THR Fairydell's recovery thread

Fairydell, I just read the last 5 days or so of your thread. I so hope things are better for you this week. I'm only on day 4 now, and Im starting to get bummed. This is going to be a bit of a stretch. Sleep comes in fits. I haven't tried to go upstairs yet to bed, but have been in the recliner. Want to try it tonight though. Hoping things look better soon!

Hi @Chappyd I was kind of ok for the first week but this past one has been flippin awful. I haven't slept properly in a very long time and all I want is sleep. My hip isn't the cause of the discomfort now its the flipping scalding hot ants tap dancing on my shin. I feel as though my kneecap has been blow torched... Hopefully you won't feel any of these symptoms and will sail though an easy recovery.. fingers crossed for you.

I had a terrifying moment this morning. One minute I was upright and the next I was sprawled on the floor. My leg had given out spectacularly.... and I was home alone. Thank goodness we are split level here or I just would not have been able to get back upright. As it was I slid across the floor and dropped my legs over the step down. Once I had recovered myself I managed to get upright and across to the sofa. I am still shaking.. I don't think any damage has been done but it has frightened the life out of me.

@Fairydell - I thought sleep disruption was common given what’re we have been through. In the first few weeks I got tired during the day and often napped for a couple of hours in the afternoon but that meant I didn’t sleep much at night. As I was restless in bed my wife moved into a spare room for 6 weeks and we temporarily put a tv in our bedroom. TV, iPad and books kept me entertained when I couldn’t sleep. It all got much better after the TEDs were banished and the injections over.

Oh my goodness.... that must have been so scary...thank goodness you think no damage has been done... might be an idea to ring your doctor/physio to try & work out why your leg gave out. Were you on a stick or crutches?
Hope you are sitting comfortably now..x

Oh my stars:shocked:
I know how frightening that had to be.
I do hope you are okay.

It's against the rules to fall down, dear friend!
I'll let you by this time, but will have no more of it!:nah:
I'm hoping the "ants" will soon tire and things start easing soon.
Do call your OS if you feel you need to be checked out..
Healing hugs @Fairydell

Good morning, @Fairydell I do hope today is a good day for you. I wanted to ask if you have swelling in the leg and shin area where the ants are dancing? One thing which has been helpful to me is my husband massaging (lightly'ish) my foot and leg, gently pushing the swelling up toward the knee.

I really did think the PT had taken leave of her senses when she suggested it, then showed me. I was quite afraid of that causing more pain. But even though it is the "good kind of painful", it seems to have helped. I don't know if you are perhaps just too painful to be touched. I offer this as a possibility because I do hate you are so tortured by these tap dancing ants.

i hope you have a blessed day, fairydell.

I am so sorry about your fall and lack of sleep. I agree with Sarah, gentle massage, upward strokes really help with swelling and stiffness pain. Ditto, solo sleeping. My husband was thrilled to leave my crazy night stirrings. I wish I could leave me too, at least to get some sleep. Flaxseed has been my miracle ingredient. Hope things turn the corner this week. I think the second week, was the hardest. Third, started to turn the corner. Hope you find that too. Hang in there. ❤️

@SarahBee We tried the massage you describe yesterday morning and again last night. My neighbour must have thought I was being murdered brutally. It was horrible and painful but strangely almost soothing

@Hoppy Nanny The surgeon damaged a nerve in my leg and other than scalding hot, tap dancing ants wielding a blow torch, my leg has no feeling. I keep hoping against hope that the ants feeling is the nerve repairing. I will be seeing the physio tonight when I get my stitches out. I have so many questions to ask her

How true, how true! It really has taken a couple of days but I think it has given me some relief in my shin splint muscle. :)

That fall must have absolutely terrifying. I honestly don't know what I would have done in your position. Did they say how long this nerve damage will take to repair itself? I sure hope it's soon!! I'm thinking you should wear your leg brace all the time, especially if you are home alone to hopefully prevent another fall. I also wonder if you ever looked into the magnesium. If it helps with muscle spasms, etc., maybe it will help with those horrible ants, etc. Do the hot ants feel anything like it does if your foot falls asleep and then when you move it gets those horrible little zapping pains. It has just occurred to me that if it is similar it could be related to circulation.

Hello
Reading about you're experience is frightening.
I'm so sorry and especially that you were alone.
I think the brace may be a good idea also, and will hopefully keep your leg from buckling again.
Please carry your cell phone around with you when you're alone until you know you can trust your leg.
Thankfully all is well, it could have ended much worse.
We may have to sail across the pond to take care of you, dear Fairydell. :capn:
Let us know how your Physio visit goes.
@Fairydell

The magnesium might be with a shot, I've had issues with hands, feet, and legs feeling like they fell asleep and usually resort to magnesium. I also have to take potassium daily as I seem to always run low on it! Hope you've been able to rest some today, that had to scare the bejeebers out of you.

Evening hipsters.... I had a good session with physio... gentle exercises and sensible about repetitions. She said if it hurts then don't push it at this stage. My stitches had all dissolved and I have a mahoosively long scar. I think he was practicing filleting and got carried away. The scar is nice and clean though so he did a good job on it. The surgeon knew nothing about my damaged leg until the physio lady rang him while I was at the hospital. I have an appointment to see him next week.

I am being tortured. I can't stand anything touching my hypersensitive leg and yet everything wants to touch it tonight.. the sheet, duvet, pillowcase everything and anything. Tony was sleeping in the spare room and I had our bed all to myself... except it is so tickly and irritating. I have decamped downstairs to the sofa where I set up a little nest of soft blankets that can't touch my skin. Tony heard me get up and to show a little support he is now on the other sofa. He means well but it does mean of course that I can't watch you tube videos. He may get sick of my wandering about groaning and moaning
