THR Fairydell's recovery thread

I hope this ends soon for you! When you say the surgeon didn't know about your leg do you mean someone at the hospital lined you up with a brace and didn't tell the surgeon?

I was taking something in the hospital and the first few days at home that made my mouth so dry I could barely talk at times. I found Hall's or Ricola mints to suck on helped immensely. It all went away with a week when I stopped taking so many drugs. I was on something for itching, for nausea, for spasms as well as the pain killers. I stopped everything but the pain killers and my mouth returned to normal. Drinking lots of water helped too but of course made more trips to BR. Good luck!

Oh dear. Thank God your weren't hurt on that fall. I had a walker and it prevented me from falling a couple of times. You made me laugh describing Tony sleeping on the other couch. Too funny. Maybe he misses you. I hope you see your OS, because this sounds serious to me. Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time.

I am so sorry to read that you are still having troubles at night. @Fairydell Really hope you can get some sleep. It sounds like your body is screaming for rest. Maybe you need to add some calming meds. Have you tried melatonin or magnesium or both? When I get too tired, your description matches how I feel. Hypersensitive is exactly it. When I get like that, I know I’ve waited too long to rest. It’s a horrible feeling. Will keep you in my prayers. ❤️

Earlier question. I use flaxseed every day. Either mixed in yogurt or on top of cooked oats. Start with 1 tablespoon. That is all I use. It adds fiber and healthy fat. I’ve read fat can really help with regularity. I’ve never had much luck with prunes. I also think eating a whole apple daily is helpful. The peal is great for fiber. I am so terrible at finding threads. Need to review how to find again. Sorry for late response.

Hi @Fairydell
I hope you're feeling better since you last posted. I can't imagine that hypersensitivity, my heart goes out to you in that. It sounds so miserable.

If you found a comfy place to sleep on the sofa and hubs is as nurturing and understanding as he sounds, I'd lovingly explain that when you can't sleep, YouTube has been keeping you company. I'd also mention there's no sense in both of you losing sleep while some nights you prefer to wander back and forth from sofa to bed and when all else fails you watch videos to fall asleep. It will ease the pressure of not being able to do "whatever" gets you through these early days/ nights. Hopefully he understands and returns to the den for some quality sleep overnight. If he's not already, he also needs to get out of the house for a few hours here and there. It will help him stay fresh as he continues to care for you.

Check out the article below and see if it describes what you're dealing with -

Wishing you comfort, a peaceful weekend and a happy Easter.

I agree with @Layla
I did a lot of wandering when I first got home after my hip ops. Got up from bed went downstairs to the recliner, watched some TV, dozed. Got up and went to the kitchen, went back to bed. Sometimes I repeated the whole process. It used to drive me mad but anything is better than laying in bed willing yourself to sleep when you can't.

We need @Josephine to look through your thread. Several issues going on with the hypersensitivity, buckling knee and I'm not clear on whether you've received a decent explanation about your knee issue.
I've tagged Jo, but with Easter I'm not sure when she will be checking in.
Please check back as she will most likely have questions.
I hope today is a good day.

Thanks @Layla Tony isn't the most nurturing of people unfortunately... He had felt very guilty for not being a lot of help... then he opted for the spare bed last night so that he could get some sleep. I had a relatively decent rest... sleep doesn't come in much more than hourly bursts but I set myself up a little crafting project and put the radio on low. Each time I woke up I played with my craft project until I felt sleepy again. I might not have slept much but it certainly took my mind of the hypersensitive leg. I have an appointment with the surgeon next week.... no one had told him about my leg..

This is my little craft project from through the night. They need finishing off but I really enjoyed making them

That is beautiful! Great job and I'm glad you have something to engage in as a distraction when you're unable to sleep.

I'm happy to hear you're meeting with your OS next week. If you're meaning no one told your surgeon about your leg buckling, that seems inexcusable. That should be noted in your medical records and you'd think "flagged" as something, that at the very least, deserved some discussion or reassurance from your surgeon or a member of his team.

I hope he's able to offer some consolation when you visit next week, as well as suggestions for relief from the awful hypersensitivity you're dealing with. I'm so sorry you're struggling as you are. :console2:
@Fairydell

I love your little flowers! Very pretty!
I agree with Layla, that is inexcusable that the surgeon wasn't briefed and also that he wasn't more diligent in reading your chart. I am happy to hear you have found a way to make the nights a bit more bearable.

I'd really like to offer you some structured advice but in order to do that, I also need to ask you some questions. Are you willing for me to do that?

I don't think he ever saw my charts after his brief post op visit. . He possibly works in this particular hospital one day each week and then different days in other hospitals. I would have been discharged by the time he next was at the hospital.. I am surprised though that he doesn't check up on his patients before they are discharged just in case of problems.

Happy Easter!
I hope you're having a good day @Fairydell
Will look forward to your exchange with Josephine.
Wishing you comfort.

How beautiful!
Hang in there my hippy friend.
We are all rooting for you!:loveshwr::loveshwr::loveshwr:
