This will be one of my last posts for awhile, not sure how much internet access I will have over the holiday.

I never imagined this time last year I would be heading into Xmas 2011 with 2 new knees!

I knew last year that shortly after the new year I was getting a LTKR and that has changed my life reopening doors I never thought I would be able to walk through again!

I can't wait for 2012 - with lots of knew adventures and seeing where my new knees will take me.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all!

You have a great holiday Catherine! Here's to a great 2012!

May 2012 be wonderful for all of us!

I am glad to read of you how well you are doing! I am sure and have no doubt that your new knees will bring you great joy---not only in 2012, but for a long, long time after that! Merry Christmas to you!

All the best to you for Christmas and New Year's! We'll look for you in 2012!!!

Quick update!
14 weeks out - I had a good vacation and put 3,000 miles on my car an easy 1500 on my friends car! we were busy!
Overall I'm doing pretty "okay"
this knee while VERY quick out of the gate had been fussier than I remember my Left knee. But it could be just how I remember things? I have been able to work up to about 2 miles of walking but can't do it every day w/o getting extra swelling. I still get stiff when sitting and I'm still having trouble (IT bands) getting out of chairs or other "seated" areas lol

I was lazy over vacation..... only worked out once (pt type work)
I did do a lot of walking and I did ice it as I went.
I'm finding that in the past few week or 10 days I'm SLEEPING better FINALLY.
Today I will be fitted for new orthotics and I hope that will be another piece of the puzzle that will help my recover.
I'm also back to work full time as of tuesday, this worked out as MUCH better plan than my first knee when I was back to work full time at 9 weeks. This time part time for week 9,10,11 then 2 weeks off for xmas break then back to full time!!!
Glad to be back I have A LOT Of catching up to do!

Hi, Catherine....great to hear that you're getting along well. Don't worry if this knee is a little different and/or slower....it will come around with time. You know that you're still early in recovery, right? Lots of time left for it to settle down and play right.

I look forward to hearing more updates from you.

Jamie, 100% I know I'm early, and I think I'm very much in the normal range, my left knee just HAD to be a superstar!

My Left knee that is ALMOST 1 yr old is just doing fantastic, it is just part of me and I hardly EVER think about it.

I think if I could get the soft tissue issues to play nice I would feel a bit better!

Hi Catherine, That is a great report to read, it gives me a good feeling to see how well you have done with both knees - well done :thumb:

Hi Catherine!
Great to hear how well you're doing--back to work full time and walking 2 miles! I, too, am having soft tissue (swelling) issues. It is hard after more than 3 months of recovery to keep in mind that it is still considered early--at least it is for me! Sounds like you had a blast on your vacation. Welcome back!
Niki
P.S. LOVE hearing that you don't even think about your 1-year-old knee anymore! That's what I'm looking forward to!

Yay! Every 'baby' step gets us closer to the 'big' step and a lot further away from the 'negative' lol

We didn't all go through this surgery so we could continue to sit around and do nothing :D

Enjoy doing what you love again!

one clarification, I have not walked 2 miles AND worked full time on the same day!!!!! the walking was while I was on vacation.
I'm getting there, I have still not used Narc pain meds since Sunday - I have them and will take them if I think I need them, no issue there.
but I know I must be feeling better or I would be taking them.
I have new or rebuilt orthotics as of last night, the RIGHT one feels perfect the left may need to be "tweaked" bit. So I will pass on the "walking" until after my next appt.
Its all good!!!! thanks for the welcome back.

Today a new thing happened, I'm almost 16 weeks from my RTKR - this knee has been "normal" in its recovery and I'm not unhappy, my LTKR just happened to be a superstar as I remember it. - sort of like a "first love" :th_heehee:

Today I was walking at Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods Grocery store) - and I noticed... my knees felt the same? a little bit of a clunk in each of them (need to get my quads working out again) but both felt NORMAL - my new normal. it felt GREAT.

But it really just felt NORMAL as I walked around the grocery store. It didn't feel sore, it didn't feel stiff, it didn't feel warm (lol it feels all those at this second as I type) but as I walked around the store I felt like I got the "sign" I needed that I AM getting there. I needed some encouraging feedback from this knee and today it gave me a taste of my what it will be like.

On a side note, I am feeling better since I have drug my rear back on the bike on a REGULAR basis - I worked up to 30 min every morning sometimes extra in the afternoon.
the resistance is EASY I am not over doing it. I'm also trying to walk more, mostly trying to figure out where the "problem" is with my new orthotics - grr still are not right will need to go back on Monday and get them tweaked one more time, hoping 3rd time is a charm.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
