@Josephine , it is SO HARD to be in slow recovery mode! Heck, even YOU did stairs your first day home! (I DID read your threads). Here I am 5 weeks and just managing the one step. YOU bent down to feed the cat! I am bending at the waist, which PT keeps saying is not good for my back. Well, that's the only way I could bend for the last 8 years.
Too soon to worry about quad strength? I can't get out of chairs! I am only comfortable in bed. I have one chair I sit in, cushions stacked on it, and I have a heck of a time getting up out of it. It is the best of the situation here, PT set it up for me. I did NOT have this issue with my first / left knee.
I came on and posted yesterday (post 109) because I was frustrated and sad. Not really looking for help, I know what to do and not do from my first knee; far as I can tell, I am not doing anything I shouldn't in terms of exercises because I'm just plain not doing ANY! OK, I mentioned the 5 squats, but other than doing them once w/ PT here, I have not done them since.
It is fine for folks on here to say slow down, take it easy. Quite a different matter when it is YOU trying to slow down. I am so frustrated! I know it is 'just' 5 weeks, but I FEEL like I have been in this slow recovery mode for a year or more. I am tired of being 'helpless,' of being confined, of being limited in what I can do. I am tired of looking at things that I want to get done and having no choice but to put it off for . . . weeks? months?
Anyway . . .
Four days ago, I put down my glasses and my hair clip. I have yet to find them. (I have loads of hair clips, that is not the issue except that I know the 2 are together so should be that much easier to find.) I can't even watch TV w/out my glasses! Found an old pair, one arm is broken and taped together. At least I can see. So this afternoon I went to have a quick eye doc appointment (my last eye exam was over a year ago, so no one will use that for new glasses) and ordered new glasses. Total time out of the house: 1 hour 10 minutes. And I came home exhausted, went to bed, sound asleep for over 2 hours.
While I was there, I was explaining to the young lady helping me about my surgery, why I am not able to sit in the chair she offered me, I need one with arms. A man came over to me and said: " Don't worry, it gets better! Look!" And he raised his right leg, so the top of it was parallel to the floor, stood on one foot. He went on, "total knee replacement 2 years ago. You WILL get better, just hang in there!" Gosh, I really needed to hear that at that moment, lol.
Edit to add:
@sistersinhim I plan to stop in home PT tomorrow. I explained earlier in this thread why I have kept it on until my first OS visit post op; health insurance, not sure how it works, concerned if I stop PT and then need coverage.
