different knees.

Thanks for your kind words oh and, shhhhhhhh don't tell Sonja that I have no intention of being the guinea pig for her bungee experiments, hahahaha, just making her think I will.

karmigirl yeah I will have to see what else she left in the vault that I can share at the appropriate times, muuhahahahah!:cheers2:

Thanks for the kind words and I will try to go slow....yikes!

I think I am holding THAT sign for someone else...read comment I made to Jacky, hahahahaha! OH and YOU bad! :rotfl:

kneeper I was looking at it this way, it didn't matter if I was laying down, sitting or standing it was paining no matter what so I did a couple of things trying to get my mind off it. I am being kinder to it today though. Elevating and I don't seem to be working out well !

Jebsw I have been and am keeping it up on the couch but once in a while I have to put it on the floor...but for now I don't leave it in that position for long.
