how long are we supposed to wear these support stockings ( Teds) we call them in the UK, they make my feet and legs so hot.

I had to wear mine for two weeks after getting out of the hospital. I hated then!! They made my legs and feet hurt because they were so tight...kinda the idea huh? Then at my two week check up I asked if I could take them off, the physicians assistant told me to wear them two more weeks, but when I asked the doctor he said, Naaaw you can take them off now! Once we left the office I took them off in the car as my husband drove down the road and I never put them on again! :hissyfit:

Just curious...What is the story with TEDs? I've never heard of anyone in Canada using them...Is there evidence that they improve the outcome?

Quite the opposite! But they caught on and now surgeons are too leery to stop using them! It is estimated that the NHS could save a couple of million pounds a year if we stopped wasting money on TEDs.

But I think you might find there are a lot of Canadian hospitals using them, probably just not ones in your area of experience.

to day i have reached another mile stone i have managed to walk up and down the stairs using foot over foot and not one step at a time, be it slowly but it means my knee is getting stronger, i have not used my stick on the stairs all week so to be able to walk up nearly normal is grate. i am finding the leg raises easer now and can do 20 at a time as you might remember i had difficulty doing leg raises i am only 2 weeks post op, i found Laying face down on the bed with your knee on the edge of the mattress. Gravity will help pull your leg down and increase your extension. Start with 5 minutes (less if that is too much) and work up to 15 minutes. really helpful i can do 6 minutes now.its grate to see improvement, still got the band feeling though just above the knee that is the one thing that frustrates me the most.

Hi
can any one recommend a link to watching the TKR on video call me strange but i am inquisitive

To the best of my knowledge - scant, maybe - long interval stretches are not as good as multiple repetitions of short interval (10secs or so) ones.

My ATC for our school athletic department says that stretches should be done for about 30 seconds---no bouncing or jouncing, just a nice gentle stretch to the point of tension for 30 seconds and then rest/repeat.

I did more or less the same thing, but with small ankle weights attached to my legs; I did the stretches for 30 seconds and then repeated.

Congrats too on your stairs! That is a big victory!

Congratulations on the stairs!
I am thrilled for you!
I googled 'Knee replacement surgery", and several sites popped up, I scrolled until I found this greusome procedure.
Now I am a Surgeon, and this procedure horrified me, so be warned!!!
Sandy

Congratulations on the stairs, Dawni. You are doing so well at two weeks post-op.

Sounds like you're doing quite well. I sure didn't do stairs foot over foot that early! That band feeling is very normal and will last a while.

Well done with the stairs, Dawn. And at only 2 weeks post op! I'm almost 9 weeks and still can't do them coz of quad lag.

Heck, Campervan---I'm at 16 weeks and still can't go down properly, only up holding on to the rail. But I know I'll get there eventually. So all things come in their own time. Judy

Gee, its definitely true that we all recover differently.

Congrats Dawni, that is amazing to do the stairs correctly at only two weeks, you should be very pleased with yourself. I agree that the tight band feeling can go on for a long time it seems.

I love the pooches, how many are there, what ages are they, and are they from one family? They must keep you busy Dawni. :friends:

Dawni,

If you go to the Zimmer replacement site I know they have a few surgeries on there. I wanted to know before surgery what they were going to do to me so I watched all I could find. Be prepared they can get a bit icky.
