@saanmar Thank you for your thoughts on this, I know it wasn't professional of her and I did react in a manner I wouldn't want to do again. It just hit me hard and she is correct though, maybe I should have been a little better prepared for that

You are being way to hard on yourself. She violated your privacy and poured salt in your wound. I
probably would have excused myself to the restroom and cried like a baby:bawl:.

A support group at a local church or some type of social services facility would be very good for you.
Try to find something before you get to an extreme low point. I have helped a couple of friends through bad divorces which is similar to losing a soulmate. You will have to lean on others for a while to cope with all of life's changes.

@Bikesouth I just didn't like that I didn't prepare myself better for running into someone like that with her type of questions and comments. I know I will again so I have learned from this. I did feel like just leaving the clinic because of the receptionist but I needed to see the Dr.

Almost 5 weeks out and the knee decides that its time to act up...I was sitting on a chair cleaning out a clothes closet, the knee didn't like it much, shouldn't it be able to handle this at this stage of the game?

Still too early to be expecting this much of your knee. You are only 5 weeks out from your Revision, your knee needs time to heal.

5 weeks out is too early to be doing things like cleaning out a closet. I know it's good to do, but it isn't essential. For now, try to do only the things that are essential.
If you really must do something, try to break up the task into 15-minute sessions, with lots of rest between sessions.

@Pumpkln Only 5 weeks, feels like more so I am finding it hard to remember that's all it is. I need a reality check at times.

@Celle I don't remember what the time line is for doing a lot of things, 5 weeks seems it should be sufficient time to be getting back to most of the things that need doing. In reality I need to be filling my time doing anything and everything I can so I have less time to think. I am not doing alone very well atm...

@Pumpkln That's a good idea about planning a trip, we are taking some of his ashes back to Illinois where he was from, maybe it's time to at least make some tentative plans.

@Celle I kid you not, my activity level is more like week 10 not going into week 5...I have been doing a lot since day 12, because I had to...now I am paying for it! My leg is hurting, the muscle that runs along the shin bone to tendon, not sure what, and the quad is in protest. Almost every step I take today is painful....I had to give in a little while ago and take some pain medication, I hate having to take any this early in the day.

Sweetheart, it sounds as if you need a complete rest day. Hugs!

I know you want to try and keep everything as normal as possible, for your children's sake, but do allow yourself to collapse sometimes. You need it.

Don't try to hide your grief from your kids. They need to see that you're grieving and they need to show it, too. This is something that you're all going through together.

@saanmar I will have a better idea about going back to work after my 6 week check up with the OS. I would like to say yes I can go back but I do have to remind myself that I cannot do anything that will hurt my knee.

@Celle If I were to have a complete rest day I seriously would need something to make me sleep, I stop I think, I think I get up and do things then my knee is affected...my husband was good at keeping me with the program, lol.

I don't try to hide my grief from my kids but I don't want them to see me as constantly at it either...I don't think I am very good at this.

I wish knew of a way to hurry this process up but I have to remember that to push it is to slow it down! I so wish I hadn't had this surgery...
I know. And my surgeon said this to be the day before surgery - that I'd hate him for the first 8 weeks and at 6 weeks I'd regret ever having it done. Boy! Was he ever right?!
I am wondering what your thoughts are on switching from demerol to tramadol!
I'm not familiar with Demerol but what I've read seems to indicate it's not that dissimilar to Tramadol but different folks react differently to different meds! Personally I'd loved Tramadol and never wanted anything else for my second knee. However, the routine I worked out for knee #1 didn't suit knee #2 and I had to just grit my teeth for the last 40 minutes before every dose! These were my charts for its use which I leave here for you to consider.

No way, José! Celle left you an article - I suggest you read it!

I couldn't do things like that until week 8 for both knees, despite I'd had a much, much better recovery second time around. Just remember, you can't hurry this.

The thing about sitting in a chair is that you get stiff, and your leg does not like to be down. I am a week ahead of you and I do housework in 10 minute increments. With 20 minute rest periods!

No one is "good" at grieving. Planning a trip to place the ashes sounds like a really good idea. Plan it in great detail. Fill your mind with the little things. To me, grief is like a sharp object that hurts to examine. But like seaglass, the edges are eventually smoothed by constant turning over. Takes a long time.

I think of you often. Take good care of yourself.

@Josephine I can't say I hate my surgeon because I know the way the knee is atm is my own doing! I guess I should stop whining... seeing I caused a lot of this myself. Lol!

Wow, you were very precise and diligent with hour medications, that is a very good thing. Mine is easy, 100mg Demerol, 200mg Celebrex and 75mg Lyrica before bed each night, that's it! I don't take anything during the day.

I know I have been doing too much too soon...I did read the article @Celle left for me, that's when I realized I was acting like I was at 10+ weeks...it just feels like a lifetime ago I had this revision and I expect a lot of myself. It has been a strange and weird recovery,

@Slainte I learned very quickly that sitting on a chair doing things isn't any better than standing to do them. Of course that doesn't mean I won't forget and for something equally as silly again soon!

I know no one is good at "grieving", what I meant is that I am not good with having so many emotions so near the surface all the time ready to erupt without warning.

Yes, I will be planning this trip with both my children involved, my daughter wants to go to Chicago to visit a couple of places her dad used to go and talked about with us. Thank you for thinking of us...that is very kind of you.

JustmeT,
Glad you are going to give yourself a little more time to heal before tackling another closet.

Grieving is difficult no matter the circumstance. Tuesday was the first anniversary of my Mothers passing, all day long I had a feeling of malaise, like Slainte wisely said the edges do get smoother.

My husband is from Chicago, great place to visit, I will be looking forward to seeing your itinerary, so many great places to visit.
