THR Sarak - There's Life After a Hip Replacement

Hope your pain is better today @SaraK
Happy Valentines Day :loveshwr:

@Layla - Happy Valentine's Day to you as well! :flwrysmile::flwrysmile::flwrysmile::flwrysmile::flwrysmile::flwrysmile:
. (We need an emoji for chocolate). Have a special night with hubby!

The psoas is feeling better today (that was the one I was more worried about) but the piriformis is tender (to be expected after the deep "massage" with the elbow) but better than last night. He said it might take some pain to get that one loosened - doing through deep massage, though rather than stretching which would be easier to overdo. Sitting on my ice pack now.

Home activities at this point are bridging, glute squeezes and heel presses and a few stretches for psoas.

PT said I could probably get back to cycle and treadmill this weekend. I did get approval for my swing dancing lesson last night, so that was fun. There's not a lot of pivoting at the very basic level I'm at now. Next week, I should be moving up and more pivoting at that level, but still not extreme so well see how I'm doing at that point. Trivia night this weekend instead of dancing.

Well @SaraK that's a real bummer. Hate that you are in so much discomfort and pain. Otherwise you are really impressive in your recovery. Swing dancing. . .Wow! Very impressive.

Hope there is some final diagnosis for your difficulties very soon so you can get on with things. Your PT sounds like a whole lot of help but the OS office would add the tests you may need. I am just wanting that pain to stop.

I've had that type of massage with the elbow and the wrist in Hawaii. . .there it is the Lomi Lomi massage. Feels great if you don't have any sore or tender spots and sounds like you have a few. Ice that one good!

Nice to catch up with you but do take care. You are an inspiration. And a Happy Valentine Day to you.
:loveshwr:

Happy Valentine's Day @zinnia. Pain isn't too bad - more annoying than anything. The range of motion limits don't affect a lot but are more troubling. I had thought the two issues were connected and might end up being unrelated. I have OS appt in a couple of weeks and I thought getting more info before appt could either get rid of the question or make it clearer what the next steps would be.

@SaraK I think I'm a luger...any sport you can do lying down and rely on gravity sounds good to me. Although the crashes are a bit concerning.

@Walkinginthesand - I have the body of figure skaters (if you keep that as plural - definitely at least a pairs team). I think I could do some damage to the ice landing some of those jumps.

@SaraK get would have yo smooth out the ice after all my jumps and landings :hehe: plus I want a costume with more coverage.

An article you might find interesting. While still several years before it could become an approved medication and released into the market, there is a possible new antibiotic that kills some of the resistant bacteria and is expected to be somewhat immune from bacteria becoming resistant.

On a personal note, looking forward to a quiet weekend sleeping in, with nothing on the agenda other than a hair cut, mani/pedi and a trivia night on Saturday. Yes, I do stop to recharge from time to time! Only a couple of PT sessions so far but between those and resting the last couple of weeks, most of the pain is gone. Now its a matter of being able to get the range of motion increased and seeing if stretching the psoas will allow me to activate the muscle without triggering pain. Piriformis "massage" is a pain in the tush, but that's necessary. Even PT asked me yesterday if there was any bruising!

Have a great weekend all!

Hi Sara,
Thanks for the update. Will check out the article.
Oooh, manI-pedi, fun. It's time for a pretty pink or coral pedi for me...Thinking Spring!
Great news on the decrease in pain...may it continue.
Hope your weekend is relaxing!
@SaraK

Glad your pain has improved @SaraK. I was worried about you especially after your exceptional start. Glad you are taking it easy this weekend. Trivia night sounds like fun.

@Layla - fingers will be somewhat conservative (red or wine colored) but toes don't show at work, so I haven't decided it they'll be hot pink, purple or orange this time. I know you don't like going to the salon for yours but I love going and sitting in the massage chair and getting massage - especially legs and feet.

@MammaT - I appreciate your concern but doing OK. PT doesn't think it's related to level or type of activity - rest is just to give full time for injury a few weeks ago to heal. The rest is figuring out why range of motion impaired (may also be related to the injury) and why psoas problematic. The two could be related or separate but the PT will help and will also give OS more info to decide next steps (if any other than PT). Glad to see your recovery going so well.

I like it too, Sara. Only did it once waaay before hip issues ever began.
I'm just afraid from the stories I've heard. It's totally a personal choice.
Plus I like doing my own pedi now simply because I CAN...again! A big thank you to THR.
Love colored pedis, color on fingernails too but resort to nudes most often on hands only because it wears longer.
I have white cabinetry in my home and it has proven to make marks on it :tantrum: and this too :tantrum2: because it frustrates me that much!
@SaraK

Have an easy weekend Sara...think of me while you ate unlaxing, and I'm making small talk with strangers at my Dads event.
Oh my stars, all this being charming really takes it out of you.
