Banged my new knee on a wooden bus seat this past weekend, Mr. Kneely is mad again. Getting to bed earlier tonight will hopefully be helpful.

Just read through your thread. You asked about TSA screening and joint replacement. I have 2 hips and now a new knee. I travel and have become a pro with TSA. The full body scanner is my friend. If it is available,I just ask to use it since I have joint replacements. Easy breezy. Walk in, hands up and walk out.

New symptoms this week. Knee pain and stiffness an now my knee is feeling weak and warn to the touch!!

@Celle
I banged my knee into a wood seat on a trolley tour bus in Asheville a few weeks ago. It has been worse. I am getting Cortisone in my hip to help with my bursitis and IT band issue. I will tell my doc about my pain and stiff née. Do you think my problems are scar tissue related? Thanks to all you experts!!!

Thanks, @Timetolive. I have not seen the OS since surgery. I see his PA. Scheduled for a cortisone shot for hip bursitis on Wed (1 year TKR anniversary).

I will make sure he takes X-rays and tells me where we go from here with my banged up knee. The IT band is still an issue. I stopped PT because things were better with IT band.

Off of the Meloxicam and ibuprophin due to results of blood work from week of Thanksgiving. NSAIDS are not being very nice to the kidneys.

My wish for all the Bonesmart nation is to have a great holiday season. Be safe!

My kidneys took a beating from Meloxicam, too. I advise friends and family to avoid NSAIDs of any type. I hope you get reassuring news about your banged knee.

I am not able take NSAIDS in any shape or form and I can't say that has impeded my progress in any way. I think they're both dangerous and over-prescribed.

X-rays of new knee appear to be fine. Cortisone shot in hip for bursitis issue. Thought the leg knee and foot had fallen asleep as I was trying to get out between the car door and inside garage. Felt like my knee was giving out and buckled but I took it easy and will stay off my feet for at least a day. Dr Google said the leg, foot, and knee numbness was from the lidocaine injection prior to cortisone injection. Pretty weird but it went away in a few hours.

Hoping you all are having improvement each day and have a happy safe holiday!

Knee still stiff and sore these days. Hip bursitis is better as a result of the cortisone injection. Walked on the treadmill last night just long enough to where I would normally get the hip pain. My hubby bought me a reflective vest and head lamp for dog walking. The dog and I are in need of some regular exercise. The stationary bike and short walks in the hallways at work are my usual ways of getting exercise. The dog enjoys getting out of the house.

The PA says he wants to see me in 6 months unless I am still having issues
In 6 weeks.

Hubby spoke to the Doctor after my surgery. he said all went well. He put in the MAC-Daddy John Deere Knee. My other hardware was loose and moving about. The new one can't move. It recesses into the bone and the bone will grow around it to keep it secure. The moving of the knee is what was hurting and he said she had small bones. Not that they are weak but just small. Waiting now to see what's next.

I'm glad your revision is done, @AThom10731

Here is some reading for you - the BoneSmart recovery reading list:
First are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist (PT) - to do it to you. Exercise only gently
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!
- be active as much as you need to be but not more than is necessary, meaning so much that you end up being in pain, exhausted or desperate to sit down or lie down!

While I had a different knee prosthesis used for my revision I also had the type where bone grows into it and it is very strong. I followed the Bonesmart mantras and allowed time for my knee to heal.

Surgeon went in to replace loose hardware on Sat, 10/29. Tapped the prosthesis and it crumbled to bits. The complete replacement all done and finally getting an opportunity to post an update. The choices for post-op rehab were a bit dodgy so no in-patient rehab at skilled nursing facility for this old gal. I left the hospital 4 days after my surgery and hubby has been my nurse. In home PT for a few weeks and then I see my doctor. PT is painful and according to my physical therapist I am doing well with my progress.

Twenty months of pain was no fun at all.

Ann
