Revision TKR Third TKR Replacement needed

@AThom10731 - did the same surgeon do both of your knee replacements?
If so, please don't let him do a third one. He's already had two tries and not got it right.

Instead, look for a surgeon who specializes in problem knees and knee revisions. You'll need one who has no connection, either professional or social, with your current surgeon, so that he can look at your knee without being influenced by your current surgeon's opinions.

@Celle yes the same surgeon did both initial and first revision. His brother is currently in charge of my care/recovery. I am looking for a revision specialist, a second opinion and someone with fresh new ideas in knee replacement revisions.

He says we don’t know how this happened unless there was an injury. The first time I guess the implant was probably not the best choice for me because of my weight.

Quite often @Jamie can help find second opinions. Are you comfortable telling her where you’re located in NC? Your location will help her find someone in your area.

I must say I'm not too impressed with your surgeons assessment of what may have caused a loosening of your implant. But, that's all the more reason you really must see someone to put completely new eyes on your knee! If you'll give me your zip code or city (and tag me please so I see it soon!), I'll see if I can find some surgeons for you to talk with.

I'm glad you're investigating another surgeon.

@Jamie I booked an appointment for a second opinion with my former surgeon’s colleague. Were you able to find a revision OS in my area with high success rate?

My suggestions for Winston-Salem would be:

I didn't ask the name of your current surgeon, but this doctor may be associated with him or may be your first surgeon. I didn't see a lot of options in Winson-Salem. Normally it's not a good idea to select a revision specialist with any association at all with your first surgeon. It's more difficult to get an independent view when they talk (and they will talk).

If you could travel a bit, here's a surgeon in Greensboro:
Dr. Matthew Olin

And one in Ashville:
Dr. Jason Lang

Also one in Hendersonville:

@AThom10731 I’m so sorry you’re having to go through another possible revision, and also worried that I have the same surgeon. He’s very highly recommend in this area. I hope you’re able to find another physician and they are able to get you a revision if that’s what you need. Keep us informed. Best of luck to you.

Yes we do have the same OS, @jboles. Small world. My hubby is sheriff’s deputy in your county. Your doc was highly recommended and I have no complaints. Hope you are doing well with your new knee!!!

I agree with @Jamie , I’m not happy with his "I don’t know what happened" response. I sure hope I don’t have issues come up! I hope the new OS can find the problem and provide a solution. It really is a small world!

Jamie, Celle and Josephine -can you help me gen up a list of questions to ask the two surgeons when I meet to discuss yet another revision? Thanks in advance.

Fresh new ideas are unnecessary. You just need someone who knows what he is doing!

Tush! What nonsense! These devices loosen because they haven't been set into the cement properly. It's no mystery.
The first time I guess the implant was probably not the best choice for me because of my weight.
Also nonsense because I've known heaps of people have TKRs with a BMI or 40 or more - me for one! And they never had any issues with loosening.

You should read this to learn more Cemented and uncemented hips
Never mind that it's nominally about hips - it's more about the correct use of the bone cement!

@AThom10731 it's unnecessary to quote a post just to reply to it.

Just scoot on down to the bottom of the page and start typing! Unless there is some specific phrase you want to address, of course - like I just did! Then do it like this How to quote a post.

Thanks for understanding! :)

@Josephine I scoot down and type in the box and click on reply when I post this one. Hope it worked. Thanks for your response.

@Jamie, two of the revision surgeons you recommend are too far from my home and John S Shields, M.D. is in the same practice as my OS. Is there another recommended OS in the Winston-Salem area for revision procedure? Thank you.
