THR Sarak - There's Life After a Hip Replacement

@MammaT - I'm I reading too much in when you say "don't overdo too much" instead of just "don't overdo"? :heehee: yep, still the problem child!

I love dancing! DH and I have taken 5 levels of ballroom dance lessons. Haven't danced since my son got married 9 mo. ago - my OA pain took over my life 3 mo. later.

@NanaMama - I would love to learn ballroom dancing! My ex didn't dance so I hadn't been dancing in eons until last summer. I joined a group that goes out and dances to oldies, rock and even disco. At first the motivation was having fun while I continued rehabbing after first THR. I was having so much fun, though, that when the problems started with second hip and it was interfering with dancing, it had to go! I'm starting swing dance lessons now and thinking about ballroom dancing in the future. Once you are far enough along in recovery, do find an opportunity to go out and dance. Getting back those simple acts of joy in living is what this is all about!

But @Mojo333 - I'm not running (and have no plan to do so in the near or distant future). Where's the "innocent eyes batting lashes" emoji?

They purposely erased them...
I have all confidence in you -problem child, but my dumb dog has been all the problem child I could handle today.
You are in time out:no-fin:

@SaraK - I went through a horrific divorce (after 29 year marriage... we had 25 decent years, just not all in a row - cycle of bad behaviors (all his), and never the same one). After the divorce, I sat down and made a list of qualities of any man I'd date (should I ever decide to)
  • Christian
  • Social Drinker
  • No 12 step programs
  • No salesmen
  • Non Smoker
  • Must like to dance or be willing to take ballroom dance lessons
There might have been a few others in there... but it's been a dozen years ... DH filled the bill. (And it's not that I have anything against 12 step programs... but my 'ex' spent far more time at his meetings than he ever did with me). DH's comment when we had this conversation before we started starting..... "So where do we take ballroom dance lessons?"
"Love is beautiful the second time around..." :flwrysmile:

I'm so happy to hear dancing will be in my future again!

@NanaMama - I'm going to steal your list. Horrific divorce after 29 year marriage (at least 10 years more than it should have been), plenty of bad behavior (all his but adding new ones, not getting rid of the old. I wish he'd spent his time at meetings - spent more time in bars than I did at work - and I'm a workaholic! Definitely will have willingness to dance (not have to be ballroom) on my list!

I'm glad you were so lucky to find someone wonderful the second time around!

@SaraK ... Best part of DH - I first knew him 16 years ago as a single dad (with a young daughter, now 23) from church. We both sang on worship team, were in the same small group (led by my 'ex'):groan:and long before the 'last straw' of my first marriage... I was playing matchmaker, trying to find him a nice Christian woman. (Probably would have too, but a lot of women were hesitant about the daughter). As the dust settled after my divorce, it became apparent that God had a sense of humor.... We'll be married 12 years next month.

Thanks @MyAussieGirl - still some healing to do but feeling much more upbeat with things improving. Just got back from swing dance lessons so, yes, getting some dancing in! :happyfeet:

How are you doing? What's up lately?

I'll be back later I am OK though from time to time sore....Wait till you're much better for more dancing doll but you'll get bit back

@SaraK

@MyAussieGirl - I went dancing Fri with PT's approval. He ok'd tonight, too. No dancing this weekend, though - driving to KC to see my mom.

@MyAussieGirl - what's your definition of overdoing it dancing? I'm guessing I go past it on a regular basis! :rofsign:

I danced every song of first 2 sets Friday night - over 10,000 steps on Fitbit and over 100 "active minutes" . I felt fine that night and next day, though. PT, OS and cardiologist all agree it's good cardio exercise.

Oh @SaraK, you are proof that overdoing it can be an individual measurement! Glad you are doing well getting back to the things you love, that’s why we have this surgery. You have also shown you can listen to your body and pull back when needed, which is important for us all to do even though our levels may be different.

So-do you think you are going to like swing dance? It looks like fun.

Out living life. That's why we put ourselves through this.
You know your limitations. Rock on :happyfeet:
@SaraK

I do give overdoing it a new meaning, don't I? :rotfl:

So far swing dancing has been a lot of fun. I've done 5 lessons so far- 3 in the very basic and 2 in the "toddler" level. There's a dance afterwards and I try to stay for a little while but need to get home to make sure all on track with my son. I did dance with a few people last night and was able to follow (hard thing for me generally :heehee:) much better and had a couple of partners that were having me do steps far above those in my lessons. One guy that I'd danced with a few weeks ago commented on the improvement. Last night was a bigger test, though - my group wasn't going, so I was on my own. That's more scary for me than a lot of other things.

Tonight is my older son's birthda dinner - he turns 23 today. Where have the years gone?
