THR Cpollock Surgery June 19, 2017<

Her Cheryl...we are all going to have family members in the hospital. Oh my stars, can't catch a break.
Sending best wishes.

Sending positive thoughts your way. It sounds like a pretty tough couple of days for you. Make sure to take care of yourself through all this as you definitely don't want to slide backwards with your recovery. I pray you have good news about your mom and that she will be ok. Just hang in there and don't worry about posting until things calm down and you get some much needed rest.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. They worked. My Mom is now home. Her sodium levels were low and they figure this is what caused the chest pain. The internist adjusted her medications and took her off the water pill too. This brought the level back up and the chest pain subsided. This morning she had to have an echo test and she will also be booked in for a cardiolight test soon too. They will be thorough and check it all. She does have an appointment for September 11th to see a specialist for her leg veins to check for blockage but that was set up before all this happened this week. I've spent hours by mom's side and have played out but did sleep good last night. Mom is doing ok now and glad to be home. I'm just waiting now for my grandson Noah, he's coming for a sleepover. He's 6 and such a joy. It was The end of May the last time he's stayed over though he's been to visit a few times. I will check in a little later with my post op Dr appointment update. Thank you again for your support. Cheryl

@cpollock
Well PTL as this is good news!
Hopefully your mom checks out well in all other areas with her upcoming appointments.
You must be tired from the stress of worrying about your mom coupled with your own recovery. Hopefully you can get some good rest this weekend now that things have calmed down.

As others, I would love to hear about your post op visit, Cheryl. I know you were anxious for it. Hopefully you heard all you were wishing to hear.
Take care for now....

@cpollock Cheryl, such good news re your mother! I am glad they pinpointed what it was right away, and fixed it right away, and then, blessedly, sent her home. I'm glad you were able to sleep well, and now on to the grandson sleepover whew! I hope he goes to sleep at a reasonable hour

HI everyone, I'm sitting in my recliner and Noah in the other recliner watching cars 3 on Kodi. We had homemade hamburgers and fresh corn on the cob for supper. He's now having a chocolate ice cream cone.
So, on Wednesday morning I went to PT first. I was told another week with the walker yet but could use the cane around the house. I was told that until I can walk with the cane with no limp I will be using the walker. I only have a slight limp with the cane. Then I went for an x-ray for my meeting with the OS. I had some time til my OS appointment and located my Mom who was admitted to the hospital. Anyways, it turns out there was a mixup with who I was to see. I was told see Dr Riaz who did my surgery but somehow I was booked into Dr Jena's ortho clinic. That was a screw up made by the discharging nurse after my surgery. Dr Jena didn't mind seeing me but I've been booked in to see Dr Riaz for August 25th. Dr Jena used to do hip surgeries but the last few years he just does knees and shoulders. He examined me and twisted my leg here and there and asked if this or that hurt and it didn't. My x-ray looked great. He looked at my incision and answered what questions he could for me. No swimming til 3 months post op and same for dental work. He said how follow PTs recommendation for walker use. He doesn't know what my implant is made of, will have to ask my OS. He thinks my OS may restrict for life on 90 degree rule, he's very strict. I was told I can sleep on my operated side no problem but to still keep a pillow between my knees for now. He said I might not ever be able to tie my shoes which I didn't like. He said no massage yet that I'm still too tender. Sex is OK, just to watch the 90 degree rules and careful with abduction on operated leg, hehe. I had a couple other questions he said I'd have to ask my OS so I'll do that August 25th when I see him. So, I checked out really good and he said still early days. He said I can apply vasoline on the incision and to jiggle it daily a couple times. So all is good, I just have to be patient and let my body heal. And I really didn't care for the possibility of a 90 degree rule for life. Now back to the movie..... I will check in on you all as soon as I can and I wish you well. Cheryl

Sounds like all good news today, Cheryl @cpollock
Your mom seems to be doing well. You had a good post op visit and you have a beloved overnight guest!

Well the walker will soon be history, I know you've been excited for that. Next the cane will go. As he mentioned you are still early in your recovery. I don't understand the possibility of the 90 degree restriction for life, I suppose you'd get used to it like anything else though. Same with shoes. If you can't ever tie your shoes again you'll save yourself time, try to look at it that way. There are so many cute slip on shoes and boots these days you'd probably never miss ties. You can even buy athletic shoes now that are slip on with stretch ties instead of shoe strings. They look totally normal. All in all it sounds like a good day for you. I hope you have a restful nights sleep. Continued healing and a great weekend to you!

