TKR Finally found a new surgeon

@sistersinhim
Thank ou for the link you posted, I went to the link and read it and it was so very helpful in relaxing my nerves on my rehab, I can’t thank you enough.:happydance::yay::dancy:

Super! I'm glad it helped. It seems a lot of OSs and even more PTs want to scare people into doing too much and it ends up backfiring with more swelling and less ROM. It's all connected.

went on a 3 mile hike in the mountains of Ga. to day with my wife and I think I over done it big time, my Knee and leg has blown up like a balloon, got to get iced pretty fast, thought I was up to it but guess I’m not quite ready to get back to the trails that I love so much. Can hardly bend my knee and the Zingers are killing me, I’m just thankful I quit drinking 22years ago or I would probably be drunk right now and not able to type this, well give y’all an update tomorrow.:tiredwheel::dead::elevate::ice::angel:

Oh no, it's much too early to try that. I was 6 months before went hiking in the mountains, and it was on hardtop 99% of the time. I still had some swelling and soreness, but had taking my ice maker and ice machine with me. You will probably be quite uncomfortable for a few days. Do as little as you can until that knee calms down. After it's all over with, you'll say it was worth it!

So sorry that you completely joined the "ODIC" in a big way (Overdid it club). Do give yourself rest and don't be surprised if it takes several days to be back to feeling like you did before the hike. I once overdid it opening and closing gates on a 4 wheeler at around 10 weeks and I swore I felt like it set me back 2 weeks.

Mr. Gary, I just started with this forum less than two months ago so I am new also. However, I have had many conversations with people on this site despite that short time.
I had my first total knee done on June 19 and my second one done three months later on September 13.
Ideally it would have been better to wait six months in between surgeries but my work situation meant that I had to try to get all this done sooner.
I agree with Susie shoes in not waiting too long to get the second one done because of what she said. But six months doesn't sound too bad to me and I wish I could have done that.
I am still recovering from my second knee but I did not do much PT this time around. With my first knee I had aggressive and moderate PT which kept me painful all the time. Then when I had my second one, I stopped PT and now I have just been doing very mild stuff and functional activities and a little walking as able, and do not have near the pain I had with the first.
I was very skeptical too about stopping traditional PT and trying to just let things heal for the first 4 to 6 weeks with lots of ice and elevation and rest. I was also worried about things going backwards or just not progressing at all.
I still tend to have a lot of swelling in the knees that likes to stay there, but I do believe the range of motion will increase as the swelling goes down. You are lucky you can sleep on your side. I still can't, even with a pillow between my knees due to my knees feeling too tender and sore. Have to lay on my back with a small thin pillow under my knees which I know is not recommended but is comfortable. My back doesn't get sore though laying on it a lot.
I think if you are able to convince yourself to lay off with the exercises and PT for a week or two, I think you could notice some really good benefits of decreased pain.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement, I’m 65 years old and my wife says I act like a little kid, but you will never know what this new “family” means to me, thank you again for your support.:roseshwr::flwrysmile::happydance:

Hello Mr. Gary,
I completely understand what you mean and how you feel. Bone smarties are now all my family too, they are my knee friends :-) I have learned a lot from all of the people on the forum and have a different mindset about everything now. Plus the information is invaluable.
I am grateful too. :-) :-)

I'm 66 and most times I feel 35 mentally, but sometimes 85 physically! Now, if I could just get my body to feel 35, too!

Bonesmart has been my family for going on two years now. During my dark days after my tkr, I could always find someone on here, no matter the time, to listen and sympathize with me.

Please let me ask everyone, when do the stabbing pain (Zingers) stop ? I am 11 weeks after TKR.:sos::scare:

I just had one of those this morning. I get them very seldom. Other people get them a lot, and maybe they can tell you more. The good news is most zingers (the word covers a lot of ambiguous ground) are simply due to reconnecting nerves and that’s a good thing. Just uncomfortable when the zingers are flying!

I haven't had a lot of them, but the last week or two (I'm at 8 months) I've had several. I'm taking that as a sign that maybe my body is more healthy and back to healing.

I still get little tiny ones where the shaft of the implant goes into my tibia. They are no where near what they used to be, though, so yours will be getting better as time goes on!

Thank you Ladys,
They come very unexpectedly “hard, sharp and fast” I find if I put a lot of pressure with my thumb, it seems to get rid of the Zinger for a while, till the next one.

Those zingers are little electric shocks, sent out by your nerves that were cut during surgery. They're trying to re-connect.
The zingers can hang around for a while, but they do eventually go away.

@Celle
Thank you, some time there pretty hard to handle, as they come hard, sharp and very fast, and they only last a few seconds.

Thank God they last only a few seconds!

At 11 weeks, is it pretty normal to only be able to bend 90 degrees, since I stopped the PT, the pain has improved very, very much, but I can only bend my knee at about 90 degrees, what should I do ? Just keep doing what I’m doing, or start the PT again. Will my ROM come back eventually without PT ? :umm::scratch:
