is is "Resume the position"?

What ever doesn't hurt, I would guess. Last time I saw him, before vacation, I asked about walking on sand and he said Go have fun in the sand. I'm guessing that's the same message I'd get from him about sex!

Love how I post that little morsel about sex on here and we all come alive....I think that so many of us are tired of our joints hurting and a little fun and romance again would be a good thing. My problem is waiting for my husband now. He pinched a nerve in his neck and I don't think no amount of telling him it really would make him feel better will work. Where is that pool boy when I need him......... :rotfl:

I was told Sean Connery was coming to my house but he never made it!

Holy moly, this post went wild!:dancy: Very important conversation though! After all we did get our new joints so we can get back to living a happier life! And for most of us , not all, sex is as important as food, water, money to pay bills, housing and clothing. We all place it in a different order on the list of needs, at different times in our lives. It certainly should not be any more taboo to talk about than constipation, that's for sure.

Now I'll have an order of George Clooney with my glass of wine please! In my dreams of course!!!:yahoo:

Ugh, sleep where are you. Tick, tick, tick, waiting for a few more minutes to be able to take my pain medicine. Hope then I can go back to sleep. I think maybe over did in therapy today. My therapist is good and gentle, but still you have to do things. So with being two weeks out, just what is right? Has me working on several different machines where you do ten reps and then rest and then again, then onto another machine. He moved the kneecap around a little and that looked good as before surgery it was rock solid. How much do you all get up and move around when elevating and icing? Once an hour for how long? My house is pretty big and I just walk around in the house. I could go outside, but only the driveway is paved and the driveway is 350 feet long, but it is gravel and I better wait until I am more sure footed. Anxious to head out to the garden just to look. Poor husband isn't very good and finding the vegetables before they become the size of watermelons. He always says this got away on me...LOL He is trying and I don't eat them anyway. Almost time for the pain pills and then maybe I can drift away and who should I dream of....how about Christian from 50 Shades of Grey??? Any of you reading that? I read the first two books before surgery and had gotten into about a third of the third book. Haven't gone back until today to try and read. Seems with pain pills the mind just can't think while reading. It is a crazy book, can't say it would trip my trigger, but I am reading. Good night all....I hope....

I hope you got some of the elusive sleep, Debbie. Sorry I haven't got to that stage yet where I can offer you advice.

Must admit that the 50 Shades of Grey books haven't appealed to me. I have heard they aren't written very well. Oh dear that makes me sound like an intellectual doesn't it, which I'm not :rotfl:

I'm sure you'll be about to get out into the garden before long.

Hi Debbie, sleep can be elusive, no question. When i was finally sleep deprived, I had my OS write me a script for Ambien which helped restore my natural sleep cycle. It took a few weeks but then right back on track.

You are probably wise to stick to level ground and not stray too far until your more sure footed. I found just getting up and moving around the house was enough for me for the first 3 weeks or so, then started adding things like a short outing to the grocery store, going to lunch at a favorite restaurant, things like that. It improved my outlook and changed the scenery which I needed.

After my TKR, I had lined up a bunch of books I wanted to read. I thought since I would have all this time on my hands, that I would be able to read to my hearts content. Reality for me was that I could not focus at all. My mind seemed like a bowl of pudding, soft and mushy. It took months for me to get back to having a sharp focus. I spent my time watching movies for the most part, just background noise a lot of the time.

Be well and sleep will find its way back to you!

Dawn

Debbie, at two weeks, I spent 80% of my time with my foot elevated. I would get up for lunch or whatever, walk around--mostly outside, I hate being indoors, for about 20 min. then, back down to ice for two hours. Up for 20 to 30 min. then, back down to ice. k

Ahhhhh, I did go back to sleep. Took my velcro ice thing they gave me in the hospital for the top of my knee and then took my homemade one, the one with the alcohol with 3x's the water mixture in two doubled up freezer bags in a flannel pillow case for under my knee and propped up on my FootSmart leg pillow wedge. The pain pills started to work and I did fall back asleep. Woke this morning to the homemade freezer slush melted and kind of wet from condensation I think. Good thing I had the extra pillow case and mattress pad on that leg pillow wedge and it was a little wet. So I handed the homemade slush to my husband and told him to take it out of the pillowcase so it would dry. I later came out to the kitchen and found he dumped out the mixture... Grrrr, what did he think that was. He said it smelled of alcohol. Really, lucky I have plenty of gel packs and my polar ice machine available to me. Not much on the list for me to do today, a couple loads of laundry. Sad though because our little town has a festival and a really nice craft show/sale and I love going to it. Not this year though, too early in the game and of course I could walk around the place and look, but I know my knee would scream at me if I did. So will just stay home and hoping my daughter and my grandson will show up sometime this weekend. Need my hugs and kisses.

I know things got a little off topic, but I appreciate it. I should not have been gone for a week! My husband and I finally just figured out for ourselves what would work but I did spend several evenings wondering if I could post here for advice on just this very topic. Trust me, there will be many who come after us with the same questions about when it's ok and how can we do this without hurting my knee?!

Good for you Cheryl, not sure why it would be a taboo subject, it shouldn't be and besides it will bring a smile to our faces. So any advice you are will to share...:loll:

I was wondering about asking the moderators for an "adults only" section, but then I can't imagine many teenagers trolling what must seem to them to be a "geezer" site for titillating sex info. I do think, if we could find a way to provide it without offending anyone or getting the BS site blocked by filters, it would be a service to suggest positions that seem to work for those recovering from surgery. For now, I guess the best way is to do personal messages. If you have suggestions or want to know what we decided on, that's probably the least offensive way to handle it. Unless the moderators object or have a better solution.

Cheryl, we really don't need an "adults only" section to discuss topics regarding resuming sex following joint replacement surgery. This is a normal part of life and a topic we have discussed a number of times here on BoneSmart. We even have articles in our BoneSmart Library regarding this topic. It can be discussed in a mature manner using terms that should not be offensive to anyone.

Actually, given what is taught in sex education classes in most of our schools today and what is seen on public movie screens and television, I doubt that anything we say would be particularly interesting to teens or those who are not seriously looking for information.

I appreciate that you are concerned about this topic on the forum, though. Of course, we will ensure that all posts stay within the framework of propriety. If you see something that you believe does not meet this goal, please let the staff know.

That is good that sex is not a taboo topic in here. There are younger and younger people getting joint replacements and it should be addressed. I had the same OS for my hip replacement and my knee replacement. At first I thought he was rather boring and poor bedside manner so to speak, but I knew he was good at what he did. With my RTHR I was 70 pounds heavier then I am now and I thought I better ask him about sex when I went for my 4 week check up and he laughed at me. Or maybe not at me, or maybe it was a nervous type laugh. Didn't know if it was like oh you are old and fat and are you really having sex yet. So I thought, ok, don't answer me and when we are ready we will try. Let me tell you, the first time after hip replacement I cried and my husband got all worried he hurt me, and I told him no, it was the first time in YEARS that it DIDN'T hurt. All those years that I put up with that stupid hip. If I could only make up for lost time now, where is that pool boy again???? Only kidding there. The knee I am figuring won't be so hard to deal with, just waiting for husband to feel better himself, that pinched nerve in his neck seems to put a damper on his mood. Oh, and the OS is much more casual about talking now, can joke with him. Have to get to know the person before passing judgement.
