Bilateral THR Twice as Nice - JennyLynne's recovery

Hi @KarriB !!! So nice to “see” you! And trust me, I’m as surprised as you are!
Hope your knee and everything else is going great! I’ll go snoop on the knee side and check that out [emoji5]

Feeling noticeably better today. Woke up less miserable than in days past and only mumbled a few curse words on way to bathroom.

Can get in bed quite easily now- with momentum, I can swing the legs onto the bed. I have to say tho... that garbage bag trick was great!

My one week supply of meds will be depleted by end of day tomorrow. Left a message with my OS this morning at 8:15 and got a call back already that scrips were waiting at their reception desk. Glad that was easy.

The visiting nurse told me that I should call my pharmacy to make sure they have Percocet as she is seeing a lot of places not stocking it.

Glad you are feeling better and making progress. The garbage bag is the bomb, isn't it? Hope you have a wonderful day!

Oh @Layla where to begin?
Yesterday he showed up in my bedroom while I was napping with a giant pile of shrimp and cocktail sauce (for himself) and ate on my bed. I woke up to this weird smell and looked over... didn’t expect to see that! SMH!!

Just took a mega nap and woke up to a delivery of Chicago style pizza (frozen on dry ice). I’m from Chicago and a taste of home is sooo appreciated!

(Gotta hide from Dad, haha)

I can smell it from here. The absolute best. Lots of friends in Chicago area. Enjoy!

You are a superhero, my double hippy pal!:yes!:
Slow we go, so no worries.
You are going to be so happy about this surgery...eventually.
Great job at keeping it positive!
My surgeon attributed my stellar recovery to my attitude! Of course, He didn't see me every day:unsure:

Hey @JennyLynne & @Mojo333, I was wondering if you could let me know, how soon after your hip replacements did you feel better than you did before having them done? Mine is a week Friday and I'm so bad now, I'm now having trouble getting in and out of bed. I see a decline each week in what I can do, both with pain and also strength and I'm getting a bit worried about what it will be like after surgery. How long does it take to see improvement? I'm renting a lift recliner as I'm afraid I'm going to be trapped in bed or in a chair and not be able to get to the bathroom.!

PS..Ha! just read through both of your recovery forums and it looks like 10 days is about the time?

@jwadds today is day 10 for me, so Mojo is the inspiring expert on the long term outlook. But, I can tell you my early experience.

The first time you stand up (probably just a few hours after surgery), you will feel a different pain. The “usual” is gone! I did stairs with PT on day 2 and I was so scared to lift my leg, anticipating the sharp groin pain. NONE!!!

Was it easy? No! But the bone on bone pain is gone! No groin pain. I can press my knees together without pain.

The pain you will feel- the pain from the surgery- that lessens every day. And the strength slowly returns. Monday, I couldn’t lift my left leg. Tuesday, it popped up onto the bed no problem.

Recovery is slow and takes work and patience- but it’s a forward motion.

So me... Day 10... I got up to use the bathroom this morning as always. But it wasn’t nearly as hard to stand and move as yesterday.
Hopped back to bed no problem. Looking forward to PT today because we are starting to work on my stairs- which means more freedom for me!!!!

Love it! :heehee:
You're doing so well. You have the best attitude and sense of humor. It's refreshing.
Your dad must love being close to you since he eats so many meals in your bed, he's obviously
happy with the options your refrigerator holds. He's going to go home 5 lbs heavier. You're the hostess with the mostest. Even though you're stuck upstairs in bed and can't walk. :rotfl:

You gotta laugh, right? Humor got me through the pathetic early stage of recovery. May today bring you many laughs. Happy Thursday!
@JennyLynne

Glad you are doing better day by day. I have 3 cats, 2 look like the picture, the other black. I've been using one crutch to get around easing off the bad leg. The black cat and momma cat (tiger) follow me around. The other tiger cat runs and hides when I pick it up. Thunder (black) and Lightning (tiger) are brothers of the momma Stormy. (tiger) She's still boss. They all have precious temperaments, all love too be cuddled. We saved them during a bad thunderstorm 3 years ago, the momma was starving, the kittens were still nursing, out casts in the woods. Makes me so mad why people throw their cats out to the wild when they dont want them anymore.... You keep up the way you are going and good luck with the stairs...

@Cecropia what a great story! Love their names. I miss having dogs and haven’t pushed the subject because I knew I couldn’t pull my weight in caring for them. But now... I’m thinking we need a furry friend once I’m back in action!

Nice bit of progress today with getting up easier. It's funny how something so suddenly gets easier - I usually don't notice until I've done something in a more normal way and then am like "wow, did you see that!!??"

I hope it goes great with physio today! :fingersx:
