TKR liam2015: 1 Year Anniversary, Life Goes On!

@Canada35 ~ if your physio got you to 102 degrees and on your own to 95 degrees, then you're doing great and will be even better by the time you have your surgeon appointment. we sat in the orchestra seats and they were very comfortable and good leg room. there are 2 restaurants right across the street: Jazz Bistro where we ate and right next door, The Senator but you need to make reservations. you'll have to post here and let us know how you liked Beautiful. try not to worry (like i did) about your surgeon appointment. you've gone beyond the point of needing an m.u.a., at least that's what i've learned here.:hi:

That's great that your knee is doing so well. It sounds like your adventure was so much fun. And congratulations on making it on all those stairs, that's a great accomplishment.
And I agree with susieshoes, I'm sure it was all worth it.

@knit2tog and @SusieShoes ~ yes, it was worth it if even if i do join the ODIC. as for liam, well it's really hubby that needs to be trained. liam was perfectly fine sleeping in his crate. last night he kept to the middle. i still have those songs going through my head. just getting ready to drive myself to physio. have a great day.

Good Morning Liam2015! Sounds like a well deserved night on the town! After all these weeks with the Lounge Doctor your outing was much needed I expect. I also love Carol King and hope to see that musical one day. Congrats on the accidental down step - another milestone in your future I expect. The Prince is going to have to go back to the crate so the queen can take her rightful place in bed - hope physio goes well today.

@liam2015, I'm delighted to hear that you had such a fun night on the town and managed all those subway stairs; brava! I recently finished just reading "Girls Like Us," a biography of Carole, Joni and Carly, and was amazed at just how much great music Carole had brought to us before "Tapestry." She's an incredible talent and I'm sure your head was buzzing all night long with her best tunes. If you overdid it, it was well worth it!:yes!:

Uh-oh, at Prince Liam taking over your spot in bed! He's a big boy and your bed will definitely feel smaller, lol.

@Pheebs52 that sounds like a wonderful biography "girls like us". the creativity and hard work of these musicians and actors is amazing. we got a king size bed years ago to accommodate the animals. we used to have one dog and 2 cats sleeping with us lol. the prince is all curled up there again tonight. he gets hubby up at 6:30 sharp and never bothers me because he knows i won't give in...doesn't even beg food from me. :dogsniff::meow:

@liam2015, before our two present, little, furry despots, we had two large dogs (70 pounds) and a Queen sized bed. When the mattress needed replacing, we decided to go for a King size since space was at a premium. Imagine our surprise when my two *big girls* never got in bed again, lol!

How's your knee doing after your busy day @liam2015 ?

hi @kneeper ~ the next morning (wednesday) after going to the theatre and navigating on the subway system, i had physio and it went the same as usual with the massage, manipulation, laser, tens, ice packs and 5 minutes rocking on the bike; also some new home exercises. she didn't give me a number for my r.o.m. yesterday my knee was a little achey but something new happened. i think i mentioned i walked down a shallow step with the wrong foot last week and it didn't hurt; yesterday i walked down the regular stairs alternate feet ~ well almost as i touched down with my tippy toe, not quite flat but improving. i had physio again this morning (friday), same routine. i think my r.o.m. without assistance was 87 and with physio pushing 96. she says i'm doing very well, although i know i'm a lot slower in gaining the r.o.m. than others. i did a grocery shopping on the way home, driving myself here and there now.

she said she could feel clicking going on in my knee and said that was a good thing as long as no pain and explained about what it meant. sorry can't remember exactly what she said, but that things were loosening up. i mentioned to her that a lot of others mentioned clicking but i had not heard or felt it before. last time i was at the surgeon he put his ear to my knee. i had no idea why.

tomorrow, driving around 2 hours to an outdoor theatre we go to every summer on a farm (4th Line Theatre in Millbrook) and staying overnight with friends in Peterborough; taking liam with us and his crate ~ this should be interesting. we may not get invited back again lol.

