Good to here your progressing. My incision is looking good except for the excess glue along it.
Follow the Doctors orders on the walker to be safe.
Bill

@Layla. Thank you for responding and also sharing an update on yourself. I haven't seen my OS since I was discharged on day 2. I see him August 2nd for my 6 week checkup. I've gone to physio 3 times now and that started at week 2. The few exercises they give me are very gentle and she makes sure I do them in proper form. This last time I walked from the parking lot all through the hospital to physio which was quite a ways and then all the way back. It is great to dress and put a little make up on. It feels like I'm returning back to myself. I wish you well. Cheryl

@Gone again I also still have a little glue left on me. Most is gone but a few stubborn spots. And yes I'm using the walker as I'm told. Following the order not to rush and push things. I'm still tired and run out of energy quick. I wish you well. Cheryl

@Layla Just saw that your Dr appt is today. Makeup! Normal clothes! Riding in a car! Woohoo!

It will feel so good to do normal things. Take care afterward... rest as needed. I was pooped after my appt

Looking forward to reading your update later. Take care!

Day 31...... I can't believe how time has passed by. I'm sore on the incision area but I know I will be for a while. All part of healing. I'm doing walking around the house quite a it. I live in a hamlet and our driveway is gravel so no walking outside. Our streets are paved but rough with stones so not great for the walker. We live about 25 minutes from town so going to the mall or something that often is not happening. Maybe tomorrow. Gary is busy today doing vacuuming and washing floors and things. It's very hot here and it will be for the long term yet. I have to admit I'm bored and finding it difficult with my limited mobility and being confined to the house. I've been doing my gentle stretches and being conscious of making sure I use my operated leg equally. It sure is weak compared to my other leg. I'm hoping to see more improvement so I can go to the cane. It won't even be considered til July 31st which really isn't that far away. Another 11 days. Then I can drive as well and get some independence back. Keeping my eye on the prize. I hope you're all doing well. Cheryl

Very hot here too Cheryl. Other than a very short walk to the mailbox this morning, i am hiding inside... Bored. Unmotivated.

Wishing recovery would be measured in weeks, not months.

Sigh... I still haven't got behind the wheel even though i was cleared last wk. I have just been too nervous. But tomorrow is the day. I made an appt for a manicure. 10 min drive each way and 45 minutes sitting. I should be able to handle that.

Hope you can get out a little too, stir crazy stinks!

Take care.

Cheryl, I'm not sure if it was you or not but I thought you mentioned knitting. That is a fantastic way to pass the time plus you are creating something - maybe for Christmas gifts?? Also reading is good as well. I was back at my sewing machine after about a week and that helped me so much. I was fortunate that I never did actually get bored as I had more projects lined up than recovery time.

I thought of one more thing you might want to do and that is write a note to your little grandson. I think you said he is 6 and he might be thrilled to actually get "mail." I did that with all my grandkids because none lived nearby. I'd write a note - just a couple lines - and print out a couple knock knock jokes for kids off the computer or a follow the dots picture and send it off. I'd only see some of the once or twice a year but when I did, it was like I saw them yesterday and it was because of my letters to them. Almost all kids love to get mail. Just a thought as you probably have enough ideas of your own but it isn't always easy to get motivated to jump into them! I hope you are having a good day.

That's great you were cleared to drive @313Lola I have a little over a week to go yet. My husband took me for a drive yesterday and went to the casino a short time then ice cream.

I'm having a better day today @GrannyC and thank you so much for the wonderful ideas. I especially love the one about writing to my grandson. I will put some money in the letter so he can buy a treat. I'm hoping next month he can come for a sleep over and start to come regular again. He lives 25 minutes away and he used to come every 2nd weekend for a night and sometimes 2 nights. My granddaughter Everleigh is 1 so probably fall before she can come but we'll see how I progress.

You are doing awesome @Donnarita I have my hair done, had my shower earlier and my husband is taking me to the Canex store down the road here. We live outside a base where I work so that's the only store but it has pretty much everything. I have a bellabeat leaf that tracks my sleep and steps. I wear it as a necklace.

