I agree,
right now the plan is to go back on the 28th but only 1/2 time and I will be 1/2 time for 2 weeks. BUT my doc will support whatever plan I want.
I went back full time at 9 weeks after my ltkr and it was BRUTAL no way to "work out" and go to work.
thanks for your support!

It has been 2 weeks since I posted - the day after my last post I had taken my old dog to the vet as she was not "eating" as well as she normally did. 5 days later she was gone - a very aggressive cancer.
I have been plugging away on my recovery but just didn't feel like being (in all honesty) supportive - so I just stayed away.
But as things are starting to return to normal - I figured it was time for an update - this past week has been the break through I have been waiting for and I KNEW was coming.
Sunday the 20th I attended Cavalia with my Mom, aunt and Uncle - I was good for the walking and the stairs but OH MY did I under estimate the sitting in close quarters - I did it! but it was a challenge.
Monday at PT - even though I had pretty big day before my knee was in pretty good shape and since the goal is to start back 1/2 time 1 week later I decided that it was time to see if my "fussy" right knee was ready to start some structured walking. So I started on Tuesday - with .25 miles on my treadmill / 20 min on the bike and to my surprise, it felt great. On wed at PT along with my regular work out I walked .5 miles and at 3.2 mph and It felt great!!!!!
Thursday at home I walked .75! and on Friday at PT 1 mile and at 3.4 - it felt AWESOME.
I'm feeling good about going to work on Monday - 1/2 time for 2 weeks then full time for 1 week but that week I need to take a furlough day and I can break it up into 2 - 1/2 days. Then I will be off work for 2 weeks at xmas.
NOW to catch up on some threads! 2 weeks is a lot of catching up to do. I need to find Niki's update!!
glad to be back

So sorry to hear you have lost your faithful friend - that's so hard to deal with at the best of times, and even more so when you are recovering from major surgery.

But your knee is obviously doing brilliantly! Good luck with going back to work.

I am sorry for the loss of your dear pet, they are truly part of the family and their loss can be very difficult. :console:

Your breakthrough sounds amazing though! Good luck with work!

Catherine,
We've missed you! I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pet. I know how difficult that is. :console:Both times that I've gone through that I've sworn that I will never get another pet because it's so hard. Truly they are family members. But then I miss having that doggie around and always wind up doing it again! The love of a dog is just hard to explain!

Your knee!! My goodness, you are doing awesome!! Such a great boost right when you are about to go back to work. I think you are well on your way to being "normal" again! So happy you had your breakthrough moment. I was just telling my PT this morning that I really can't imagine my knee ever feeling normal again. But your progress gives me hope! Niki

Niki I know you will get there.
I figured I had to test and push my knee a bit this past week as I was setting my my final plans to return to work.
.
At times this process feels SO SLOW!!!! I had a massage today and OH boy I still have angry hamstrings some other nasty sore spot in my left calf and my IT band and some other band I can't remember the name of LOL are still pretty angry. I'm doing my stretches but geesh.
I'm glad to be back, I have MORE catching up to do before I have to head back to work on Monday!!! oh boy, oh boy!

Our pets really are special, I'm lucky to have her granddaughter "Flirt". Promise is the old dog laying down in the middle of my avatar and her granddaughter is a puppy in this picture behind her

off to do more catching up.

Catherine,

Sorry to hear about the loss of you pet - we have a yellow lab that grew up with our children and is clealy a part of the family.

Congratulations on your progress and please keep us updated on your recovery.

Catherine, my heart goes out to you for the loss of your beloved pet. We have many members who have gone through that with their fellow BoneSmarties....you have lots of understanding here!!! We know how difficult it is to lose one of your furry family members.

I'm so happy to hear about how well your knee is doing. Impressive!!! You are turning that corner. Be prepared to be tired once you start back to work. But you're going to do just fine!!!

I am very sorry to read of the passing of your furry friend. I am a dog lover---I currently have a black and a yellow lab as well as a 1/2 chocolate lab-1/2 golden retriever. I lost my chocolate lab two years ago.

I know that the Bible says that we were put on this earth to take care of the animals, but I think the Good Lord put dogs on this planet to take care of us---mine did throughout my BTKR recovery. I know that you will see your pet again; she is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge

Well I have made it through my first 2 - 1/2 days of work.
On monday I was 9 weeks out!
I went to PT in the morning - had a great day work out, my flex had jumped up to 131.
I had about an hour between PT and work, time to go home and grab my lunch and head to work.

I was FOR SURE tired by the end of the day but it was doable. I had my ice wrap with me and used it a few times in the afternoon. Mostly my IT band and Hamstring as it wraps around the back of my knee to the front is really angry.

today I worked in the morning, again it went well again I iced at least 2 times and it felt good. I have had the afternoon off to rest and relax. On Wed I will work in the morning again then go to the gym and work out.

Thursday - again I will work in the morning and have a massage in the afternoon

And friday like Monday - PT in the morning and work in the afternoon.

I'm going to do the same next week and perhaps even part of the 3rd week if I want to continue with PT - I KNOW I can not "work out" AND work a full day.

I STRONGLY encourage people to ease back to work, it is not just physical tired but MENTALLY tired also.

So true! Congratulations on making it back a bit at a time. I think you'll really need to crash by the weekend.:sleepz:

lol my weekend
a friend flying in for the weekend
we are going to go see Body Worlds - (at OMSI broken link removed: https://www.omsi.edu/bodyworlds ) and that night Cavalia!
I heard that Body Worlds has bodies with knee and hip replacements
I will try to plan an easy Sunday <G>

Your story is amazing...I'm only 10 days into recovery and it's so very helpful to find I'm not alone (the mind can play tricks on you). Good for you.

Catherine - so glad you pointed out the mentally tired part of going back to work. I think we tend to forget this part - until it's too late. The getting up early, sticking to a schedule, enduring the pressures at work all the while still recovering. It's alot to take on!

Hope you get some time to rest!

You are so right about that! I have alot of respect for the joint replacement folks that have to head back to work early in their recovery. It is a long, tough recovery process and as much as we want it to get better quick, it has to do so in its own time.

I enjoy your avatars and the new one of your little Christmas portrait. I really believe the Father blesses us with these beautiful dogs to help us through the storms of life. :doggieshmooze:

Catherine,
Congratulations on getting back to work! Being able to do something that is such a big part of your everyday life has to make you feel "normal" in so many ways. Even if it does taking easing your way back, it is such a very big accomplishment! :thumb: Niki

3 days down,
what a difference from going back full time after my LTKR
I can WORK 4 hours at work and not feel like I was hit by a truck!
and MENTALLY I can do my job well. (that was just NOT the case when I went back full time after my LTKR)s
today after work I went up to the gym and worked out, came home and iced.
now I can spend the rest of the day relaxing.
thursday - easy work out day just ride my bike and 4 hrs of work and a MASSAGE!!!

2 more days and I know I can do it!
my return to work order says I can return full time Dec 14th so that works!!!
I'm going to continue PT through that week then I will be on vacation for the 2 weeks around xmas.
