Read your thread. Great on the 6 months check up. But not good news on the hip. Hate that ya still in pain. Pt does help. If there gentle. I tell ya it's been a big long loopy roller Coster for me. I had the partial in dec then revision in March. And it's been scary. Not one but a few times have I questioned why.

But then I started reding threads and it gave me a lot of hope. Especially the admin and nurse of the sight. Here lately I have been so depressed. But thanks for the encouragement of a bike. Makes me fill better. Xxxx hope your doing well. And again great news on check up!!
Hang in there. Hope the pt will help u.

IT band Massage was pretty strange but I will give it a go...exercises are making my back very angry. What say you out there?

It's 6 months since your knee replacement. Most people have stopped doing exercises before then.
You get plenty of exercise just going about your daily life and it's not necessary to keep on doing knee exercises.
I say stop the exercises.

I see that your hip has been giving you trouble from the beginning. I know your surgeon suggested exercises for the bursitis, but you've had it for so long and those exercises don't seem to be helping. They're hurting your back, too. Maybe he could suggest something else, such as a cortisone injection, for the bursitis?

Are you icing the site where you feel pain? That can help, too.

I had my first PT session for the bursitis issue this past Wed. OS says working on my IT band will help. The cortisone she I got in May did not resolve issue.

The at home exercises from my physical therapist are waking up some of my muscles and tendons and parts! Back is better thanks. I approached the exercises wide open vs easing into them. How are you?

Session 1 and 2 of PT for IT band issue left me in pain. Mom used my shoulder as a cane to walk from a wedding to my car. The knee and the bursitis are angry now. Ultrasound and massage at PT were helpful.

Knee has been stiff and sore since I helped my mom from a wedding to my car. She was not walking very steady so she used my good side for walking can/crutch. The PT for my bursitis/IT band issues seem to be helpful. Ultrasound an dexter isles are helping. Tonight I am trying a iontophoresis for my hip bursitis. It should be targeting the inflammation. Cheers!

This forum has so many nice people on it! Thanks for sharing and for the encouragement. This week has been challenging. Spending my non working hours trying to get over a nasty cold, cough and sore throat. The snotty kisses I got from my niece's 8 month old precious little red haired blue eyed baby boy were so worth the cold miseries.

Posting an update. Been consistent with PT for my hip bursitis. Had good comments on my progress. Hopefully working on the IT band will fix this. I am certainly getting stronger. Just for giggles I asked for my ROM measurements. Below are my results:

Went from +8 on March 25, 2015 to a +3 Aug 12, 2015

Went from 116 March 25, 2015 to a 124 Aug 12, 2015.

Still unable to walk very far without having the stabbing hip pain so I ride my stationary bike. At least I am not getting worse.

The posts on this site have provided encouragement and have helped keep me going in the right direction.

Survived another business trip. I dreaded the thought of walking through airports but experienced only minor discomfort with the hip bursitis issue! The IT ban exercises and PT treatments are giving my life back!!

So PT all done for my hip bursitis and IT band issue. Rushed into a college football game this past weekend with no issues. I did not think about my walking and walked pretty steady pace and was very pleased. Unfortunately the walk back from the game was not fun. My hip was angry.

Taking it easy until today. I got brave enough to walk our wild dog. She pulled me all over the cul-de-sac. No problems with the hip and knee other than the usual knee ache. It's been almost 9 months since surgery!

Nine month checkup was pleasant today. Doctor says to continue with the short walks to avoid the hip bursitis from flaring back up. Thanks to the PT staff my IT band is all stretched out. The soreness and stiffness in the knee will get better just need to keep up with my stretching and take a break and get up from my desk more often and continue with walking and stationary bike. He seemed to be pleased with my ROM and strength.

Hoping all you other TKR survivors will be on track soon with more strength, more pain free days and better nights of sleep.
