THR Fairydell's recovery thread

and after a while I gave up making any effort to sleep in the hours of darkness.

I think last night was the final straw... I don't honestly know how I function on so little sleep. I too plan to give up even trying. It's miserable laying there in pain. I might just as well get up and potter about/browse the internet. From now on I intend to sleep every time I feel like it during the day.

That's how I did it, for real!
I too was sleep deprived before surgery...just wanted sleep!:sigh:
Then it was, well, I won't say how long...but too long before a really good nights sleep:gaah:
I did the same, puttered as legs needed to move it seemed, Bonesmarted, and lots of power naps.
Take it when you can get it...:yes:
It will come!
Hope your day is sweet!:SUNsmile:

I really can relate @Fairydell Hoping this will encourage you. I am starting to get better sleep now at 5 weeks. So exhausted from it all that I’m still taking naps too. I’ve noticed everything hurts less after a two hour nap. Maybe inflammation improves, don’t know but like @Mojo333 sleep has been hard to come by. ❤️

Tony bought a TENS machine for me yesterday and I have used it twice. The pain hasn't completely gone but I think it has taken the angry edge off of it. My friend is due home from her holiday this weekend and I plan on asking her to show me the best position for the pads.. she is a retired occupational therapist
it's 02:05 am and I am currently icing the rear end. The painkillers are just about due then I can go back to sleep. I do actually feel that I will be able to sleep now.

So far so good with the TENS machine. It took the edge off the pain in my hip sufficiently for me to be able to drop back off. I managed not one but two sleeps of two hours duration through the night. I need to do a bit of research to see how often I can safely use it. Tony bought the four pad machine but up to now I have only been using two of the pads. It didn't make a difference to my below the knee pain but that is probably down to the positioning of the pads. The physio lady told me not to put them below my knee and I wish I had thought to ask why. It might be that it is nerve damage pain below the knee and perhaps the TENS might aggravate it..... any thoughts hippies?

My mother in law swore by her Tens machine... used it all the time & everywhere! So glad you got some well deserved sleep @Fairydell
That will make a difference!
Wishing you a sleepy weekend![emoji3590][emoji3590]

Sleep heals everything and makes such a difference to how we view recovery too... are you in the UK... ? we’ve gale force winds here on the South Coast so think an indoors day is on the cards!

Hi @Fairydell and @Hoppy Nanny the weather is pretty nasty up here on the East Coast too, so a quiet day for me also. I've pottered around for a couple of hours and had my second unassisted shower upstairs so I'm now back on my bed with legs elevated - it's a hard life . I'm 4 weeks post op on Tuesday and had been trying to reduce codeine and paracetamol but had groin pain last night so am back on 6 hrly regularly for a bit longer. I'm very lucky that I'm sleeping much better than before op and I swear by soft silicone ear plugs - they sit just in the outer ear and I find them unnoticeable in use but stop me waking at the slightest noise, Boots & Tesco sell them Hope you all have a good weekend

@Hoppy Nanny and @mollymum I am in the UK... I live close to the birth place of Captain James Cook the great explorer. It delights me to think I may even be walking in the same fields that he may have done as a boy.
Tony has just popped out for some groceries... I have such a dry mouth that I keep sticks of celery next to the bed for through the night.. I was having too many sugary sweets to give me some moisture . Celery leaves my mouth feeling much less dry than the sweets did.

@mollymum
You seem to be doing really well... glad the earplugs are working well too.. it all helps.
I’ve had groin pain the last few days too... think I’m walking differently..
@Fairydell
How lovely to live near Captains Cook birthplace... such history.
Not sure about the celery!!!’
Weather iffy today... so windy.. hope yours is better girls x

Just realised we haven't seen you in a couple of days. I am trying to decide if you got fed up and jumped off a cliff or finally sleeping. With all the sleep you have missed, you could hibernate for a month! :sleeep:

I have spent many a miserable painful hour through the night making Kusudama flowers.. If you take twelve of the little flowers and join them together they create a nice ball shape. My plan is to poke some wisps of cotton wool that I have soaked in Lavender oil into the gaps. I will hang them on my bed post in the hope that sleep can be induced.

I'm apparently like everyone else and wondering where and how you've been! The flowers really are beautiful but I'd hate to ask what time in the middle of the night you were doing these! I was really hoping you'd be getting some good sleep in by now. Hope you are feeling better with your recovery, let us know how you're doing when you can! :flwrysmile:
