@Pumpkln

I had the weirdest of Dr appointments today with this new guy that may or may not be our new family Dr. He took a look at my knee then proceeded to tell me that it's quite swollen, I'm like, no, really? (I said that in my own head of course). I showed him the sore spot with the bump, he then asked if I would like blood work? I'm like what I would like is your opinion? I didn't get one but he did offer me an xray requisition slip. I did, however, get a prescription for 10 more days of pain medication...he asked if I would like them before I got a chance to ask. All that being said, the bump is not as sore but the swelling is worse...which I don't understand because for two days now I have been taking it easy.

The receptionist at the Dr's clinic said to me when she had my chart, to the whole waiting area, "Oh, you don't have a next of kin anymore." I reacted to it by the tears coming although I tried to hold them, I wasn't prepared for her to say that specially where everyone could hear it, I guess I should have thought about this beforehand though.
I hated that I had this reaction in public...also I do think she could have called me at home or something not ask when (and where) she did). Now I am wondering if I am being too sensitive?

No, you are not being too sensitive, the receptionist was thoughtless and insensitive. Her BAD! :no-fin: When she saw the tears she should have asked you to step to a more private area.
My guess is she has realized her error and feels terrible, or at least she should. Of course she may be dense:bricks:.
The others in the lobby thought that receptionist was an insensitive fool. I would anyway.
Call back and ask for the blood work, they will test the levels of inflammation. A confounding factor will be that your surgery was so recent, you will have inflammation factors from that.
Of course your knee is swollen, you are a month and a day out from your revision.

It is hard to give an opinion, it does look like just a stitch, your OS is the one to take a look. Have they called back?
(((((HUGS)))))

@Pumpkln I have an appointment with my OS on the 23rd, my 6 week check up and hope I get the go ahead to go back to work appointment!

I think (and this is not my opinion alone) that the receptionist wanted a reaction because I was giving her nothing when she asked, "how are you doing?" Me, I'm ok! R: "How are your kids doing (complete with head tilt to the side)?" Me, they are ok! I don't think it was appropriate for her to be asking me questions in this situation...maybe I am wrong? I dunno!

I agree, she should not have keep pushing with her probing questions. She should have seen you were upset and stopped. Also it is none of her business!!!

6 weeks may be too early for you to go back to work, on the plus side it will be good for you to get back to your work life.

I don't know if I will be OK to go back to work because the knee won't be ready but I need to go back. I'd I knew of a way to hurry this process up I sure would but I have to remember that to push it is to slow it down! I so wish I hadn't had this surgery...

The receptionist was out of line....classless. Owes you an apology.

Your reaction was appropriate, not only are you grieving but recovering from major surgery. It hurts me just to hear such insensitivity.

The receptionist was tactless and clueless. How insensitive of her!
I think that level of insensitivity merits a formal complaint.

I'm sure you didn't want to lose control in front of a lot of other people. :console2:

If anything like that happens again, you could plan to milk it to the max and have a major, toddler-type melt down. That should get some action! :heehee:

@Pumpkln I want to return to work when my sister goes back home, my kids are in school all day, I don't want to be home alone all day!

@Celle I sure didn't want to lose control like that, I think that upset me to because I did that! A friend of mine suggested I find a mental slap image and mentally slap people when they speak before they think!

@Pumpkln I used to have my own business but we dissolved that a couple of years ago, I don't work in an office and I do work on my feet...!

@Pumpkln I assume I could sit once in a while for a few minutes...I am going to try to just go back for three hours at a time for the first week or so.

Just my two cents, but what happened at the doctor's office is a huge violation of your privacy. Doing that in the US would be a regulatory issue that could get the doctor's office into a lot of trouble. So sorry that you experienced that.

I want to return to work when my sister goes back home, my kids are in school all day, I don't want to be home alone all day!
I sure understand that you don't want to be alone all day, but I'm not sure that work would be the "fix" you need.
Do you have any friends who could pop in to keep you company at home for a while?

Is your employer a sympathetic person who would understand your physical and emotional needs, who could make allowances when you're having a bad day?
You're very vulnerable right now, as you've had two enormous shocks to your system, one physical and one emotional. Allow yourself time to grieve.

For your knee, going back to work so soon is going to put extra stress on it, at a time when it still needs lots of rest. Try to make sure you will be able to rest, ice and elevate it.
Your emotions are still raw and they will be for some time, so you will need an understanding work place.

Of course, you'll do what you feel you have to do and if that means going back to work, so be it. Whatever you do, we'll be here to listen and support you.

@saanmar Thank you for your thoughts on this, I know it wasn't professional of her and I did react in a manner I wouldn't want to do again. It just hit me hard and she is correct though, maybe I should have been a little better prepared for that.

@Celle I don't know if work will be the "fix" either but I don't really know what else to do to not be alone at home while the kids are at school. All my friends work too, the ones that live near me. My stupid knee will keep me from getting out and doing things that will keep me busy and not thinking about him all time and missing him.
