THR Fairydell's recovery thread

@Fairydell the flowers are lovely. Where did you learn to do that?
I am going on a stained glass course at the beginning of June (should be getting about better in my new knee by then). Really looking forward to it.

Do you like jigsaws? I have found them really useful to while away the time.

I hope your meeting with the OS goes well.

Bionic, I saw them on Youtube many years ago.

Tony and I went to stained glass classes for several years a long time ago. For my birthday about ten years ago we went to Wales (and another time to Sheffield) and had a weekend making glass beads with a gas torch.. I love crafts of every kind but can't paint to save my life. I haven't done a jigsaw in years but probably have some in a cupboard somewhere.

I'd really been wanting a jigsaw puzzle ------ I used to love occupying my brain with them. So my husband got me the most gorgeous jigsaw puzzle last year, 1000 pieces and it was huge 29x20". BUT. Not only didn't I have anywhere to work on it in a small house but the pieces were so teeny-tiny and all floral!!!! Sadly it sits in my closet collecting dust. I'll be careful what I ask for next time!
@Fairydell I haven't seen you on here for awhile; how are you doing? I hope you have a great weekend!

I'm good although I kind of overdid it yesterday so I have a pain or two in both (!) hips. I've grounded myself to the couch with ice and elevating today. :boohoo:I've noticed there's a lot of new recovery threads over the weekend and haven't managed to get through all of them yet. It does keep us busy! I was thinking of you and hope that you're finally getting some sleep and the leg sensitivity is getting better. I love your flower crafts too, very pretty! @Fairydell

Here y'go then!

It would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are

1. what approach did you have for your surgery? Anterior, posterior, lateral? You can look here to see the various types THR approaches or incisions

2. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine. And don't forget to factor in other forms of pain such as soreness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, aching, swelling and stiffness).

3. what pain medications have you been prescribed, how much are you taking (in mg please) and how often?

4. are you icing your painful area at all? If so, how often and for how long?

5. are you elevating your leg. If so how often and for how long?

6. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

7. are you doing any exercises at home? If so what and how often?
This is the most crucial question so please help me by using the format I have left as an example
(which means please make a list and not an essay!)

Exercises done at home
- how many sessions you do each day
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

Anything done at PT
- how many times a week
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

@Fairydell
Those flowers are perfection. I hope you enjoyed a nice Easter and are doing well.
I will look forward to Josephine's advice once you respond to the questions she left above.
A great Tuesday evening to you!

Wondering if either you or @SE Florida have used / considered a folding card table for puzzles. They also sell felt in different dimensions that you can assemble puzzles on. Once finished for the day you roll the whole shebang up and the pieces stay in place until next time. Both options afford you the pleasure without monopolizing real estate on the kitchen or dining room table. I bought one (felt and puzzle) for my mom during her hip recovery. She never used it and lost it she said  :heehee:

I've seen those @Layla , very cool that you can roll them up and that would sure help! Funny your Mom "lost" hers........ummm yeah, sounds like something my Mom would say! :loll:

You get an A plus for creativity @Fairydell Great way to keep entertained when sleep isn’t happening. I hope you get answers soon about your leg. Very frustrating to live with I am sure. Hugs from Virginia. ❤️

@Josephine

1. Posterior

2. 1 in my hip .. but 4 from my knee to my ankle... this rises to 8/9 through the night

3. nefopam 30mg 1 or 2 tablets three times a day for breakthrough pain... I no longer take them...
Codeine Phosphate 30mg.... I only take these if my hip is bad... I haven't needed them for a while
Paracetamol.. 500mg... I take two tablets three times a day

4. Ice is my best friend. I ice six or seven times a day for anything between 5minutes and 40 minutes. I ice my lower leg and my hip

5. I elevate a couple of times a day for about an hour at a time

6. I make a cup of tea, prepare veggies, cook pasta. Wash the dishes by hand and a bit of light dusting. I make the bed and straighten cushions/throws.

7. Standing leg raises to the front, side and back... 5 repeats two or three times a day. I was given bridge exercise but it hurts my back and hip so haven't done them recently... I don't do the bed exercises... slides etc

My concern is the burning pain from knee to ankle. It's excruciating and the cause of my sleepless nights. My leg buckles and I can't lift my foot of the floor. I can raise/wiggle my toes and raise my heels but not lift the foot. Does this make sense? My house and garden are split level so I am walking up/down stairs many times each day

How are my fellow hipsters this evening? I have had some truly dreadful nights but the daytimes are not too bad. My hip isn't the concern though it is my damaged leg. I feel as though someone is blowtorching it all night long. Today was my first day home alone as Tony went back to work. I found it very restful as I was able to just relax and sleep whenever I needed to. I've just had a shower and then Tony massaged my poorly leg. I feel very much better tonight but I remember saying that once before so I am not expecting it to continue. I hope you are all continuing to improve..... I repeat our mantra... this pain is temporary it will get better.

And it will @Fairydell , keep the faith and don't give up! I'm hoping Josephine might have some insight that will help you. And if you haven't devoured it yet, there's always that chocolate bar. Or maybe Tony can you get you some more please!

A very large chocolate egg.. Lindor... my favourite.

My son left his Easter basket in here... and it appears that someone ate some of the peanut butter cups!!! [emoji6]

Sending some chocolate vibes your way!
