My bf knocked my crutches directly on my knee/ kneecap
It does hurt. Should I worry about it or just wait for it to subside?
Silver

Oh dear, it sounds like you were doing great until the crutches came down on your kneecap. If it is still hurting a lot you might go get it checked.

It is hurting less. Ice helps. Think I will wait a bit and see
Thanks BJ!

Silver,
I did something similar and pulled my walker directly into my knee (at a restaurant couldn't scream).
Probably is okay just ice and elevate for a few days and it should improve. These knees are pretty tough cookies and it takes alot to mess them up.

Thanks, Rose (understand about the scream factor!) and I actually feel better already. Have been icing heavily and it is working. May take a break from CPM tonight though.
Sure do not want to set myself backwards, so this was a bit scary!

Silver

Silver, I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better already. I would skip the cpm tonight too, that sounds like a wise idea.

Good afternoon,
Knee still hurts. I did my exercises, but was not as easy as it was yesterday morning and
my knee does hurt. I think I will call my doc tomorrow if it is not vastly improved. He is not on call this weekend
and some of the others in the practice are not very good so that is why I have not called. Not sure what
they would do anyway.
If I stand up too long, it truly does hurt even with pain meds.
So frustrated that this happened and my BF feels so horrible about it too.
I am sure it will get better with time.
Thanks BJ! Silver

Sounds like a good plan.

Silver, that stinks that your knee is still bothering you so much. I hope that the doctor can figure it out tomorrow and that you are feeling much better very soon. (((((hugs)))))

Silver,
Sounds like you have a good plan going. It never hurts to call the OS if things just are not feeling right to you. Good luck with the outcome and please let us know how things are going.

Hi gang,

I called the doc, he said it had certainly happened before! He said to stay off CPM machine 3 or so days and ice tons and watch the bending till it feels better. Glad I called him anyway, made me feel better!
Silver

I am glad you called, you will feel better knowing that you are acting according to his advise and not just guessing. So, rest, ice and elevate. I hope that in a few days you are feeling great. :friends:

Silver, I can't believe you haven't been given the articles about recovery to read. It sounds like you really need them! But before I do that, I have some questions to ask you:
1. what dose of Percocet are you taking and how often?
2. how often are you icing your knee?
3. how often and how whigh are you elevating your leg?
4. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping and PT?

At 3½ weeks you are very early in your recovery and should be doing almost nothing but rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock! PT should be little and only a couple of times a day, gentle stretches and heel slides. Never EVER do any exercise that causes you pain or to the point where it causes you pain. For example, heels slides should be done to the point of discomfort only. Forget the "no pain, no gain" nonsense. The correct way is "no pain, MORE gain"!

Josephine,
It sounds like you think I am doing too much. Let me assure you that I have been a vegetable more than not.
I take my Percocet every 4-5 hours (4 since the crutch accident Sat) and it is 5-325. I ice constantly and have my leg up almost all the time. I do very little other work, as I have had people staying with me. I am starting to do more, as I will probably be home alone starting week 4.5

I have read the recovery articles in the library. I have been out of the house twice, for doctors appointments. I have been a model patient, just had an unfortunate accident with crutches. But Today it is much better too.

PT is not making me hurt either, they are not pushing me to do more than I can, but I do the exercises 3x per day.
I was doing 4 hours of CPM but they picked up the machine yesterday.
I do have to go back to work in 2 weeks, so am trying to slowly get ready for that.

Thanks for the help. Silver

I had my knee x-rayed yesterday and had not done any damage to it, thank goodness. Just bruised. It is slowly getting back to the normal that it was (although that was not normal) So relieved!
So back to my normal routine.

Silver

Wow Silver I think it is going to be really tough to work in two weeks! Could you stay home another two or three weeks? If it is not possible, then you will have to find some way to ice that knee and consider wearing a compression stocking so that the swelling does not get out of hand. It will be a struggle, but I do understand economics. Kelly

Good to hear!

I wish I could. I have to work for one week, then I can take off again if I need to. There is no one else to do that part of my job. I will ice at work though as much as I can. I need to work 4 full time days and then 3 part time days. Then I can work part time for awhile. It will work out somehow! At least I can ice and elevate at work.
Thanks for the concern! Silver

Silver,
I wish you could wait a bit longer but since you cannot you seem to have a good plan in order. If that first week is really rough for you do try and take some time after that.

I know, I will just have to work it out. I am sure it will be okay!
Thanks for all the support!
Silver