@liam2015, I'm sure Prince Liam will be a model house guest, lol. That sounds like a really fun outing and I'll be interested to see how you do on such a long car trip. Have a ball!:happydance:

thanks @Pheebs52 . we are in the middle of changing internet and t.v. providers; the technician is drilling holes to place the new modem. i will be getting a new email address, so hopefully i'll be able to get back on Bonesmart without any hitches. have been icing and elevating on my lounge doctor for 2 hours (fell asleep). hope everyone has a peaceful weekend.

@Celle ~ i just want you to know that i will have a new email address; the present one will be cancelled tonight as of midnight. the technician was here for over 6 hours setting up with new internet provider. i haven't set up my new email address yet ~ possibly sunday before i get around to it and we're going away tomorrow for overnight. i'm hoping i can still log in to Bonesmart. hope everyone will be enjoying their weekend, recovering gently.

@liam2015 - Please will you let us know your new email address when you know it? Send me a PM, so you don't have to put it on public view.
I've asked Jamie if we can change your email address for you, but it may be possible for you to do it yourself. I'll let you know.

Week 13 update: First of all, our trip to Millbrook's 4th Line Outdoor Theatre and our friends in Peterborough went fine, although not pain-free. It was a 2-l/4 hr. drive, with Liam, his crate, food, toys, then around an hour and a half sitting outside having a wonderful dinner with our friends, next a half hour drive to Millbrook and a couple of hours sitting in the most uncomfortable, cheap plastic chairs at the outdoor theatre with a 20 minute break. After that a half hour drive back to Peterborough and another couple of hours socializing at the dining room table with wine and cheese! My poor knee was very uncomfortable but i didn't complain. I forgot to bring my tylenol. It took me a long time to get comfortable in bed and sleep although i had an ice pack which helped. Next day, same thing in reverse: sit outside in the beautiful garden in the countryside, inside for breakfast, then 2-1/4 hour drive home.

The best thing was @Pheebs52, Liam was a rock star. They loved him and played with him outside. We had the e-collar on him so he stayed on the property, never jumped up on anyone and didn't grab anything (like he does at home.) :doggie: I don't think he even barked, even when the wild turkeys startled him. He had a ball running around the huge property and guess what...they invited him to come back. We're going back for another play on August 11 but not taking Liam this time ~ my niece will dog sit. (Sorry to get off topic).

Back to my update. I was exhausted after that trip but bounced back. I had physio twice this week, Monday and Thursday; same routine ~ massage, manipulation, laser, tens with ice packs below and above; lower the lights and cover me up ~ felt good as usual. Then i tried the bike, just rocked back and forth to discomfort. My r.o.m. increased a little more from 87 degrees to 92 degrees on my own and from 96 degrees to 102 degrees with manipulation (which i realize doesn't count but proves my knee will bend to that). Last night i went for a very long walk and was quite tired, sore and stiff today. Also, i had done all my new exercises a few hours before physio, which probably accounted for both the increased r.o.m. and the increased soreness and stiffness. I have not done any exercises today or long walks, will start tomorrow with either one and try to figure out what caused the soreness or is it just because i'm falling into old habits such as staying up until 1:30 a.m.? I am pleased that my r.o.m. is increasing a little each time. I'm also walking down the stairs, still very gingerly, with alternate feet so that i don't overuse my non-operated leg/knee.

Increasing ROM little by little is wonderful progress! It sounds like you are doing really well. Be careful with PT pushing your leg. That could cause swelling which will bring ROM down.

Thanks @sistersinhim ~ it's a relief to be able to take all the time i need to gain r.o.m. I am so glad to have the weekend to recover. I've also started to make my 2 physio appointments per week at least 3 days apart so i can have time to recover and do my exercises. My physiotherapist told me that the instructions on the print out of exercises she gave me were just guidelines and i could hold for as long as appropriate and as many sets appropriate for me. I'm only doing them once a day or every other day, and certainly not 3 times a day as suggested on the sheet. I'm so glad the weekend is here ~ time to rest and recover.
