TKR Another small step forward to reclaiming my life!

Today marks 7 months since my RTKR
My right knee continues to slowly return to "normal" I made a mistake last weekend and that was wearing a very "old" sturdy, heavy pair of chore boots at an outdoor dog event. They were VERY worn in the way I USED to walk. (I also didn't put my lift in or my inserts) I was on my feet and walking MUCH more than I had planned. and OH boy did I pay for it!!!

that WILL not happen again!!!! On the list is a new pair of boots, they were NEEDED as it was muddy and wet but I will not make that mistake again!!!

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Well, lesson learned. Hope you enjoyed the event anyway. Happy to see you're out and about.

Keep us posted. We care.

I have not been around much I hope to get caught up on posts this weekend (really busy inside and out of work in April)
but I have a quick question. I have a very strange sensation in my right knee now over 7 months old. It feels COLD... not to the touch but that is the sensation I have been feeling with it all day. No pain, it almost feels like our knee feels during icing cold :what: maybe it feels numb??? it is very strange but I interpret it as COLD.
anyway it is the strangest thing? I can't imagine it is anything to worry about it has been a weird week with sharp tingly pain that I associate with nerve regeneration on the front of my knee radiating from my incision not along the joint line.
anyway just curious anyone else experienced this before?
my knees are working great and I'm really enjoying being "normal" whatever that is. I'm still so glad I had both my knees replaced last year!!!

I wanted to offer a little update.
almost 1 yr ago I was laid off from my job and after about 8 unstable weeks of worry, I was recalled to my job.
Now a year later both my knees are doing awesome! I'm getting closer to my dream of having a horse in my life again!!!! and we just got notice from my employer that it looks like our days worked per year will move from 202 to 224!!! this is a 10% work load increase (still means I will have 7 weeks off a year - I work at a year round school w/in a youth corrections facility) but also a 10% in PAY!!!
I have been seen skipping around the school saying "I'm going to buy a horsey!" :th_heehee:
I'm still amazed at all the life changing events (death of my father, and a huge weight loss) the last 24 months but with out these new knees a "horse" would not be in my plans! I'm thinking this time next year I will be horse shopping!!!

My knees are doing great, I decided about a 2 weeks ago to just start walking and see how it goes, I am now walking every day between 1.5-2 miles before work and 1 mile at lunch. I FEEL AWESOME!!!!

I just wanted to share with people that now almost 16 months out from my LTKR and 8 months out from my RTKR things just continue to get BETTER!!!

Hi Catherine, stunning update and great inspiration to those of us still struggling at 6 months. Thank you.

Campervan
it seemed like my Left knee was a super high achiever I felt pretty much invincible at 6 months out. (although my right knee sucked at that time) so maybe I just didn't ask it to "do" as much.

the change between 6 and 8 months for my right knee has been very dramatic, I also keep reminding myself I have 4 more months until I reach my 1 year mark!!! so while my right knee at the "time" seemed to be poking a long by "my" observation, it really was on track, needed a few more tweaks - a lift in my left shoe to make my legs same length and some more PT to get my quads stronger as well as NEW shoes to make sure I was walking properly.

so yes walking 3 miles day at times I'm stiff after sitting for too long, first few steps etc but when walking? but after a few steps I feel GREAT.

Your post was such an "upper" for me today!!! I'm thrilled to hear you are doing so well. I could FEEL your smiles!!!

Hi Catherine, your update is very encouraging to me at 3 1/2 weeks post op. It is sooo good to see that you are still improving.

I really do hope that you get to have a horsey in your life again!!!

Thanks so much for sharing :thumb:

Hi! Catherine---see you've posted to a couple of folks here recently. Good to hear from you---seems you are continuing to do well. Give us a complete update if you have the time. We love hearing from BoneSmarties who are out there just living their pain free lives.

thank you! sorry for the absence.
I guess an update is a good idea.
Lets see - I think the most overwhelming feeling I have is that my LTKR is truly amazing life changing gift. I can't even remember how much it used to hurt? I can't recall the pain, instability, grinding, that debilitating pain in any way shape or form. (the mind is an amazing thing) It is STRONG and I would say 98% pain free, only time I have an issue if after doing perhaps too much?? and then sit around lol I do get stiff. Right knee super quick out of the gate then gave me minor troubles. It is also very strong but I still deal with some soreness when I sit for long periods of time.
the latest coolest thing I did? Sunday morning I went out for my walk with 3 of my dogs, after my normal route I felt that old urge....... I had not really felt in 20 yrs, lets keep walking it just FEELS GOOD to walk..... by the time I got home my pedometer that seems to be pretty right on said I had walked 4.7 miles!
did I pay a bit? yeah stiff when first getting up out of a chair or my recliner but I have to stress I have NO PAIN in my left knee when walking and I would say I had some minor soreness after about 4 miles with my right. And this is hard concrete sidewalk walking (a lot of it uneven) I had to give up about 15 yrs ago!!!

I think part of my issue with my right knee is I not made a strong enough effort to get my quads stronger, the pain I have is related to my patella and some inflammation on front/medial side of my knee - soft tissue like But I admit I'm lazy! lol slowly but surely I'm getting there. It was a cool feeling just to walk and walk and walk - and that was the thing I most wanted returned to my life. and it has thanks to my TKR - Almost 19 months old LTKR - a total rock star!!!!! almost 11 months RTKR that gets slowly better every month!!!
thanks for the welcome back! I'm going to keep looking around!
