Oh dear Sonja, you have got me in hysterics, i cant stop laughing, that was hilarious, thank you so much for the much needed laugh:rotfl:

Thanks Cheryl!

Eddie is usually the one with the punch line, but he got "punched" that time!

All this talk about Viagra, I am wondering, I received a ringed binder with all the do's and don'ts for my knee replacement and in there it said that I have to ask my OS when I can have sex again. I can understand if you have a hip done, but a knee??? Guess they are worried about having a super orgasmic one that is a toe curler...hey, it might help get that knee extension down to zero though. :rotfl:

I asked my OS before I had my knees done, one of the questions on my pre-op list, and he said, when ever you want to. No limitations! It certainly would be helpful for flexion and extension that's for sure!:thumb: And, it doesn't hurt the psyche, to boot!:happydance:

The days are going by pretty quickly here, tomorrow 8/30 will be two weeks already. I think I am being a little selfish here, you know, how it is suppose to be "my" time. When I had my hip replaced last Dec. my husband (Dave) was really good waiting on me and helping me. With all the talk of the knee replacement being worse then the hip I thought well, he is good and will be very helpful. Don't get me wrong, he has been helpful, but I actually don't need as much help with the knee as I did with the hip. More painful with the knee, yes, but with the meds I have been able to do more for myself which is good I suppose. But here is the thing, my big tough farmer of a husband never complains about anything like pain. Will work through anything. Had a half inch kidney stone and only thought it was a gut ache type of guy. Well, he pinched a nerve in his neck/shoulder area and he is hurting. I know he is hurting as he is walking around with a scowl on his face all the time and having to ice and will be going to PT starting tomorrow. So why am I jealous, this is suppose to be my time. Isn't that just stupid. I am ashamed of myself as his mom, 88 years old, calls and is all concerned over Dave but doesn't seem to worry about me. Maybe it is just the blues or something. Guess I think my man is not suppose to hurt, but when he hurts I don't get that little extra attention I was hoping for. I know, slap me upside the head, so far for me, things are good so I better shut up.

Your m-i-l probably thinks of you as the family caregiver and of her son as the breadwinner; she probably feels that women are used to handling pain and not only taking care of ourselves but others while we are in pain, but that men (especially her baby, which your husband still is) aren't. She's probably projecting her own stoicism on to you. I wonder if she might try to be stoic herself in times of pain and illness and thereby endanger her own health. I've learned that a sure sign of trouble is the phrase "I don't want to be a bother." Who cares for the caregivers?

Yes, it is supposed to be your time, but sadly, injuries and illnesses doesn't always take numbers and wait their turn. Sounds like it's time to call in some favors from friends & neighbors, or see if you can hire a part-time temp to do the things neither of you can safely do for yourselves.

Count your blessings, Deb. My hubby is not able to help me--would if he could and maybe after he gets his knees replaced he'll be able to. I went through a hip replacement and the two knees and waited on myself and on him and the cats--as a matter of fact I don't think I've been waited on for the past 5 years. My parents and his parents are deceased and the grown children all work or have no transportation. But to tell you the truth I think it helped my recoveries to have to be up and doing---though I was careful not to do too much on any one day---I did pace myself.

Take care---he'll be back to his old self soon.

It's okay Debbie, we need attention after major surgery like this. Probably because you recently went through the hip surgery not long ago, everyone thinks you are tough and will sail through the knee. And yes, it may be the blues kicking in. Hang in there, I feel your pain.

With this revision, I set everyone's expectation that pain and recovery would be similar to the TKR, and that I would need the same level of help. Day of surgery, had to remind my hubby I needed him to bring up my crutches and get the toilet seat set up, etc, ec. I had been reminding him for 3 weeks. Thankfully except for the first three days, I have felt pretty good, and have needed very little help.

Be well,

Dawn

Catching up with the thread. I love all the remarks about sex. I don't think I've seen that topic on here! In another thread we were talking about PTs learning the bonesmart approach. I think if we connect sex with good extension and flexion, we'll be able to market the bonesmart approach no problem!

Is there a chart for that? ROM requirements for different approaches to sex? Stick figures with the pain scale happy faces? It could be very relevant! We need this in the library!

:loll:LOVE this talk. I mean we all come on here and talk about constipation and pooping, so why not have some fun and talk about sex too. Maybe the general majority of people think that just because you need a joint replacement you must be old and old people don't have sex. I have to laugh at the commercial that is on locally in our area for my little town hospital and their advancement with hip and knee replacements. It shows a couples children knocking at the door telling each other that it is a certain day and are expected and then in the other room the parents shsssing each other and sneaking out the back door to go play golf. It should be catching the parents in bed as anything is possible after a joint replacement. :iagree:

ROFLMAO!!!!! Oh, that made my day!!

Hope your recover is going well. What is your rom? I'm still struggling even after the MUA.

C flower, when was your MUA again? What were you "on the table"? The next day? Now?

It can be very slow. I think after weeks of the knee not bending the muscles take time to lengthen. Any progress is a good sign. Even one degree a week over 30 weeks is 30 degrees. It took me two months after arthrolysis of adhesions to get to 100 from 85 post procedure. Now I'm 120 or more.

Well Janet, it is a well known fact that sex produces endorphins, the feel good natural drug!

Janet, this has given me an idea. I think I will ask my stick in the mud OS if I can have sex!!! I will tell him his little booklet that he gave me that was written for fifth graders told me to ask him if it is okay. I think the look on his face will be worth it!!! K

Well, yes, good plan. If he then looks at his watch and says "Well it's 20 minutes until my next patient, that should be OK." then I think the look on your face might be worth it, too.
