Hi Dawni

Sorry you haven't felt so good. At about 2/3 weeks I got a bit down and depressed but it soon passed. For me I felt fed up with the immobility and lack of contact with the outside world. It is a tough recovery but it will be worth it in the end. Take care.

Hi Dawni, sorry you are a bit down, and this is par for the course, I know I felt like a spare part for some time, but the good thing is that Spring is on its way, and think ahead a little as to what you are going to be able to do this summer that maybe you couldn't last year. Its so wonderful to be free of that arthritic pain, and with a strong knee to boot, and its only around the corner, just hang in there for a few weeks more and I am sure you will be posting just how much better you feel, etc.

Its a long winding road, but the outcome is so worth it to all of us!! :friends:

Hi Dawni -Others will tell you also that this depression at this stage is very normal and very common- and feels awful. It does go away but it's a tough one. My personal antidote is to get out of the house, even if only for a few minutes. If you can get someone to take you to an indoor shopping area, that's great -and for me- the trip must include a good coffee ! Hope you're feeling better...

Thanks Randi & Aretha
its nice to know you are not on your own and its normal to feel like this, i am going in to work tomorrow just to say hello to my girls and to have a coffee i miss them all so much as i am their manager it seems strange not to be in charge and i think my mined is becoming sort of muchy, there is only so much day time TV you can watch.

Mushy mind is also part of this journey. But soon you'll be able to focus more and read a book if you want. Meanwhile enjoy not having to do or think too much -it will all be waiting for you !

These feelings---while not nice at all---are all normal---the combination of pain meds, the feeling at times of isolation---the loss of appetite, the lack of energy due to the body diverting to the healing of the knee---all have an effect on you.

I also believe that the lack of of working---doing something that we really enjoy--has something to do with it, too. One reason that I was eager to get back to the classroom was that i missed my fellow teachers!

Hang in there---everyday you get closer to reaching your goal of having a normal life!

i went into work to day at 10.00 am until 2.00pm i did some paper work thats all sat at my desc nothing else, i feel very tired but really good at the same time, i am a catering manager, i know that just sitting at my desc and doing a small amount of paper work was all i could manage, no going in to the kitchens at all,
i think if i can do this once a week for a few hours at a time will ease me into it when i am ready, for the eight hours at a time. my mind feels less mushy if that makes sense, but know my limits and i will rest tomorrow. :loll:

Hi Dawni, I too felt very down and so I got back into some work after two weeks. Fortunately I can work from home, I'm an Accountant. So I just did 45 mins twice a day. I've been into the office in town once a week for the past 3 weeks. It certainly helped my sanity to focus on something other than my knee.

Good idea ladies to go and do something constructive, it is good not to think about the darn knee all the time

I agree Dawni, although it is so early days for you, please be sensible and not overdo it, as the lst thing you want to do is set yourself back when you are going along so nicely.

I paint for my sins, and I found that when I could actually concentrate on anything that getting back to my easel and watercolours was very therapeutic for me, and took my mind completely off my knee for parts of the day that I was most bored, and I could do a little and then come back to it later in the day and carry on. I also work from home on my PC doing mailshots for a marketing ccompany, not too much, around 25 hours a month, but again it is getting the mind concentrated on anything other than knees!! It soon lets me know when I have been sitting too long and need to walk around.

Make sure you get up regularly and walk around too Dawni, esepcially at the stage you are at, but all credit to you for getting back to normal when you feel ready.

Take care...:friends:

i went to my PT session to day and the results are good, my bend is now 120 degrees last week it was 110 and my straight flex is 00 last week it was 7. they are moving me up to a more advanced class in 2 weeks time, and my PT is very impressed with how far i have come in a short time, i cant tell you how pleased i am with the results it has really lifted my spirits, so to celebrate i had my first bubble bath since my TKR it was haven i then pushed the boat out and had a glass of wine so happy days :cocktail_martini:

Dawni, congratulations, those results are amazing at the early stage you are at, you must be made up. You are barely even 4 weeks yet, and to have had your first bubble bath is great. Also your ROM and extension seem to be so good!:dancy:

Hope you go on from strength to strength Dawni. You will be out walking your pooches before too long too.:friends:

You're doing great!

Hi Dawni. You are doing so well, you have much more ROM than I have, I am still only at 90. I am going to call you for chat, but in case you are out "working" I will keep trying. Very well done. Lots of love Hilaryxxx

Not a happy bunny, the end of my scar towards my thigh seemed to look well the only description i can use is like i has squeezed a spot, so i covered it and a few hours later removed the dressing to find a very small amount of yellow yet again like i had popped a spot, so went to my GP, she told me i have a small infection in my scar and has given me some antibiotics to take, should i phone the hospital so that the surgeon can be informed???? all was ok yesterday so i hope the antibiotics will sort the problem and that i have court this in the nick of time, has any one else had this??? any other advice would be grate.
