@kneeper A thousand times I could walk on a mat and nothing would happen but this one time it caught me! They are dangerous! I am just happy it was me who tripped not the older lady walking behind me.

@Timetolive Thank you!

How bad is it as far as recovery? Did they give you a time frame?

I am at a complete loss for words....just think of the children and how much they need & love you.

@Bikesouth Just set recovery back another couple of weeks (I hope that's all)! I have an appointment on the 21st with my OS to get it rechecked so I will have more of an idea then what's what.

I do think of my kids that's why no quitting is permitted, I can feel like I want to but I won't!

It's good to hear that you have no serious after-effects from your trip on that mat.
Just keep on keeping on, one step at a time, one day at a time.
You may take two steps forward and one step back, but you'll get there in the end. Thanks to your children, you'll stay centred on what's important.

I'll be on the road, travelling on the 21st, but I'll look on line on the 22nd, to see how you got on at your checkup with your surgeon.

Hugs! :friends:

JustmeT,
Sorry to hear about your fall, hope your OS appointment on the 21st goes well.

The only solution is... No more grocery stores for you :heehee:. Feel better!

Sorry about your fall.

...just a wee update on my knee, I saw the OS back on Dec. 21st, he is thinking I need a patellar resurfacing and a patellar button (?). The doctor thinks because of the type of pain and the location that its the patella, also why my ligaments are lax. @Josephine, any opinion? I do appreciate anything you have to say!

My knee is very much in pain no matter what unless I am just elevating it. I can walk for a little bit but no far, after a few steps its ok until it starts aching (or whatever)!

I will be returning to work on January 6th, anxious about returning but I think it will be a good thing, to get back to some routine, not just physio. I do still go to physio twice a week...that's getting old too ;)...

a patellar resurfacing and a patellar button
That's just two ways of saying the same thing!

I'd like to ask you some questions if you don't mind, and it would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are ....

1. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

2. what kind of PT exercises and exercises at home are you doing? How much and how often?

Can you describe them like these examples ....

Exercises done at home: 3 sessions a day
Heel slides x10 (reps)
Straight leg raises x10
Steps x10

At PT
Squats x5 (reps) x2 (sets)
Wall slides x5 x2
Clamshells X5 x2

1. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc
I have to do most everything that needs doing (although my kids are a wonderful help, there are things they cannot do). I do all the shopping and cooking, about 90% of the housework, its a full time job. In the meantime, I do sit when I can and elevate the knee. (I stop when I can)!
2. what kind of PT exercises and exercises at home are you doing? How much and how often?
At PT
I just started at the quad table to get to building up the quad and hamstring, 2lbs is what I am using for now, X10 reps 3 sets with a rest between, both quad and hamstring. On alternate days I will do the bike for 10 minutes, (never the quad table and bike on the same day). I do what is sort of like a lunge but I don't have to bend as far as a full lunge and a 1/4 squat both X10 reps 3 sets, rest between.
IFC (Inferential Current Therapy) X20 mins and ice X10.
This can all change because I begin with a new PT on Tuesday.

Exercises done at home: 3 sessions a day
1. Squeeze a foam wedge/towel (I use a ball) between your knees. Continuously squeeze while gently bending your knees (1/4 SQUAT). Return to standing. Relax squeeze.
Repeat 15 times.
2. Stand straight holding on to a chair.
Bring your leg backwards keeping your knee straight. Do not lean forwards.
Repeat 15 times.
3. Stand straight holding on to a support.
Lift your leg sideways and bring it back keeping your trunk straight throughout the exercise.
Repeat 15 times.
4. Stand holding the back of a chair for support.
Push up on your toes, hold 2-3 sec.
Repeat 10 times. X3
5. 1/4 Squats
Repeat 10 times. X3
(Some days I will do these at PT too just not every day).

I've been thinking about you. :friends:
How are you getting on?
We had a rough Christmas but we made it through it, next one shouldn't be as tough.
The knee is horrid as well, been a lot of pain with it but I carry on and do what needs to be done. Trying to keep things moving forward...

It's good to hear from you!

I bet Josephine will advise you to cut back a lot of your PT - because you're having to do so much around the
house.
Squats and using weights are particularly hard on a new knee. I wouldn't do them.

Did you not get the kneecap button with the TKR?

The holiday season is behind us all, hope brighter days are ahead for you and the kids.

@Celle She probably will tell me to cut back, lol! I have cut out a daily walk for now, hope to resume that soon though. I'm not doing a full squat and minimal weight, I need to get this quad strengthened...

This had been an anything but a normal recovery...and now this, staying positive is a struggle, but I am as much as I can be...
