Glad your husband talked to the pharmacist and he/she talked sense. At this stage I don't think I was up to anything that required thinking--I'm amazed you're able to do the books at all. I don't suppose they could wait a few days?

And you might take the vicodin with some food--crackers,milk-- if it bothers your stomach.

:loll:that is a good one kneeper. Don't think all the people we do business with and owe money would care what is going on with me, they just want their money. Talking with my therapist today, he gave me rules for going up to my office. No more then a half hour at a time. So I can do that. Will get my husband to help me get my knee elevated while I work up there too. He tells me I am territorial with my office books. Says he can do them, but guys, listen, when he use to do the books, if he was within a thousand bucks, he said that was good enough. That would be fine if the dairy industry was rolling in dough, but it isn't so I just have to learn to do the books in a different way.

Going to be a hard day today. My husband and I would like to go to a funeral visitation of our 30 year old sons really good friend that got killed in an ATV accident. We will try and go early to beat the crowd so to speak, and if there are a lot of people I am sure people would be good to let us butt in line. But my question is what I can wear. I have to still wear the compression stockings that are white. Would like to wear some dress slacks to cover up, but knee is still really swollen and not sure they will work. I don't have any big flare type skirts. I have some capris with a white pair that has a string opening that I could make larger around the knee, that might work. What would you wear? Seams like most of our outings right out of surgery have to just do with going to the doctor or physical therapy and it really doesn't matter what we are wearing. But what about those of you that go to church, or someplace else, what are you wearing?

I like your idea of capri's. I wore them a lot when I went back to work at 3 weeks after my original TKR. I wore comfortable shoes with no heal. In a situation like yours, if you are sitting through a service, try to sit at the end of the aisle on the left so you can stretch you eg out many times while seated.

Good luck today, will be thinking of you and your family!

Great accomplishment last night. I slept in bed all night. I used my Foot Smart leg wedge pillow and got myself nice and comfy. Had my husband put on a pair of socks for me and I grabbed an extra sheet and blanket to cover myself. You see I don't like the blankets coming over my feet and then pressing down on my toes which is what happens if you put that big wedge pillow on your bed. I only got up once to pee. I have to say that is the longest I have slept in many many months.

I can't have the covers pulling over my toes either! I untuck the bedding at the bottom of my side of the bed, and instead of turning the covers back top down, I turn them side to middle. During the day, when I have the covers all made up, I have a small down throw to use if I'm cold while I'm elevating and icing.

You know the little things can be big accomplishments. My husband has been helping me get my compression stockings on sense I have been home. I am a little more nimble this time with the knee replacement compared to having the hip replacement where he had to help for I think the whole time. I have been able to get my non operated ted on myself for about a week now. But this morning I did it, got my left one on by myself too. Also, stayed in bed all night last night except for one potty and pill break. Love the Foot Smart pillow/wedge. Makes laying on your back so much more tolerable. Looking forward to getting the staples out tomorrow, also have PT, so a busy day.

Good luck tomorrow and congrats on the little victory! As these things happen, celebrate and look forward to the next one!

Be well,

Dawn

Hi Debbie, i finally caught up with your posts and you seem to be progressing very well!:thumb: I have no idea how you are able to do your book keeping, for a good two weeks or more my eyes would cross and close at the sight of numbers and words! You are a Super woman and a Bionic woman all at the same time1:bow:

Stay well and go slow! My BoneSmartie friend!:friends:

Physical therapy and appointment with my surgeon. Therapist said I am almost right down flat with the table, so seeing I was always a 12 that is good, can only bend to 92, but he said I am getting better and he had me on three different machines today. It is work, but not too much force if you know what I mean. Told me to bring my cane for Thursday's appointment. Got my 24 staples out today. An intern, or nurse in training, or whatever she was took them out except for one that was stuck. I would say ouch and she would say she is sorry, so I teased her, no you aren't...LOL gotta joke with them. They probably hear enough complaining. Dr said I am doing really well with being able to bend to 92 and we talked about medication and how to try and go off. I have a big bottle of my prescription Tramadol from before surgery and he told me to go back and forth with that and the Vicodin making sure I have the Vicoden at night.

Then to top things off, my husband had to go to the doctor today too, thought it was a pulled muscle in his neck, but then said something about pain in his arm and I was worried about a blocked artery or something, so he checked out with just a pinched nerve and what does the doctor put him on besides some therapy...yep...Vicoden. So who the heck is going to drive now. My husband said he will save his for nighttime because he will just take something else during the day. Man, we are a bunch of druggies at our house.

Well, guess it is my turn to start this thread. Hospital called and I am very first one on the list for tomorrow (8/16/12). I don't know if that is good or not, not just because I am first on the list, but because I know my OS will be back from his vacation and I am wondering how he will be. You know, when you go back to work after vacation, you still have vacation brain. Hope he will have his head in the game. I know I will be able to joke with him about it. I am getting a Signature Personalized replacement by Biomet. MRI was taken and sent to Belgium and I guess they send back a template for where to cut or something like that. I am sure I missed something when it was explained to me. All I know it is suppose to be a better custom fit.

