Re: Op cancelled

Natalie, so sorry you are not comfortable. Sure does bring back memories.

Bug every nurse or doc that comes in your room about your meds. I know I complained and someone will eventually listen. It's kind of like begging I'm afraid to say.

Crazy about the ice. It's a shame because the big time swelling probably won't hit you for another day or so.

As for the bleeding, I had 2 knees done at once, one of them bled more than the other. I hope the nurses are cleaning your knee often. I did have to get 2 units of blood. I'm not sure if the blood loss was from operation or the post-op.

I know this probably won't help much, but it does get better. And I know you are trying to get someone to understand this pain situation. I think someone needs to talk to head nurse or Dr. next time he/she comes in on rounds. Tell them you need more coverage because it's wearing off. I hope you have a better night and day tomorrow.

Re: Op cancelled

Natalie, I am so sorry to hear that they cancelled your surgery! But, on the bright side; your surgeon will be well rested and you will get the best care from someone who has not had to be stressed out.:D

Re: Op cancelled

Sonja....Natalie DID receive her knee replacement! She was worked in on a cancellation and is now beginning recovery.

Re: Op cancelled

Hi guys thanks for your support and advice as always xxx

The only way to deal with the pain is to request the oramorph every 2 hours they also put me onan anti inflammatory last night. The physio said yesterday they would only use ice in extreme cases of swelling they do not come today as it's Sunday so I will try asking the day nurses.

I'm not sure what will happen today but I would really like to get up out of bed but seen as the physios aren't coming I'm not sure that will happen.

Thanks again I will keep you posted xxx
The bleeding from drain has eased a lot the nurses have been fab checking all the time.

Re: Op cancelled

Natalie - I'm moving this into the Recovery Forum. And also changing the title a tad!

Jamie,

I think Nat and I are in the same forest - we take a lot of pain mgt. drugs before surgery and now that it is after surgery they are maxing out our drugs to a safe level w/ our blood pressure and breathing but it still is not making us comfortable. It really sucks to have such a high tolerance to pain meds and low tolerance to pain. I think that is what's going on w/ Nat which is what's happening w/ me too...Nat please correct if I'm wrong,

thanks and ((hugs))

Linda.

Nat sending prayers your way for an ease to your pain.

Linda, that is my big fear. I have a chronic health issue that causes chronic pain and I take a strong med daily now. What are they gonna do after my TKR? Thats why at this point I have put if off. I need to be reassured before I go forward. Hugs!

Hi Natalie, hang in there! This is just the beginning of your journey. Day by day things will improved. You are just on the bumpy part of the road at the moment.

Sending you lots of positive (((vibes)))!

Offering you big hugs and prayers for pain relief. I'm so glad that you were able to get it done, and so sad to hear about the pain problems.

Keep hanging in there--once the pain subsides, it quickly becomes a dull memory that fades. Knowing that doesn't help now when your leg is on fire and your entire body is screaming, but the pain will subside and you have a new knee!

{{hugs}}

Weezy

Hey everyone hope your all ok xx

Linda that is exactly what it is we are in the exact same situation xx

It's been a really long day today no physio but I have been doing my exercises.

Just a quick question too did anyone experience night twitching?I seem to just fall asleep then twitch really badly and it totally wrecks my knee :(

Thanks for moving the thread Jamie it's good to be in the recovery section xxx

Natalie....actually Jo got you set up in the recovery forum. I understand about your tolerance to pain meds. Just don't hesitate to keep asking if you are in pain. I just don't want you trying to "tough it out" if something is available. I hope the pain level subsides a little for you each day. You do sound better today than the first day after surgery. Usually things begin to improve fairly quickly.

Natalie...I agree. If it hurts say so...if the pain get over three ask for more. Also, I know it is difficult, but try to keep yourself distracted. Play solataire or listen to music or plan a vacation for when your knee has healed. Shop for some new clothes. Play Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook...very addictive. It is really hard when you are stuck in your room and hurt!

I agree with Jaime it does improve.
:wink::wink:

I had severe twitching after surgery. I always thought it was drug related. They never were able to pinpoint which drug it was. You may want to ask for an Ativan or something. I was prescribed one/some but never took it. Looking back, I should have.

I hope you soon have some very good pain relief. You do sound much better than your first few posts after surgery, though. Good for you, doing your exercises - gently, I hope. I am sending gentle hugs and prayers your way. Please take good & gentle care,

Sorry I must have read it wrong thanks for moving. It Jo xx

I have tried to keep myself distracted today by reading but the lack of sleep finally got to me but as soon as I slept I twitched!I'm waiting to see a doctor about it.
The nurses have set up a drug plan to ensure I have a painkiller to take every 2 hours hopefully I will get it a bit more under control in next few days.
Drain site has been bleeding again a bit but not too much just about to have it changed.
Thankyou for all your support just being able to pop on here is helping me so much xxx

Honey, you're doing fine. First few days are always messy!

I'm glad you're going to talk with your doctor about the twitching. I think thre is a medication that can be given for a short period of time to help with that....I seem to recall a couple of our members taking something like maybe an anti-anxiety drug. But I can't recall exactly what.

I had the twitching too and still do - it seems to have calmed down some but I still get it. My Dr. put me on a muscle relaxer IV at first and now by mouth - Robaxin (Methocarbanol). It helped a lot. Maybe ask about it?

((hugs))
Linda.

I am glad you were able to do some reading. Are you reading something very good & interesting?

I didn't know if one would be able to be focused enough to read a book. I have, however, been hoarding magazines. My thought was that I could probably concentrate long enough to read a magazine article even if I couldn't focus enough to read a book.

I hope you soon get the twitching under control. It's also good to hear that you and your team have a good plan for pain management.

Hugs & prayers,.