Thank you @Layla for your kindness. I am doing well, especially since my mom is home and the stress dropped off. I just heading to bed now, sure enjoyed the evening with Noah. He's so good when he's here, he chatters away, hehe. Cheryl

@cpollock I read and rated you earlier but can say a few now... I am so glad your grandkid came over sounds like perfect medicine. Prayers still on Mom but she sounds fine as frog's hair :froggies:

I would not like some of your report as in not being able to tie shoes but that could be an incorrect assessment at this point.

Cheryl @cpollock That sounds like a great day all around! I hope you also got some chocolate ice cream....

I hope that you'll hear differently about your "lifetime restrictions" on the 25th. Somebody who was around when I had my first hip done was fond of wearing strapped shoes, and was told she couldn't wear them if they actually had to be fastened, as she must never bend that way. I won't swear to it, but I think she pretended she hadn't heard that one!

Only a short time left on the walker, and then your grandson will start bowling you over:shocked:I carried my cane long after I didn't need it for actual walking, just to signal to people that I might whack them with it if they crossed me LOL.

Thank you @MyAussieGirl for your prayers for my Mom, I also send them your way. Boomerang!!! Noah has been lifting my spirits, he comes out with the funniest things. He's just finishing up his chicken soup and maybe we will go to the park. He needs to run around and get rid of some energy. I'm keeping him another night. He crawled into my bed with me at 7 this morning and we chat a bit then up we got.
No ice cream for me, had a little popcorn last night instead. @zauberflote I sure hope I don't have lifetime restrictions, guess we will see on the 25th and go from there. I've been using the cane costly around the house, I'm so tired of the walker. I always seem to have something to carry too.
Today is a better day all around. I called mom and she's feeling ok and going to bake a banana loaf, good sign there. My hip feels ok, still limp if I don't use an aid but it's getting better a little each day. I still have a month off yet, I go back to work on September 6th. I will be so much better by then for sure. I wish you all well. Cheryl

@cpollock i glad your having a good day. Grand kids will do that. Ours haven't stayed over for months, not even sure if they will before it's back to school. Bummer! I'd take not being able to ever tie your shoes with a grain of salt. Good news about your mom. Nothing wrong with banana loaf :ok:
Good to here you'll be moving to a Cain. I've gotten to where if a store doesn't have a electric cart I shy away.
Only get so many steps in a day and I want to use them wisely. Not on a trek all over the store looking for bread crumbs for dinner.

Thanks @Gone again I will take the tying shoes bit with a grain of salt. At the moment mine are all slip on anyways but still..... I'm just glad to get rid of the OA pain, that was the reason for this surgery and could tye my shoes for the last couple years anyway.

@cpollock so happy Noah stayed longer...yummy banana bread. Girl you're doing way better. I am happy for you ... I feel doctor may have said that but these things they sometimes over state we shall see ... I too would be upset but my doctor told me not everything applies to everyone ...As my OS kisses me on the noggin I will go with his information.

I got our be lottery ticket...private Bone bud jet here we come. YAYYY

I do not know Boss Baby but get off the net and enjoy your grandkid Hugs

I've not heard of lifetime restrictions but like you said, see what the OS says when you see him. Sometimes I think they says those things just to cover their butts if something happens. I had anterior so no restrictions from day 1 other than the bungee jumping everyone mentions. I thought I read somewhere or someone told me that some OS surgeons who do posterior don't impose that 90 degree rule any more but I forget where I read it. You could always look in the BS library for into on that. There must be something there. I, too, was told to use cane until I could walk without a limp when not using it. It may take you a while but look at the positive side - it doesn't hurt to walk any more!!

It sounds like a perfect weekend with your grandson there. Just what the doctor ordered as the saying goes! They sure do lift our spirits, that is for sure. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and it sounds like your recovery is going very well.

Hi Cheryl! I'm so glad your mom is doing better. Your little house guest sounds adorable. Six is such a great age. I'm sure he is lifting your spirits, and that he's having a great time. Hang in there with the walker. It sounds like, despite the mix up, you had a very good experience with the other doctor. Hopefully your surgeon can shed a little light on some of your questions when you see him. Thinking of you.
Michele
