I know you're doing the best you can. You've had to do so much more than most people. :console2:

Your quad will strengthen naturally as time goes by. While a bit of exercise will help, there's no need to rush.
I know you're probably really sick of being told to be patient, when you need to get going. But, if you can be patient now, it will really pay off later. Time and Nature will do their job of healing.

I have to do most everything that needs doing (although my kids are a wonderful help, there are things they cannot do). I do all the shopping and cooking, about 90% of the housework, its a full time job. In the meantime, I do sit when I can and elevate the knee. (I stop when I can)!
Okay but quite a lot for 13 weeks.

My comments in bold
At PT:
quad table to building up the quad and hamstring, 2lbs x10 reps, 3 sets - for a start, your quads are not weak, they have been injured. What they don't need now is 'building up'! I'd have your PT leaves these for at least another 6 weeks since you are experiencing all this pain.
lunge sort of but don't bend as far as a full lunge, ¼ squat x10 reps 3 sets - again, these are the very kinds of things that will cause the pain you've described
alternate days bike for 10 minutes instead - this is good but take it gently

at home: 3 sessions a day - at 12 weeks????
Squeeze a ball between knees x15 - depends how hard you squeeze but I don't think this kind of exercise is going to help with your pain
backwards leg swing x15, sideways swing x15, stand up on toes, hold 2-3 sec x10 times x3, ¼ squats x10 x3 - again, all of these are going in increase the pain you are experiencing.

What a surprise! I'm going to tell you that you're doing too much! Please reckon this - if you are doing all the daily chores and housework, then you really don't need any more exercising. That comes under the title of the ODIC! Yes? And with overdoing it comes - pain! The only way you can get this to settle down is to cut down on what you are doing. So either quite the housework or quite the exercises! Easiest and quickest way to remedy this situation is to quit the exercises. If, once your pain has ameliorated, then you can pick up building up the quads and hamstrings but my bet is that the PT has assumed this to be the problem, she is therefore giving you appropriate stuff to do. But it's only making things worse.

In the meantime, you need to take some pain meds - I suggest Tylenol 1,000mg 6hrly, icing as per usual. Or try a TENS machine. Other things you can try is chiropractic treatment, Acupressure massage or one of the NSAID gels.

I truly hope something works for you.

I truly hope something works for you.

Thanks Jo, I hope something works for me too.
I am starting with a new PT in the morning so I will wait to hear what she has to say and want to do to help my knee. I will heed your advice about cutting out the exercises at home, it probably is too much.

I am wondering about the location of the pain, top of my knee and in both the MCL and the LCL, does that indicate a need for patellar resurfacing?

But, if you can be patient now, it will really pay off later. Time and Nature will do their job of healing.

My patience with this is near its end, I am so very tired of everything, I am tired of being emotional, I am tired of my knee being in pain, I am tired of going to physio...etc! I am so close to saying the heck with it, but I know I can't...

That's lots of virtual hugs from me to you!

Things will get better.

@Josephine

I went to PT today, the new physiotherapist cut out all the at home exercises and all the squats and lunges. She wants to focus on getting the knee pain free. So for now it will be mainly stretches, the bike and IFC. I won't be doing weights (quad strengthening) for the next little while. Seems like I had this advice very recently from someone else ;)...

:yay:

@Josephine Thank you! It is kinda hard to not do them, I haven't and I won't but it feels like I'm not doing anything to help the knee. Funny how we get into this I have to exercise even if it hurts my knee to help the recovery...

I just finished my 1st day back to work since my knee revision in October...my knee is protesting a little and swollen more than it has been, but it was sorta good to get back to work. With everything that has happened since October, this was a very surreal day.

I hope you can find relief by cutting back on quad exercises.

Work can be a good diversion at times.

I'm glad your work day went comparatively well. as much as you can (and i know that's hard) do the absolute minimum on days that you go to work. Those are days for resting your nee as much as possible when you're not at work.

@Celle Work wasn't as kind to my knee today but it may have had more to do with the night I had...my son caught a stomach bug.....

I'm sorry to hear about the stomach bug. Stay home and take care of yourself until you get over it.

but it feels like I'm not doing anything to help the knee
But you are! You're resting it which is every bit as important as exercising it. And your work and daily activities are exercise enough.