I wish you all well. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl! I'm glad you were able to get out some. Cabin fever certainly is real! It's amazing how much better you feel being out and about for a bit. And how tired! A good friend took me to the teacher supply store today. It's about an hour from home and she was worried about my driving that far-very sweet! I found a couple things that I needed for my classroom, so that was a positive. Hang in there, and I hope you are feeling better every day!

That's great you got out too @Cisne once I'm more mobile in the house I will be better about things. I seem to start things and get tired or run into problems like dropping things and have to stop then my husband has to finish what I started. I have the knitting out and working on that. And GrannyC offered a couple suggestions too. And it's only a little over a week til I can drive then I will have more independence back. I'm fine today.

I'll be glad when you can drive. I do that dropping stuff too....still, I have grabbers in most rooms ... still some things are too heavy then it's bug hubby. We love to go out a lot even the library or a ride. I can't stand to stay in. I wish you lived closer ...Huge hugs

It's hard yo believe that 5 weeks ago today I was on my way to the hospital for surgery. Time has gone by so fast but at the same time slow if that makes sense. I guess it's hard some days to be patient with my progress even though I have come a long ways. I'm sleeping better and feel stronger each day. I still am mandated to use the walker for another week though I can use the cane. I use it around the house occasionally. I'm not sure if it's because how bad a shape I was in prior to surgery but I limp horribly trying to take steps without an aid. I keep testing it though and can feel my leg is improving so baby steps. It will come, just need to be patient. I go to physio this afternoon. I'm heading for a shower now. I hope you're all doing well. Cheryl

Hi @cpollock !! You sound like you are progressing well!! I am almost at 5 week Mark also!! Its amazing how far we have come and I am so happy to walk and not feel that bone pain of limp anymore! Every morning is a blessing to wake up and know i don't have to deal with that pain...I just wanted to check in with you !!! Its only 5 weeks so imagine in months to come how great We will be doing!! Keep up the great recovery my bone smartie pal!!!have an awesome day!! Hugs to you !!

@cpollock How is Cheryl today? Aren't you around 5-weeks now. How is the PT going?

My physical therapist and I found out that even though I had my right hip replaced, my balance was better on my right leg than my left.
So we set about strengthening my lower legs, especially the ankles.
I practice standing on one leg for 30-60 seconds several times/week. I change the length, I get bored easily.
The balance is close now, but my right leg is still better?! The therapist also showed me a resistance exercise for my ankles.
I always practice standing on one leg near the bar, so I can see the timer on my phone. I had a cat that kept trying to bonk me and get up on my shoulders the whole time today. It is hard to balance while laughing at a cat.

Thank you @Donnarita for your message. We certainly are progressing and yes it's nice to have that bone on bone pain gone. That's huge. I still limp though and still need an aid to get around. One day at a time.

PT is going good @dougie0216 I just got home from there. I was told to use the walker yet til next Wednesday and we will see then how I am. They moved my appointment from Monday to Wednesday at 9 because I see the OS at 10 and that way I just need to make 1 trip. I live a half hour away and both appointments are at the hospital. I climbed stairs at PT today and we did a couple new exercises. My glutes are weak and quite tight so I'm to do a specific exercise to target that. Also when I walk I'm to take larger strides. She watched me with the cane and said I can use it around the house some now but to keep up with the walker til next Wednesday yet. My OA was at the severe stage and it's just going to take a little more time and to hang in there. I'm to use heat a couple times a day now and I can apply arnica gel, just not too close to the incision.
I wish you all well. Cheryl

@cpollock Happy 5 week birthday to you and your hip! It's sounds like you are making excellent progress! Arnica does a wonderful job with soreness-im a fan! Just a couple more days until the appointment, and then maybe cane full time? It certainly makes things easier having a hand free. I've been walking without mine the last couple days, but the limp seems persistent and I suspect I'll be returning to school with it. I'll look forward to hearing about your appointment !
