OMG I’m back with Bonesmart, I first joined in 2010 fir my first hip and now I’m booked Oct 26 for a knee.
Before every surgery the bonesmart community has been such a great help, answering questions, calming my nerves and I’ll sure need this for the knee.
I sure hope it goes as well as the hips

Thank you for supporting BoneSmart by joining Insiders, @Sabine.

I saw your post about having difficulty finding the Recovery Guidelines. Since your surgery is just a few days away, I will share them here:

Each article is short, but informative. Following these guidelines will help you have a less painful recovery. Just keep in mind we are all different, as are the approaches to this recovery and rehab. The key is, “Find what works for you.” Your doctors, PTs and BoneSmart are available to help, but you are the final judge as to the recovery approach you choose.

KNEE RECOVERY GUIDELINES
(Note to Basic Members: The links below are a premium service available only to Insiders Club Members. To learn about membership, click here ).

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary.

2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
don't overwork your new knee.

3. Do what you want to do BUT
If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you.
If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. Good Nutrition is essential for successful recovery:

Nutrition Basics

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

and please also read the Recovery myths below.

5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

7. If you want something to assist with incision healing and scar management, BoneSmart recommends hypochlorous solution. Members in the US can purchase ACTIVE Antimicrobial Hydrogel through BoneSmart at a discount. Similar products should be available in the UK and other countries.

8. Still need recovery aids? The BoneSmart Recovery Shop offers BoneSmarties best-loved recovery products at great prices.

Hi Sabine,
I remember you from your second THR, welcome back!
We're grateful to read your kind words about the forum and hope you'll feel just as supported as previous times spent here. Not too long now until your big day. Please let us know if you have any questions after you read through the information above. Wishing you peace of mind as you wait and a smooth surgery and recovery!
@Sabine

I’ll sure need this for the knee.
I sure hope it goes as well as the hips
As someone who has been through both hip and knee replacements, I want to prepare you for the fact that most of us find TKR recovery takes longer and is a bit more challenging than THR recovery.

I had my first hip replacement in 2019, and went into my first knee surgery (2021) expecting it to be the same. It was not and I wasn't prepared for a longer, slower journey. However, the BoneSmart team helped me put my recovery in perspective and take the right steps and I did end up with a great outcome.

We are here to help you have a successful recovery. Don't hesitate to ask questions!

Sorry to hear you now need a knee replacement, but very happy that you returned here for support. Once a BoneSmartie, always a BoneSmartie!!

The guidelines Deb posted for you should help, but we’re here to address any additional concerns that might pop up. Post when you can to let us know how you’re doing and what preparations you’ve made.
