We can't have our cake and eat it, or can we?

Is there an alternative to morphine? It seems a shame that meds help to solve one problem and cause another.

If it was me I'd start another thread for the next chapter of your story, some of us go on holiday and lose the track of popular threads. It also helps when people search for historical info, so it wouldn't be easy to find these contributions to constipation, would it. But I'm treading on the mods toes here:blush:

Unfortunatly the morphine is the only meds have worked for me so it's a no win situation right now.

Hopefully in the weeks to come both the pain and constipation will have subsided!

This may be in the library, haven't had to visit that subject. But have you tried suppositories?

Here's a list of high fiber foods:

I'm just pulling this back to the end so I can have a look at what I need to be eating more of :thmb:

This may be in the library, haven't had to visit that subject. But have you tried suppositories?

My doc says it is the next step Helen :thmb:

But because I only "normally" go every 3 to 4 days the doctor is hoping the stool softeners will eventually help me get back to that.

I was going to mention suppositories also. I think you should take that route, Natalie....at least this once to get going again.

It will be okay. If you don't do it, they will. So just 'do it'.

When I get into trouble, I always have my trusty Miralax waiting for me! It always works!:hehe:

It might be called something different on your side of the pond , but it is the powder form that is tasteless, and you can mix with water and not even tell. I choose apple juice, but I could use water. :D

Yes that's what the movicol is like so it bust be the same thing :)

So after all those sachets yesterday I still haven't been but I've got terrible belly ache and wind!!

Natalie, I'm so sorry you are having these issues. I had some terrible problems myself and was just about to get the enema when things finally got moving. You may want to ask your doctor if you could do this. You don't want to have to go to the hospital.

Well after speaking to my doctor he said the only option was enema but first to try 6 sachets of Movicol in a litre of water over 6 hours so I started at 10am and I've managed to go a bit!I've also had branflakes prune juice and pure orange juice!

I didn't go to PT because I had terrible belly ache so rescheduled it for Thursday.

How you Rebecca?

After a long day of belly pains I have finally been properly and I intend to keep this under control now!
I'm going to take a few sachets a day until the problem eases.

"We can't have our cake and eat it, or can we?"

As long as it is Prune cake laced with ex-lax:hehe:

Sorry....I couldn't resist!!!!

Constipation is awful. You need the pain meds. I used great quantities of prunes, and for some reason, cherries cleaned out the pipes....

I did turn to the stick of dynamite (suppository) only once. I found it made me crampy and goodness, I didn't need any more pain! It did its job though and I was happy about that.

Also, too much fiber can backfire and contribute to the problem. All things in moderation....

Result Natalie! Sorry you had to go through this. Good idea, keep things going :hehe:. Take care!

Well, that was a 'cereal' story! I'm glad it worked 'in the end'! Can't think of any more cliches so - I'm just glad you're unbunged now, Nat!
