Maybe pizza for dinner again tonight?? :heehee:

Hi Cheryl! Thanks for the positive note on my thread. I hope you are having a good day. It sounds like the family visits have been the best medicine! Did you find time to work on your knitting? I've been doing a little knitting, and love how it helps the time pass. Right now I'm working on a mini-Christmas stocking-such fun. That said, there are many projects "marinating" on the needles. What do you enjoy knitting best? I love socks, but like knitting most anything. Take care,
Michele

@Cisne yes family visits are great and certainly lifted my spirits. Today is my mom's 78th birthday and we are heading to her house for cake soon. It's a 20 minute car ride from my house. My husband baked a cake and my sons and their families will be there and my brother. It's a smaller house and I'm concerned about getting around with my walker but I will be in good hands. Probably stay an hour and come home. I'm a very basic knitter and prefer scarves and things easy. I've never tried socks. I find it relaxing. I used to knit slippers years ago. Have a good evening. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,
Just wanted to say Hi. Hope you're doing okay. Seems like you've been away a bit, hope it's because you're recovery is going so well its allowing you to be more active.
A great evening to you!

@cpollock Cheryl how's it going. I'm to the point of leaving the walker behind for little walks. Especially in the kitchen. I find pulling my butt in and standing really straight helps a bunch.happy birthday to your mom. How was the cake? I miss cake:boohoo:

@Layla HI back. Thanks know you for thinking of me. Yesterday I felt pretty good and my husband do went for groceries and he dropped me off at the casino while he shopped. It was about 2 hours and I enjoyed myself. It was maybe a bit much but I managed. The washrooms are good for me to use and I had a perfect chair playing jungle vip. Today I'm really tender on the side of my hip and have been doing walking. Cheryl

You are progressing faster than me @Gone again I'm working on my walks but I'm not there yet to go without the walker. The cake was really good at my mom's birthday. My husband do made a carrot cake and my Dad bought a coconut cream cake at Costco.
I hope to get a better sleep tonight, last night I was up twice and the 2nd time had a hard time getting back to sleep. Cheryl

@cpollock like you often when I wake I can't get back to sleep or it takes forever. You have my prayers and thoughts on that as I know it can zap us.

I am still healing from the tummy bug or food posiening but you're right on stress being able to do that too and I sure have had mine.

Sleep well my friend.

I did have a better sleep last night, your prayers maybe helped. How is your recovery with your tummy Bug? I hope you're on the mend. I wish you well. Cheryl

Update day 26 I had a pretty good sleep last night so feel OK this morning. My hip is sore and swollen but not getting any worse. Physio will show me how to massage it on Monday to prevent adhesions. I'm walking a little better each day but it's surgeons rules to use it til 6 weeks out and same with driving. These 26 days have gone by kinda fast so what's another 16. I do take a few steps here and there around the kitchen. My leg is not strong but is improving. I've been managing on my own since Wednesday afternoon, my husband seems to have needed a break and has left me to fend for myself and still has. I was yelled at and he went to the shop in the garage. So that's caused a bit of a pity party for me yesterday but I'm OK now, it passed. I'm doing okay. I will continue walking more today and am going to read and maybe knit. I hope everyone is doing good. I wish you well. Cheryl

Thinking of you and glad that you are getting stronger everyday. I think your plan to read and knit sounds like a good one. The mental part of this recovery can be as hard as the physical in some ways.

By this time you should be just find fending for yourself. Even using the walker, you can do most things for yourself, including meals. It just may take a bit longer. I think becoming a bit less dependent and more independent is good for us mentally as well as physically. I thought it seemed great to be able to do things for myself and was pretty proud of myself for each new accomplishment. The knitting and reading are great things to pass the time. They are both relaxing and can be constructive as well. I was lucky to never get bored as I had more projects lined up than I had recovery time.

I think the recovery is very stressful for our caregivers as well. They may not have the healing to deal with but they have huge amounts of concern and worry along with trying to stay upbeat and care for us so we need to give them a break at times, too. And I imagine they get pretty tired with the extra stress and work. To us it seems like they have the easy part but I don't think that is how it feels to them.

I was told not to give up walking aids until I could walk without a limp. The length of time for that to happen seems to vary a lot from one person to the next.

I'm glad your pity party didn't last long. Soon you will be back to your old non hurting self!

Cheryl, I agree, time is going by fast. I'm surprised, so is my husband who's been my main caregiver.

I've been preparing meals myself just as @GrannyC suggested. First one being scrambled eggs, sausage and toast. Was pretty proud of myself doing something I once could do in my sleep. Yesterday's dinner a little more involved as I cut up many veggies as part of the meal. A measure of fear involved this time as I figure my blood is thinner and I don't want any cuts!

My husband was a saint the first week and a half. I made sure he got out and away most every day beginning a couple days after surgery. He has obliged me and it's been good for us both. I rest, he recharges. I do think it's way more difficult for the caregiver, possibly taking on tasks they're not that familiar with......prepping meals, doing a load of laundry, trying to keep the house clean enough. These are things men can obviously do but I'm sure most prefer not to.

I guess Pity Parties are allowed at this stage as long as we don't linger. Allow yourself a measure of time then say
"Check Please" and try and move on. Works for me....but we're all different. It's probably what makes this site appealing. Different advice, ideas and words of encouragement.

I hope today is better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today!

Thank you for your kind opinion @GrannyC I came to the same conclusions myself. The pity party was probably part of the Blues we can go through. I was stunned when I was yelled at then was completely left on my own but I'm OK now. It started Wednesday when I asked Gary what was wrong because he was so miserable and impatient. He said it was because of me and to leave him alone. Then I never seen him til the next day and he wouldn't even look at me. I went to the shop to try and talk to him and he was drunk. Today I tried talking to him again when he come out of the spare room and he's gone back to the shop. I won't try anymore.... I will be fine. I suppose being a caregiver was too much for him. Cheryl

Thank you @Layla I agree with your outlook. I work full time and will another 4 years. Gary is retired and generally looks after some of the main household stuff and meals when I work. He's very competent that way. Now with me home and recovering it's added stress.

That's understandable, Cheryl. I think our caregivers, especially if it's a partner, someone we're living with, want their life back just as much as we do. Frankly, I can't wait until I can vacuum, dust, do laundry and all else in the way I was accustomed. I'm OVER THIS.....haha!

Just read your last post so this is an edit:
I'm so sorry your husband allowed his frustration
to build to the point it has. Maybe just allowing him some time to himself and trying to be as self sufficient as possible will resolve all. This is a stressful time, your life's been turned somewhat topsy turvy, it will get better soon.....lets pray to that end. Sending a hug!
