Revision TKR Third TKR Replacement needed

Well, jolly good! Don't forget to read the recovery threads a couple of posts back!

PT is painful and according to my physical therapist I am doing well with my progress.
PT should not be painful. Remember this from the mantras:
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist (PT) - to do it to you. Exercise only gently
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again

Causing pain during PT can set back your recovery. It won't help your knee to recover better. What it will do is upset and inflame your wounded tissues, making them angry and more likely to swell further. You don't want to do that.

Remember that it's your knee and you have the right to say what will happen to it. So say NO to any painful therapy.
Saying no to therapy - am I allowed to?

@Celle @Josephine thank you. I will work on the signature and painful PT. The previous feedback will be very helpful.

Had a discussion with the Physical Therapist regarding the painful PT session on Monday. She agreed and won't be pushing me to the point where the exercises are causing pain. Thanks for the great advice ladies.

Three weeks down. Continue to have in home PT 3 times a week. Sleeping not usually a problem. I have been walking around with a cane and up and down stairs. Hubby went back to work on Tuesday. Walked down the end of my street, yesterday with aid of Physical Therapist.

My pain level and healing is much better than the last TKR.

I found with my revision I felt much better than after my original TKR too. I guess, at least in my case, that since my knee was finally done correctly I was feeling better every day.

I refer to it as "lack-o-sleepitis".

So true!! I did not sleep well for the first 2 1/2 months after surgery. After that it gradually started getting better. Now at 4 months I am finally sleeping well at night.

It's definitely something they don't tell you about ahead of time.

@chsed

Ambien has been my friend but getting off all meds is my goal after my knee is much better. Weaning myself off the Ambien will be a challenge. Glad you are finally sleeping well.

Give yourself a little time and then you can try benadryl to help with sleep. That's the PM part of Tylenol PM.

Revision was end of Oct 2016. Almost at the one year mark. Not feeling much better. Still very stiff and sore as I was for the entire 2 years between my two replacements. I pretty much gave up on the medical professionals. I took an early retirement and decided to log back into the forum. Any advice?

@AThom10731 so sorry to hear about your knee troubles! I am 1 week shy of 4 months right knee revision and I too still suffer from soreness and stiffness. My ROM is not great which makes it still so tough walking. Don't even mention stairs!!!

I worry every day if I'm progresssing like I should so I understand your frustration. I contemplated not returning to work but I couldn't financially stop working.

Like you, I had my revision a year and a half after the original replacement and I also had a MUA and a lysis of adhesions too in between the replacements- ugh!

Are you still in therapy or exercising? This may be restricting your progress by keeping your knee inflamed.

I'm praying that you get answers soon- try not to get discouraged! I know that's easier said than done!

Thanks! No therapy. I ride my stationary bike and walk but not going to PT. I should go walk in the pool or get on a regular exercise routine.

You hang in there and thanks again for the reply!

@AThom10731 What are your main issues with your revision? At 4 months I still have pain when walking and limited ROM that affects my day.

Are you still in pain or is the knee stiff and/or swollen? I'm just praying that it gets better for me!

I have flown once since my TKR and I just told TSA agent I had metal in my knee so they used a hand scanner and let me pass. And then there was the time I went to a major league baseball game in Seattle and forgot about it before walking thru the scanner. The bells and whistles went off and scared me silly. It was then I remembered about my metal knee.

All,
Just a little over my one year anniversary of my right total knee replacement revision I decided to return to orthopedic doctor and give him an update on my pain, disappointment and lack of progress. He sent me for another bone scan. Scan results reflected another set of loose hardware components. Here we go again!!! I have had 3 surgeries on this darn knee and FIL now needs more attention due to dementia diagnosis. Hubby is very unhappy about this TKR failure.

@AThom10731 what did the surgeon say of why this is loose again? I had a revision and I at 6 months, I, too, am worried about my implant being loose again. My pain and stiffness has not gotten better. In fact, my ROM has decreased.

Just wondering what explanation the doctor is giving you.
