THR Cpollock Surgery June 19, 2017<

@cpollock Great question about alcohol! We're going to be on vacation just after my 6 week restrictions are lifted... I'm hoping to only be on tylenol at that point too... No more aspirin/blood thinning at that point. I was wondering the same thing... would love to enjoy a little wine with dinner.

I hope it's happy @MyAussieGirl I will do my best to make it so, hehe. I may have a glass of wine and see what happens. I was just curious if anyone else indulged. I'm too unstable yet to get tipsy so I wouldn't have more than 1 or 2. I'm not on blood thinners anymore or tramadol, I was on lovenox needles til July 9th. @313Lola I will ask our expert and see what she says. Maybe it's too early yet. @Josephine? Would it be okay to have a couple glasses of wine or Beers?

So glad to hear your recovery story . Gives me a lot of hope . I have many days, when I wish my surgery was tomorrow . I will not see "hip" doctor until Sept 8th . Before that, we are going to Europe on a cruise (can't get out of it ). I am going to avail myself of wheelchair assistance in the airport ,and we have a transport w/c I used for my Mom ,we will bring that along .
So glad you are on the recovery road ,and doing what is being preached ice and rest .Soon you will probably start
PT and have a new lease on life.
Keep healing

Happy Anniversary. I would think if you arent on any pain meds, you deserve a few drinks...thing is, not too many. No falling down and going boom!!!

Happy Anniversary, Cheryl!
@cpollock

I had a glass of wine with dinner the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm not on any meds other than one more day of aspirin as blood clot protocol.
I don't see it as a problem......maybe others can weigh in on the pro's or con's.....
Cheers  :martini:

I hope you have a happy anniversary, Cheryl! I hope it turns out to be a relaxing, happy day!!

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm not a big drinker either but will have some wine or beer sometimes on special occasions especially. My husband tends to have more than a few though. I will be careful if I decide to indulge and only have 1 or 2. Cheers. Cheryl

Cheryl happy anniversary I'll somtimes have a glass of wine before bed. Helps me wind down.

Hi @cpollock how are your knees doing, have they improved? Saw OS and asked about valgus knees issues from hip OA (will have to update my thread soon). He prescribed PT and said it won't fix a valgus knee but could reduce it's appearance, said give it more time to realign. Fortunately there's no knee OA.

He suspects in my case that knees turned inward from the bad hips, maybe a muscular and soft tissue issue. Was thinking of getting some medial wedges for my shoes, saw this rec by an online OS no less! Not sure if it's a good idea to mess around with alignment soon after two thrs but I miss my straight legs!

Hope this info helps, will be interesting to compare notes with your OS's advice.

Hope you had a nice anniversary dinner :)

HI @Horseshoe my bowed out leg has straightened a fair bit compared to the first couple weeks but still not straight. PT figures it is due to the OA and once my leg is strengthened it will straighten out more. I see my OS on Wednesday so I will ask him then. Thank you for the update. I wish you well. Cheryl

HI all, I think it's day 39 for me now. It will be exactly 6 weeks out Monday I do know that. My original surgery Date was for Monday July 31sr and here I will be 6 weeks post op. I was so blessed with the early date. I've had a few milestones that I'm grateful for. It's easy to dwell on the things I'm still unable to do but I try to stay positive and PATIENT, hehe. I get less dependent each day and have just put a call into the surgeon's office to see when I can drive. He said 6 weeks but I wonder if I could start today, if it's close enough. I don't see the surgeon til Wednesday. My hip area is sore and tender but nothing that needs a painkiller. I'm getting company this afternoon, my Auntie is coming and bringing my Mom too. I have a bunch of bran muffins my husband made with the recipe on bonesmart so we can have some with tea and coffee. My husband is going to town to get a few groceries. I'm not sure but we will probably go out for supper for our anniversary this evening. No plans that I know of but I know neither of us is cooking. I hope you are all doing well. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl @cpollock
You asked me elsewhere how I'm doing but thought I'd answer you here as I read your post. I'm doing well.
Going to PT even though I don't really like it. Noticed my good leg was unusually fatigued in PT yesterday....possibly because it's been carrying the load of my other leg for so long. It's rebelling!
I still have a minor limp I'm working on. Basically relearning how to walk heel to toe, really concentrating as you suggested a while back. My PT emphasized it also. It's going to take concentration to correct it.

Nice to hear your doing so well. Six weeks almost.....wow! Time flies when we're having fun, haha!
I hope you have a nice visit with your mom and aunt this afternoon. Also a relaxing anniversary dinner with your husband this evening.

Hope you get the okay to drive again. I just started driving myself this week. Practiced in the neighborhood like a 16 yr old making sure I was comfortable moving my foot back and forth from gas to brake and hitting the brake pedal......I passed!!
After the second trip I made to PT it felt 100% normal to be behind the wheel again. FREEDOM!

Wishing you a great weekend and a happy anniversary!

Hi @cpollock !! I am not in here every day...wanted to wish you A Happy Anniversary ...congrats on your 6 weeks coming up!!! I am 5 weeks today!! You are doing great girlfriend!! Every week is another step towards getting better & better!! I think we are only 4 days apart on our surgeries!! my birthday was June 19th !! I had my surgery 6/23..doing good! Walking 4xday...20 minutes each walk and some PT strength exercises in between..every 2 hours I try move..doing light housework and laundry...meals and cleaning...I have been out to dinner and some shopping!I purchased a fitbit so now I clock my daily steps ...I set a goal and try to go beyond...it really pushes me I love it !!! I am still on my back...I could try my non operated side but I am still a little scared...how are you sleeping??? I go for my post op Aug 8 and cant wait to get the ok to drive...outpatient PT couldn't get me in till Aug 1...so I am on my own till then...just aspirin 2x day...tramadol at bed that's it...should come off aspirin at post op ..I am so used to what I am doing on my own...hoping when I start PT I am not in pain yikes!!!! So happy you are coming along...it is so amazing how every week we are able to do more and enjoy our friends and family visiting! Yiubare doing great at your own pace...keep it up! It can only get better from here on in!! Hugs to you !!! ❤❤❤

Thank you for your positive comments @Donnarita you sound great yourself with your progress, awesome. I sleep Ok but most nights with the help of a sleeping pill. I start with a half and that's OK but if I'm still awake in a half hour I take another half. I'll continue this for another week or 2 then see if I can stop. I sleep on my operated side with a pillow between my legs right down to my ankle so. Physio said to use a long pillow or 2 pillows. I seen to sometimes get uncomfortable then how on my back then my side again, depends. I keep the pillow between my legs when I roll back to my side. Hugs back to you. Cheryl

HI @Layla you sound really good. PT does work our muscles even on the good leg. Mine is noticed the same thing so did not exercises the next 2 days other than the gentle ones I been doing the last few weeks. I will try my few new ones tomorrow and see hospital it feels, I listen to my body. I don't tend to limp with a walking side but do with none so not quite ready to go without yet. I was in bad shape for a few years and especially the last year was awful so I can't expect to be parading around already, hehe. We will all get there. My visit today was great, i enjoyed the company and laughs. Sad to say no anniversary dinner, husband out of sorts. I wish you well. Cheryl
