THR 6 weeks and feeling GOOD

Then please post it A few tips on posting xrays

Here y'go then!

It would be very helpful if you would answer each one individually - numbered as I have done - in as much detail as you can then I'll come back as see where you are

1. what approach did you have for your surgery? Anterior, posterior, lateral? You can look here to see the various types THR approaches or incisions

2. what are your pain levels right now? (remember the 1-10 scale: 1 = no pain and 10 = the worst you can imagine. And don't forget to factor in other forms of pain such as soreness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, aching, swelling and stiffness).

3. what pain medications have you been prescribed, how much are you taking (in mg please) and how often?

4. are you icing your painful area at all? If so, how often and for how long?

5. are you elevating your leg. If so how often and for how long?

6. what is your activity level? What do you do in the way of housework, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc., and

7. are you doing any exercises at home? If so what and how often?
This is the most crucial question so please help me by using the format I have left as an example
(which means please make a list and not an essay!)

Exercises done at home
- how many sessions you do each day
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

Anything done at PT
- how many times a week
- enter exercise by name then number of repetitions of each
etc., etc.

@Josephine i will try to post my xray I have a tablet not able to do on my dinosaur flip phone lol. I am not computer savvy.
1. I had posterior approach.

2. Pain level at its highest is a 9 the pain is stabbing, achy and at times throbbing.

3. I was prescribed oxycodone 10 mg. Every 4-6 hrs. I had them change it yesterday to Vicodin yesterday as the oxy makes me headachy even though it helps. I have not got the Vicodin yet which is 5 mg 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hrs.

I have no swelling.

4. I ice constantly and I do elevate my leg.

6. I do minimal housework, like throw laundry in with my reacher, I have went to visit my mom a few times since my surgery. I also rode in the car few times. As of yesterday OS wants me to do much of nothing and hold of on my in home pt until I call them Monday to let them now if pain is any better.

7. My PT was 2-3 days a week mostly the exercises they gave in hospital and walking. My exercise is on hold per OS. I was doing 20 repetitions of the exercise some were only 10.

I will try to figure this xray photo out. Thank you Josephine☺:loll:

 Enjoy your day!

I am beyond tears with this groin pain. It seems to be worse when I lay. The pain goes all the way down my leg. OS doesnt want me to do much walking until I talk to him tomorrow. My trusty new best friend ICE isnt helping, the pain meds slightly ease this pain.

Hello my dear ~
My surgeon said there was a "slight" possibility of fracture during surgery but if that happens....NO load bearing weight for 3 weeks....
Sending you positive healing vibes today ~
I hope you're finding peace and are pain free soon!
Big Hugs ~

Gosh that's high, even for three weeks!

Vicodin (also known as Norco) is hydrocodone/acetaminophen and comes in a number of different strengths so what is yours - on of the following.... it should be written on the side of the packet or container
5/500
7.5/750
7.5/325
10/325

Good

This is all far too much for three weeks out. You really need to read this Activity progression for THRs in order to see what you should be doing at up to three weeks. A lot less than this, that's for sure!

I'd agree with him 100%! Did you read this in your recovery articles, post #5,

Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

7. My PT was 2-3 days a week mostly the exercises they gave in hospital and walking. My exercise is on hold per OS. I was doing 20 repetitions of the exercise some were only 10.
You still haven't told me WHAT exercises you did. I really do need to know this.

@Yokesgirl please, please answer these questions for me. Otherwise I shall feel like I wasted my time replying to you!

Hi @Yokesgirl
It sounds like you're enduring a lot of pain. I'm so sorry. I'll bet it's awful.
Please consider calling the office of your OS and speaking with whoever is on call.
I'm sure they could adjust your meds bringing you some relief.
Let us know how your appointment goes tomorrow.
Prayers for your comfort.

@Josephine
3. 5/500 1-2 4-6 hrs.
2. The pain just started on Thursday being that high it was usually between 5 and 7.

Exercises were

gluteal squeezes 15-20 reps
windshield 15-20 reps
thigh strengthening 15-20 reps
holding on to counter and moving leg out and in 15-20 reps.

Thanks for responding.

Okay - can't improve on that!

I thought it might be something like that but the truth of it is that you don't need to do any of that at all!

Remember this?

Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

So I suggest you stop them altogether as they are what is causing your pain!

@Josephine thank you for your helpful advice. That is what doc said lay of exercise for the weekend and call him tomorrow with update on pain. My only concern is I haven't done them since Friday and the pain is as bad.:umm:

Try to relax..
Do only what you must for now.
You are in my prayers...please let us,know what doctor says:console2:

:hi:Hi there,
I think it can hurt for more than a couple days when we over do. Give it some more time.
Rest and ice as often as you can and come here for support and encouragement.
We're here for you!
Sending hugs!

Neither a weekend or a few days will do any good. It can take upwards of 4 weeks for activity related pain to abate.
