Lol on the treadmill @SaraK I did do all the sideways, backwards etc...but I talk a lot with my hands walking sideways I was yapping at the APT joking etc..... I didn't fall but he had to grab me as I started to go upright but almost off the treadmill
Is it bad of me if I'm glad I'm not the only one @MyAussieGirl ? It's just ironic that I fall on the treadmill after all the one legged balancing while standing on a board with a rounded bottom or throwing a ball, etc. I have always told my PT I was a klutz with no sense of balance. I gave him quite a scare and I think he believes me now!
No trust me I love knowing I'm not alone I didn't like that board on the ball gig at first more cause it was scary but I ended up liking it... I loved PT too.... I miss it as it gave me structure
Must be the week for unexpected stumbles and trips @SaraK. I decided to take toilet chair back to the basement last night, carried down the stairs fine, hit it into wall at bottom of stairs and tripped forward. Muscles were not happy with that sudden jolt! No damage (and no one to see me!) just a good reminder to continue to be careful.
Glad you are having success finishing pt and continuing with trainer. I am not doing outpatient pt but am playing around with idea of trying trainer after 3 month mark to help with overall fitness.
Good Morning, Sara
Thanks for the update. It sounds as though your recovery is going great.
Think of all the changes you've experienced and how far you've come in less than a year. It's amazing!
The treadmill mishap...Funny, but I'll bet scary! A little George Jetson-ish of you
It's good to hear the muscle tear didn't set you back too far. That was a little scary also.
Just think of the fun you'll have this Summer. Compared to last Summer.....Heaven!
I asked PT this morning whether he trusted me on the treadmill. When he said yes, I asked if I should try the Swan dive or a back flip today.
Luckily, no mishap. As next to last session, he did various measurements of strength and range of motion. Op/injured leg was actually stronger than other legs on certain movements. ROM was MUCH better than after the tear and better than when I finished PT last time in January. Still a bit more to get to same point as other leg but, as I told him - I'd love to increase range of motion (and should be able to) but could live with it if I was told this was the best it was going to get.
I even got a new list of do's and don'ts for the trainer for Saturday. So I can keep him under relative control at least for this session. I didn't tell him the full extents of the do's, though, because I know he'll try to push the boundaries/break the rules just a bit. Now why does that sound familiar?
Hey @SaraK, go easy on that treadmill girl, don't want you injuring yourself!
Back flips off the treadmill's probably nowhere in your list of permitted manoeuvres or exercises.
Glad you didn't suffer any lasting damage and it doesn't seem to have knocked your confidence- or sense of humour!
Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on the graduation from PT! Wise to hold the cards close to your chest with the trainer!
Must save self for Dancing Queen! I miss your song posts.
I'm hip, hip happy that today is my one-year hippiversary for my first hip! What a year it's been for me. I've got 2 new hips and a new attitude! I'm sure most of you would be surprised (not!) to find out that I love to dance. I only rediscovered (after more than 2 decades) that love after my first surgery. When the second hip reared its bone spur laden head and began to interfere, it had to go.
In addition to dancing, I joined a gym after the first surgery and got in much better shape. When I knew the second surgery was coming, one of the things I worked on the most was piriformis stretches to increase my range of motion in both hips. One picture shows the one-year old left hip on Saturday (I could do this on both sides beginning about 6 1/2 months or 7 months after the first surgery - so just before the second surgery) and the other shows the 4+ months old right hip on Saturday (not quite the same range of motion, but getting closer).
I think I'll go out and dance tomorrow to celebrate! Let's face it, I now have an April-December romance with my new hips!
Adding more activities to the repertoire. The weather was gorgeous here yesterday so I went out kayaking with a group of friends. I was a little nervous about getting in and out and sitting so low and in one position for a couple of hours, but no problems at all. worththesunburn
Hey @SaraK !
Just catching up on threads and see your awesome stretches and the kayak pic.
So jealous!
I know it was lots of hard work for you to get where you are today and
I'm so pleased for you!
Out living life!
@SaraK that looks like so much fun! I'm hoping to do that with my daughter over the summer. We finally had good weather too and I was out in the yard this weekend (doing the cleanup I couldn't do last fall) - feeling a little sore today, but it's that "good" sore from using muscles that haven't been used in awhile.
@BeBe - give yourself some time and you'll be out living la vida loca as well! I was lucky to not have as serious of limitations as long with either hip and to get through the biggest part of recovery with the first before the second started talking to me. Patience and perseverance!
Definitely give it a try @jaydub63 - I had a lot of fun! My 17 YO was jealous (he hadn't realized they had kayak rentals as the County park I went to. Now we're talking about going out together (anything that gets my son wanting to go somewhere with me can't be all bad) and also about going kayaking and hiking on vacation next month.
