THR Sarak - There's Life After a Hip Replacement

OMG! I just saw something on a strides management device and a body weight support device developed by Honda. They were talking about it possible use to help stroke victims but I immediately thought about how they could help hip replacement patient. Check them out and think about how they could help with gait training and for staging weight bearing, etc.

That is very interesting...especially helpful I should think to folks who have had many years of debilitation.
Will be interesting to see if insurance will pick up if it proves useful.
Looks expensive!
Look like a storm trooper mall walking with that on:heehee:

@Walkinginthesand - I saw my new hip as a way to start over and take control of my life and my health. It sounds like you're looking at it the same way. Your screenname is part of what started me down the path to surgery - we went on vacation at the beach but I could barely y make it to the beach and couldn't walk along it!

I am looking forward to “new”. I don’t want to be the one not going on the walk or anywhere because it hurts. I want to be involved again. I taught school for 30 years and “walked” my classroom all day. Want to get back closer to that.

I've gone from being a couch potato before my first THR (and, admittedly, before starting to have significant problems with my hip) to dancing most weekends and going to the gym several times a week. I started learning to swing dance a couple of weeks ago and just went on a 4.5 Mile hike last Sunday (although that and the workout and dancing the day before did land me in ODIC land (Over Did It Club) - it was worth it, though).

Gee, @Bumblebee I was just shooting for American Bandstand (is that even still a thing?).

:heehee:Is American Bandstand still a thing?
Um....No:unsure:

Darn @Mojo333 - there goes my last hope for eternal fame and glory! Guess I might as well stop dancing.

AB still a thing you ask?
Probably not on since:
you got married
had kids
raised your kids
watched them leave the nest
wore out your natural hip
met us
had your hip replaced :heehee:

@SaraK

Next you're going to tell me that Soul Train and Star Search are no longer on . . . And @Layla - there were a few years of crossover with my marriage, but not many. And still waiting to kick one out of the nest!

Don't be too anxious. I went through withdrawal when my youngest flew the coop.
I'd think about it and cry.....for a very long time. Not even kidding. It was an adjustment and 19 yrs later I think I still cook for four :heehee:
It's a milestone and you're suddenly thinking....Where did time just go? I WANT A DO OVER! :tantrum2:
@SaraK

No Soul Train....they've all kicked the bucket :dead: I think.
Some Star Search contestants are probably grand parents, or could be :heehee:
@SaraK

I joke about kicking him out, but I know I'll miss him. I had a hard time when my oldest gave up baseball and when the youngest decided to give up year round swimming - in both cases, I had been the parent driving them to meets/tournaments - often over a weekend - and missed the time together. At least the oldest never left town. Looking likely that the youngest will go to college in Florida (Florida State has one of the top programs in area he wants to go into and he'll get instate tuition since his dad lives in Fla). I'm sure I'll shed more than a few tears - hopefully not in front of them!

Look at the bright side. If youngest likes FL and stays, maybe you can finagle oldest to move
there and live out your retirement there :happyfeet: :swim: :surfer:

Restarting PT tomorrow. Range of motion hasn't gotten any better since 4 week point and still having issues with psoas. In fact, as physical activity increased, pain and range of motion got worse (someday I can barely put on socks).

I've cut back on activities over the last couple of weeks (with the exception of a short dancing outing Saturday - a girl's gotta have some fun) but psoas was spasming yesterday after I had to go up and down stairs a few times at a swim meet. Today it's painful to walk - not the same pain as before surgery but more like it feels when you've strained a muscle in the groin.

I guess that truly is the right analogy - the concern is that it could be a psoas impingement from acetabular cup or screw - worried essentially that the screw is sticking into the muscle/tendon or that it's rubbing on something. Doing some PT until next appt with surgeon on 3/1 to provide as much info as possible at that appointment.

Sure hope nothing serious. Groin pain off and on for me up to 4 months out, usually when I was extra active or sometimes just because.
Hope it is just stupid recovery stuff.
