THR 6 weeks and feeling GOOD

@Layla You are so kind and encouraging. Yes I do talk to my mom 2 times a day. My hubby is doing his best but sad to say he is not a very caring person, dont get me wrong he loves me but thats not his nature. He just helped shower me and I feel like a million bucks. Even took someones advice on here and taped razor to my long handeled sponge to shave my legs. Lord knows they needed it.I am going to watch the video. Hugs and kisses to you. Have a blessed day.

Can you tell me how I would find that thread?

I love the name of your thread...these are such early days for you.
The POST OP BLUES are very real...I was frightened/excited pre-surgery, relieved/anxious/in pain first week post-op, and then excited/adrenaline rushed for the following week or so...Hey, this surgery might actually work!
Then, its like all the adrenaline drained out...almost like having time to have the nervous breakdown I felt like I should have had during the toughest part.:umm:

@Mojo333 thanks. So you didnt have pain after the first week? My therapist left today and said I still need walker but I can use a cane until I tire or increase in pain,or limp. Well I was so glad to use the almighty cane I overdid it and boy I am paying for it. So lots of ice.

Oh, sorry! Certainly I did.
I just mean that I had it managed with medication...and I could tell it was temporary ...so I could tell the bone crunching hip pain was gone.
I just remember that it seemed when things were actually improving...albeit a slow process...that is when I had a kind of mental melt down.
I liken it to when my kids had a scary emergency...you just have to buck up and deal with it.
When the crisis part passed, I had time to fall apart.
Please take heart that things will get better and I have never ever regretted getting this done.

FEELING DOWN, I was feeling pretty good yesterday and up until 1 pm today, then boom like a hurricane increase in pain. I did nothing different. I do not want to go backwards. I am sick of laying on the couch, and in my bed. I feel like a prisoner. I hate the way the meds make me feel, I am sick of crying . I am totally at my wits end. I am so sorry to vent on here but I am sure most of you felt like this? I dread nighttime. I dont even know what day it is. Once again sorry for being a downer. Wish you all a pain free and peaceful night.

:boohoo::bawl:

I'm sorry you're feeling so down. You're not alone. Many go through this.
Please realize this is only temporary. As miserable as it feels, it won't last.

I'm wondering if you're icing often enough? When ever you're sitting or laying down....ICE.
It's a great pain reliever and helps with swelling also, which relieves pain.

Can someone take you for a short car ride so you can get out of the house during the day? Can you go out to lunch with a friend or have someone over for coffee and dessert? What about reaching out to family and friends by phone? Do you have any structure to your day? If not, I'd advise planning out each night what you will do the next day. Create a schedule for the time being and try to follow it. It's easy to get in a funk if you're just lying on the sofa or in your bed all day. I'd also consider calling the office of your OS, describing your symptoms and the way you feel on the meds. Ask them if they can be adjusted or changed.

Don't dread nights. Give yourself permission to be off balance right now. You just experienced a major surgery, anathesia and probably several drugs you're not accustomed to. If you can't sleep at night, get up, watch tv, listen to relaxation music, read a book. You don't have to be anywhere bright and early so it doesn't matter if you can't sleep. You'll fall asleep when you're tired and if you're not, stop trying. It will all regulate in due time.

Read some of the BoneSmart threads when you're bored. It will take your mind off yourself. A funny one is NanaMama. Look for hers. I think you'll enjoy it. Don't worry about venting here. It's your safe place. We get it and we'll be here for you in any way we can.

Sending a hug your way and wishing you comfort and a peaceful evening. You can do this!
A couple weeks from now you'll look back and be amazed at how far you've come.

@Layla Hi. Yes I do things in the day. Exercise, short walks in the house. Sit on my pool deck, make small meal some days. I did go out twice, however I get so weak and tired. Its just today felt like I was going backwards. I take a nap almost daily which I never did in my life. Looked at my incision today and cried just knowing there is something cold in my body. I do listen to music that was reommended, i just feel alone. Before my surgery despite the pain I was overly active all day . I gues I just have to adapt. Thank you for caring. You are a huge help with your great advice. Have a blessed evening.

Hi again for a sec...
Getting (so) tired is called Energy Drain. Your body is in healing mode from major surgery.
Your body's energy supply, which isn't limitless, will be used for healing first, not leaving
a great reserve for all the other activity of daily life. It is completely normal to feel tired for quite some time. How long....most likely relates to your body's rate of healing. Try to view this as your body
doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. Our body does it's best healing while we're asleep,
so snooze away without any guilt.

Recovery does have ups and downs too. You will have good days and some not so good
days. I believe you'll soon see this taper off. That "something cold in your body" will give you your life back.
As time goes on it will begin to feel like a part of you and you'll spend less and less time dwelling on that.
You'll be too busy living life once again.
May your days soon feel brighter...
@Yokesgirl

I'm just a week behind you in recovery and can certainly feel your pain! Going from being super active (despite the pain) to a glorified couch potato with even more pain is a HUGE adjustment in and of itself. On top of that, your body went through a major surgery and is trying to heal itself to get you functional again.

is nighttime hard because of the pain or because it becomes even more lonely? Be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to feel as you do - theres no 'right' way to feel or be at this point. It's awful being dependent on others and it's scary not knowing when or if it'll all get back to "normal" again. I know for me, at times I worry if I'll ever walk unaided or without pain ever again. I wonder if how I am right now is going to be the rest of my life. However, then I kick myself in the butt and remind myself that these are all fears and not reality. The reality is I had surgery, I'm in a crappy position being dependant on others, in pain, and not as active as I used to be because of it. But it wont be forever. We're all anxious to be at the end result NOW, we've struggled for so long and waited for this surgery. We are ready NOW. But there is more waiting and recovering to do, the end is NEAR. Be kind and patient with yourself. I dont know if you relate to any of this, but I hope it helps give you some sort of comfort at least knowing you're not struggling alone.

We're here for you!

Constipation was a nightmare for me! I so sympathise. Almost 3 weeks before anything of note happened. Those meds don't help at all. I work in a hospice and all meds are given with stool softeners to prevent any problem from meds and inactivity. I have never had anything as bad in the nether regions department.....prunes, gallons of warm water, 3 different kinds of laxatives, stool softeners, endless fruit and liquorice all failed for so long and it was actually around 6 weeks before something vaguely regular started to happen. It's something you just don't need with all the other pain. I came off meds completely for 10 days which was awful but I had to give my bowel a chance. Codeine based meds were a major culprit as I am unable to take anti infammatories due to previous bleeds. Take note fellow hippies. Take laxido from the start.....!

@Dracia good morning nighttime is mostly about loneliness, head spinning full of all the things you are wondering. I take my meds before bed so pain isnt all that bad. I am starting to think my ice is my baby that I wont let out of my sight:heehee: How are you doing in recovery? Tjhis forum has been a god send to me, i think I would lose it if I didnt have all this support.
