Hip Arthroscopy Hip Arthroscopy ups and downs

Hi @Alfie888
Pain is no fun. It drains our energy and robs our joy.
Who knows better than us who've walked the path.
Once you gain relief yourself, you want everyone to feel better.
Hope this weekend is good for you!

@MammaT, Yes, I imagine the weather plays it’s role in the fascinating world of pain. It has been very cold and damp here for some time now. Last night was a killer. I only managed a few hours, then woke up at 5am and couldn’t get back to sleep, so decided to go fishing rather that mope around the house. I managed to break my run of bad luck by catching loads of tiny roach as the sun was coming up. Lots of deer running around at dawn, heaven knows where they hide during the day as they only show themselves at dusk and dawn. I should sleep tonight as I can hardly keep my eyes open now and it’s only 5.30pm.

Not long now till your op. I bet your counting the days.

Glad you caught some fish today @Alfie888. If we can’t sleep, might as well do something. Hope the outing helps you rest better.

Laughing :heehee: you caught "loads of tiny roach". The only roach I ever heard of is a cockroach.
Well....and a butt of a certain kind of cig. Trying to picture a net full of either one :holysheep:

Wondering if the fishing serves as a pleasant distraction and eases your pain for a time.
Being out in nature, watching the day come to life, seeing the deer, I hope it's all calming
and brings you some moments of peace @Alfie888
Hopefully the exhaustion your feeling today produces some sound restorative sleep overnight.
Warm wishes for a week of peaceful comfort.

@Layla, if only the roach where of the cig kind I might well get a good nights sleep:heehee: They are very pretty fish, shame about the name really.

Yes, it’s definitely therapy. A form of meditation really. There is something magical being by water when the sun comes up. It’s easy to do at this time of year with the days being short. It takes a bit more dedication in summer when sunrise is at 4am.

You're a hoot! @Alfie888 Sense of humor intact!
It's nice to know you can still enjoy life's simple pleasures and achieve
moments of peace and relaxation. I hope you find permanent relief soon.

I'm with Emerson on this

To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field, it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again.

There is something healing in nature...if not for our bodies...at least our souls.
Are roaches good to eat? Fresh fish is the best, good for our joints too.

This was the sun setting in the country Friday. Wonder sometimes how many others even notice it outside their window glass?

Just a few more days until your appointment @Alfie888
Please try to post and let us know what they think about your ongoing issues.
Hope weekend is peaceful

Wondering if you were able to glean any insight about your current condition from doctor?
I don't know how bad your hip was, and how extensive the work was that you had done, but it doesn't seem to be progressing well. I'm certainly no doctor, but you are too young not to get this behind you at some point.
Hope you'll let us know.
Wishing you a good week.

Yes @Alfie888, inquiring minds wondering if doc had any news for you. Saw my os yesterday-surgery is on for feb 5.

Hoping our pal, Alfie is doing well.
It would be wonderful to hear whether you got any satisfaction out of your appt on Monday.
You've been quiet, I know it's tough hanging in there, hoping you're ok

Have you been on any of your pre-dawn nature adventures lately?
The Adventures of Alfie are entertaining, hope you're out exploring some this week.
@Alfie888

Hi @Layla, @Mojo333, @MammaT, sorry I haven’t replied in a while, I’ve had a hectic week with the added bonus last weekend of having the worst constipation I’ve ever experienced. I was pretty close to calling for medical help the pain was so bad. My other half ended up going to the late night pharmacy on Sunday evening to buy a diy emema kit. It did the job, but not a experience I want to have endure again in a hurry. I was completely exhausted on Monday from the ordeal. I’ve only been taking pain killers before bed but their effect caught me out:shocked:

So, I had my appointment with the surgeon on Tuesday. He X-rayed me and has suggested a steroid injection to see if things will settle down. It’s kind of what I was expecting as my physio had suggested this would probably be the next course of action. Just have to wait for the appointment now. If the injection doesn’t yield any results he also wants me to see a back specialist. It looks like they are just trying to exhaust all avenues before committing to a replacement.

The pain hasn’t been so bad this week but I think I may have overdone it yesterday as it hurts quite a bit today, but it is the weekend so I can take it easy for a couple of days.

Oh my stars Alfie.
Not even going to make a joke as I had my first 3 weeks post op plagued with the No Go Show.
So miserable. I'm guessing limited movement doesn't help.
It was my first big accomplishment to get that out of the way.
Drink ever so much and get you some fruit....
Thankful you have SOME relief.
I'm hoping you have an easy weekend!

What's It All About, Alfie?
Have to tell you every time I see your avatar that old Dionne Warwick song plays in my
head. You're probably too young to remember it but you can just humor me and act like you do, lol!

My word! I see what's it all about.
It's about the 8 lbs you lost in one sitting this week!! :holysheep: No pun intended :rotfl:

In all seriousness I'm sorry! That must have been awful. Only joking because it's now behind you.
It seems you're being forced to jump through hoops and I'm sorry for that. I hope you soon find relief.
With any luck the weekend has been tolerable....Wishing you a great week!

I certainly hope they can schedule the injection soon @Alfie888. The first one I had in my left hip helped for several months. The second shot, not even a week. The right hip for maybe two weeks. I think it is a **** shoot, but it can work in your favor.

Your patience is amazing. But sometimes all we can do is go through the steps to get what is needed.

@Mojo333, @Layla, I can laugh about it now, but I did think I was in trouble at the time. Not sure what brought it on, I’ve been fine since the op.

A friend of mine told me a story about his elderly mother. Apparently, she was that backed up they had to take her into hospital. It was so serious they thought they might have to operate if they couldn’t flush her out, but She was that terrified, the minute they got her through the hospital doors the poor woman got rid of the lot in the reception. My pal said she cleared the waiting area in seconds with the smell :heehee::rotfl:. Anyways, enough of this toilet talk.

Hahaha, Sure I know the song Layla, from the old Michael Cain movie of the same name. Great film.

@MammaT, let’s hope it works. I think it’s more diagnostic than anything. Were you up and about the next day or should I expect a day or two suffering?

I had no suffering with hip injection @Alfie888. Put in some numbing medicine and I could watch it on the screen. Some pain relief immediately because of it. Didn’t go back to work that day but I probably could have. It may not provide any long term relief, but here in the states it seems to be part of protocol before they move ahead.

I can’t quite figure out the UK protocol. From reading on here there seems to be some variance.

Hopes your Monday was good since I believe it’s Tuesday where you are! I certainly hope you’re not up at this hour with pain.

Alfie, that story is hilarious! I'm just imagining a waiting room full of people sniff, sniff, sniffing,
looking around the room at each other, chuckling under their breath, gagging expressions on their faces, covering their noses and mouths, phew...then one by one scatter! I have the sense of humor of a 10 yr old boy :heehee:

I sure wish you could find some permanent relief, Alfie. I hope this week shakes out to be one of your better ones!
Take care....
@Alfie888

Not sure what or where, but Fractured just had an injection that is providing some relief .
Certainly hoping same for you!
