THR Sarak - There's Life After a Hip Replacement

:yahoo:look at SaraK go.
Looks beautiful and lots of fun...:) :-) (:

@SaraK I have kayaked a few times and really like it, but it was uncomfortable the last time I did it a couple of summers ago. I'm thinking it will feel much better this year. I'd like to try paddle boarding again too. I tried it once but my bad hip made it really hard to stand up on the board again after falling off (which I did ALOT lol!). I'll need to wait for the water to warm up a bit too. Luckily we have a nice river in town and a livery that does rentals. I might be able to bribe my 19 yo daughter to spend some time with me on the water if I pay for her rental!:kayak:

Oh Sara I am so jealous! The only way I could get in that pose on the floor is if someone put me in it in an unconscious state! WooHoo! You rock girl!

@Bumblebee - keep in mind it doesn't mean I have full range of motion on the new side. Bringing the knee towards the chest is still painful and it doesn't go all of the way and the external rotation still isn't quite there (all the things my body is hiding) but I'm happy for the progress. And when I get this set of movements down, I need to start working on the calves and hamstrings. I'd eventually like to be able to touch my toes (may have to lose a bit of weight for that, though).

Aahhh, but you have such determination! :loveshwr: I'm still jealous! :) I have my cane next to me when I get on the floor just for help to get up.

@SaraK aack! I miss your hippiversary. :(. Happy one year! I am so excited for you and you are an inspiration for how much you’re able to do and how much you’re doing. You are rocking those new hips!

Thanks @hipster333 - easy to do - even I'm focused more on the second one. I think the first feels a bit like the kid who feels ignored now that the new baby is here. It didn't even get a one year visit with the surgeon - just tagging along at the new hip's appointments. Luckily it's not throwing any temper tantrums as a result!

Hi @jaydub63, I was wondering who your surgeon is as you had mentioned in a different thread that he said you could eventually go back to jogging if you wished.
Thanks

Second child- no second hip syndrome! Who'd have thought it?
Also interested why your surgeon said no jogging.- mine said no long distance running, that is no marathons- like I'd do that anyway???!!!! 10k would be achievable and possibly the odd half marathon if I trained for it.
Like anyone would do 13 and a bit miles without training!!!!

@gillycat - the jogging question was aimed at Jaydub63. I've never asked my surgeon about running. Maybe I will at some point but never was a runner. I only run if something is chasing me! I also have no desire to skydive or bungee jump which I've also heard as big no-nos.

@gillycat11 I answered running question over on my own recovery thread so as not to derail Sara's thread.

Whoops, sorry @SaraK, didn't mean to derail your thread.:snork:
Don't think I'll ever learn- the apps not as user friendly as the full site- trying to type in a small text box, without being able to see the other posts!
I've also heard the sky dive and bungee thing too! I also have no desire to fall from great heights and rely on either stretchy string or a big cloth to stop me going splat! :heehee:

No problem at all @gillycat11 - probably a question many have and one more area OS differ (and I may need to ask now on general principle). Plus, my thread seems too boring sometimes and needs a little derailing!

I agree - I didn't like prior app or current one. Going into website through browser on my phone just seems easier to use and has more info available.

I am liking, though, that they got the email function working again. I have it set it email me for a reply to my thread or a PM To me. Wasn't working for the longest time but has been the last few days.

Have a great evening - are you off work today or off for the day?

@SaraK, off work today. We've actually had sunshine so I went to the coast and walked on the beach with the dog. It was lovely! We even went scrambling over the rocks.I tried looking in rock pools- not easy with the dog racing through them and stirring up the sand! :loll:

@gillycat11 Sounds heavenly (including the dog frolicking)! Not that I know my UK geography (but have been known to pull up a map occasionally), where are you in the UK?

How are you, friend SaraK?
Is your hind end better?
I'm having a small Friday decompression break down after which all shall be well...:dubious:

Yep @Mojo333 - I'm back to being a pain in the rear rather than having one! I have a session with my trainer tomorrow and he asked about limits. I told him that, as long as the hip flexor didn't get inflamed, I was feeling better than I had in a long, long time so the main limit was not to mess that up! :loll:(and to not make my arm too sore to hoist a Margarita or two tomorrow).:rotfl: .Cinco De Mayo was my incentive this time last year to get rid of my nighttime dose of the narcotics. PT named the day Cinco De Drinko for me and his assistant that had a wedding bash that was supposed to go on all weekend.

Today is Cinco de Cuatro (a LA Corona X cuatro) for me.
Dad is home via DH - aka taxi service, and I am more exhausted than a double hippy in a behind kicking contest!
Actually kind of accurately describes my day.
And now I feel like I'm sitting on a golf ball and that hasn't been that way in 6 months so still can overdo this far out.:sorry:

@Mojo333 - I recommend a long hot soak while sufficiently hydrating with the cool BEvERage of your choice, followed by a relaxing weekend - maybe some fishing? Maybe sitting on a tennis ball would help you get rid of the golf ball. I'm glad your dad is home. I hope they got things sorted out!
