It's not at all uncommon to get tiny superficial infections around stitches. Happens all the time and a short course of antibiotics will soon sort it out. It's only in the top 2-3mm of skin so don't worry about it. By all means phone the surgeon's secretary if it calms you but I expected he will say the same thing. Your GP did the right thing.

For now, just keep it dry and covered with sterile dressings. Any Band Aid type will do as long as the wrapper is in good condition meaning not damaged, worn or torn.
 
AM I INVISIBLE? i hired a wheel chair for crufts to go round the stalls at Crufts this weekend, its a new ball game if you are in a wheel chair, every one Spock to Steve not me we went to stalls and i gave the man the money for my purchase and he gave Steve the change, they spoke to Steve if i asked a question, and the man at the gates said good by to Steve but yet again i was invisible, i was in the wheel chair for 2 days whilst at crufts what it must be like for some one who is in it all the time, must really upset them, and i think you have to walk in some ones shoes to know what it is like, i was really cross and wanted to scream at them are we not the same?
 
Dawni, I can quite believe your experience in a wheelchair - absolutely disgraceful how people treat disabled folks!! Did you buy some nice treats for your doggies? How's the knee behaving?
 
Hi Dawni -I work with older adults and this is their complaint, too. When I go out with my 85 year old Mom who uses a walker, everyone talks to me, not her- We now have a consistent ploy -I pretend I can't hear and she waddles "Helooo, I'm right here !" Gets attention, for sure.

It is shameful behaviour and you should yell !!
 
It is shameful!!! I hope you spoke up to the people who were ignoring you. That needs to happen more.
 
i went for my 6 week check up and was told every thing is really good, he was very pleased with me,i told him about the infection i had last week and he looked at it and said i think it is a stitch that is giving you a problem and took a look pulling back the scab he found a 1/2" stitch with a knot on it that was supposed to have dissolved but had not, even though i had staples there still are stitches in side so i hope i will hear the end of that, and he dose not want to see me for another year, so happy days.
what i can now do:
i drove for the first time today
i can walk up & down stairs one foot over the other, still a bit stiff
get in & out the bath.
take small walks
do hoovering slowly
am sleeping better now
the bedroom side of things is better now:biggrin::blush:
my flex is 120 and i have a straight leg 00
pain meds are to a minimum of 2 slow release Tramadol a day
and i go in to work once a week but to only sit at my desc and do book work no standing.
no sticks or crutches.
so all in all i feel grate, yes i still have pain but that is improving all the time. :dancy::yay:

yes Jazbe i spoilt them rotten, not that they noticed it was a good week end

Randi i made a few comments but i could and still cant get over it as i said every one should walk in some ones shoes for a day. its really bad as humans we treet others like this.

Hi Dawni, its wonderful to see how well you are doing, and I found the same thing when shopping early on in my recovery using a wheelchair around the supermarket with my hubby pushing me. Everyone spoke to Fred and not to me - it made me realise to always say hello to anyone in a wheelchair and offer them the help and not the carer.

You are doing exceptionally well Dawni, and it looks like you are well on the way to your own recovery. Keep it up and may it last.

i have been away to Cornwall for a holiday with my husband and our daughter and our 3 year old grandson, we had a really nice time Cornwall it is such a nice place, managed to go swimming and had a lot of really nice long walks that i managed really well, still a little bit of discomfit but not to bad,
on another not i will be returning to work tomorrow i am a bit nervous but looking forward to it , i have been going in 1 or 2 days a week for some time now feels like my first day, i would like to thank you all for your support over the months, i will still pop in and enjoy your company xx
 
Hi Dawni. I totally missed your post of March 13. I am so glad to see you do so well, especially with the shaky beginning. I also had stir bed popping up and I believe there's another one making it's way out still. Enjoy your new knee and all the activities it's allowing you to do!

Hi Dawni,

You seem to be doing remarkably well now, and life is pretty much returning to normal for you which is great. Do still continue with the exercises when you can, and your ROM and extension sould great to me, just about what mine are now at 18 months on!!!

Glad you had a good few days in Cornwall, its such a beautiful county and we love it there, go to Falmouth sometimes and absolutely love it and the fish in the restaurants there.

Time goes by so fast and I can't believe that it is now 19 months on from my TKR and life is back to normal (whatever that is) and I get few reminders from my knee that its not well, mostly its a good barometer and lets me know when its cold and wet, but other than that life is good.

Thanks, i will most certainly return to Cornwall next time may be on our own so we can do more adult things as this time it was geared up to entertain our grandson, i would love to go see the Eden project,
my return to work has been ok and my knee dose let me know that i have had a full day, i look forward to when i have no pain at all and dont think about my knee every day wonder how long that will be.
i have had trouble coming of Tramidol bad experiences with it and not realising that my body was addicted to it, i am weaning my self off of it slowly reducing the amount and i am now down to half a pill once a day if i had known i would be doing this i would never have taken it, but i am getting there and will beet this once and for all.

I guess it affects everyone differently, I took Tramadol for some time after my knee op and I found no problems when I came off it, so I would always recommend it to anyone else. Its funny how it is addictive to some of us but not others.

Hope you do beat it and it will be some time before you can completely forget about your knee, 19 months in and I can still feel some stiffness/tightness in my knee but its so not a problem, and I keep thinking that one day it will disappear altogether, but not holding my breath.

I am so sorry I have not been in touch, but Graham's Mum has been poorly, and we have been visiting every evening after work for the last 9+ weeks, nothing is getting done at home, the garden looks like a jungle, the house a tip, and the computer is the last thing I have had time to do. We have finally told her that we will only visit 2 times in the week and at the weekend once, it is killing us, as we have been going over every night since she went into hospital in early April, she lives about 40 min drive away, so the evening is gone by the time we get home. Hope all is well with you.
Also we are doing up Mum's flat which will cost thousands to get right to let, boiler is not safe, cooker is not safe, we need to change all the carpets except the lounge, and the bathroom floor needs to be laminate. We have decorated it now, but there is so much stuff, ornaments etc., kitchen stuff, that I need to go through, her garage is full of stuff we dont know what to do with, have to do a boot sale, or dump it, some can go to charity, but other stuff cant, whew, thats is why I have not been on here for a while, well a long while. Knee is going well, still cant go downstairs properly, but practicing, finished with physio, and see Mr. Smith next week for final check.
Hope your knee is getting there, and all your puppies are good.