I still haven't packed yet. They have group therapy at our hospital where a half dozen people that have just had replacements get together and work out so need to not look too much like a slob. I think I am ready, I have done the pre surgery exercises and plus I have been doing my walking DVD since Jan and worked up to 5 miles a day and that took me 1 hour and 10 minutes a day 5 days a week. I know many are probably wondering how I can exercise if I need a knee replacement. Well, I put a big elastic sleeve with something that cups the kneecap. It seemed to keep everything in place. So I better get off the computer and get the rest of my office work done. I work from home. We have a dairy farm about 3 miles from our home in the country and I take care of all the books. I did everything I could up ahead of time. Banking online works great as I could get all the bills paid but with a date when I am in the hospital. Hoping the milk check will clear by then. So I won't be able to take weeks and weeks off, but I can work at my own pace too. See you all on the other side.
You are going to do great. Keep pain under control. heat/ice, can't drive till you're off narcs. Good Luck. Read the knee replacement stories,it's positive.

Debbie, congrats for getting your staples out today! I love playing with their heads like you did today too by saying, no you're not sorry! I said that to a PT girl when I had my last arthroscopic surgery, and she had such an evil smile on her face that it scared me, and I told her so, she chuckled. :heehee: It is fun to play with them!

You are doing great with your ROM so soon after you knee replacement! Go slow and you will win!

Sorry to hear about your hubby's neck pain, and for sure it is very scary! I'm glad that they determined it was a pinched nerve and are able to treat it with the same drug you're on! As they say "The family that drugs together, stays together!" Wait, some how that doesn't sound right! :heehee: Never mind! :loll:

Stay well Debbie and keep that sense of humor! :friends:

Oh you know how we all hear how we have to stay on top of the pain here and from our doctors and nurses. Well, I am only doing Vicodin and my prescription was only enough for a week at a time and I would start to panic when I was getting down to my last day, you know, worried that the doc would be out of the office and not be able to refill it. So I waited to today and told him that I need a refill and he was being really stingy with his drugs, he smiled at me and gave me two weeks worth...LOL So that combined with what my husband was given (one weeks worth) we could start a corner drug house....(only kidding there)

Wow I haven't had my surgery yet (8-30-12) and I have gotten my pain meds already for after surgery. He gave me 120 Percoset and 120 Dilaudid. If he gets stingy after that, I can go to my family doc and he will give me more. This is an extremely painful surgery, why are some docs so stingy??? I don't understand that! Hugs~

I can understand in some ways Nanners why they don't want to give you too many painkillers. But for me being less then two weeks out, you would think they would give me enough to get me through that first couple weeks of pain without having to worry about getting refills. I am just glad our niece isn't here anymore. We took in my husbands niece for 3 months this spring and she was a heroin addict and she got off that herself, but turned to booze instead. It can be so sad, such a smart girl. But we finally convinced her dad that she needed more help then we could give her and she did rehab for a month. Should have been way more, but at least she did that. Now seems to be doing ok. Just glad she isn't here and I don't have to hide my pain meds. Twice I found that she had went through my stuff. You know, when you are particular about how you have your over the counter meds I could tell she was looking. So I guess I understand why doctors don't want to give out too much at once.

LOL!!:rotfl: I had so many drugs left after being home and weaning of the narcs that my husband and I thought of opening a little stand, like a kool aid stand, at the end of the driveway! You see we now live in a 55+ community and we know there are a lot of baby boomers in pain! Hey, it could be a supplement to our retirement fund!:loll:To bad it's illegal!!:umm:

That is what I thought Jacky that the docs always seem to be throwing plenty of drugs at you. When my husband had one of his parathyroids taken out and then had a 13mm kidney stone they were giving him bottles of different pain medicine. So he had plenty of them left over and I thought that they would be giving me tons of Vicodin, no deal, week to week it seems. Maybe I look like a druggy though. Not sure what would do better, your kool aid drug stand, or maybe a viagra kool aid stand....:yes!:

Sounds like you are doing fantastic Debbie! I was around a 12 too and am also flat with the table so I know how wonderful that is to see!

Hmmm! Viagra! Hummmm!:umm:Maybe we could do a "His and Hers stand" and we'd see a lot more smiling and a lot less Sunday afternoon walking around here!:skep: I think it could work Deb!

LoL LOL, :rofsign: :rotfl: Thanks Jackie I needed a laugh. Now I have a side story that sounds like a joke but actually happened in a small town pharmacy.

One of my hubby's friends is always kidding around, and so when he went in to have a prescription filled for antibotics, he asked the pharmacist if you get Viagra over the counter. The pharmacist replied, I bet if I took two I could get it over the counter! Eddie almost died laughing! It was a pharmacist that was in his late 70's and Eddie has known him since he was a kid! That was the first time the joke was on Eddie!

Oh dear Sonja, you have got me in hysterics, i cant stop laughing, that was hilarious, thank you so much for the much needed laugh:rotfl:
