Bilateral THR Twice as Nice - JennyLynne's recovery

@Mojo333 at what point where you “ok” doing the stairs alone, even if only once or twice a day? Really hoping to be left alone next week during the days, but need to be able to get some lunch.

My downstairs isn’t particularly comfy for a long stay. Couch too low. Comfy armchair but doesn’t recline so cant nap at all or really really relax in it.

One of the problems I had was no hand rails at sisters house going outside which were the only steps.:flabber:

I did the PT stairs at hospital okay but with two railings arms length wasn't so bad. Problem is...not any stairs like that.
Obviously you will be doing it toddler style..one foot, next foot so one step at a time.
I would think you shall have to practice so you know when you are confident to do it alone.
I would still have some unexpected moments of lightheadedness for the first month...BP...meds:shrug:
So definitely need to be over that.

Yes the hospital stairs were surprisingly easy. And then I came home and looked up at my flight and was overwhelmed! So much of it is fear!

Fear CAN be a good thing. Barely a week out...a good dose of fear is a good thing.
I think you should give yourself another week and then do some well supervised practice.
You will get there!:friends:

Any chance you can see about a borrowed or used recliner?
It was infinitely more comfy than even the bed...
I don't even know how I got along without it.

I am finding stairs fairly easy now but I only have 4 to get in and out of the house. I am quite content to stay on the main floor in the guest room for a good while yet. Did you look into renting a recliner? I'm thinking the point will come when you might like to be in a different space for a good part of the day.

I think you need to give those men in your life an earful about feeding you. Feed the wounded well and first!!!

Hubs talked me out of a recliner. I’m thinking I shouldn’t have let him! Especially when I start working from home.

I will say.., this sleep number bed is very very comfy- so nice to easy to sit up and elevate legs without pillows and such.

@JennyLynne, you are definitely a trooper! You sound to be doing fantastic even if you are starving! :)

I keep reading about everyone's recliner and really wondering since I don't have one either and just don't have any space in my living room that I could put one. I have overstuffed chair that is comfy and has a nice long ottoman but will have to play it by ear after I have surgery.

Sounds like your living room is similar to mine. I do love my overstuffed chair tho!!

Currently hollering for my Dad because I need some lunch. Oh well... there’s a reason I stocked my bedroom with snacks!

Your thread is cracking me up. Men though. Hope you got some lunch.

Your bed would be a dream to have and I am going to give it some serious consideration for our retirement move in a couple of years. However, I do think cabin fever could get bad if in the same space so much the next 2-3 months. It would be nice to go downstairs for the day, be able to prep your lunch, maybe put at a bit of dinner prep in a few weeks, etc. Mind you, I normally do the exact opposite of what my husband says, especially if he actually says "no" :heehee:

@Carriemay60 Once im comfy with stairs, I think my overstuffed chair will be fine as will the couch soon enough? Hoping at least.

Nurse was here and removed my bandage, said the incisions looked good. Commented on ALL the staples. Um, yeah- I know!

PT just left. That was harder than I expected. Bed exercises are easy for me but trying the standing ones were humbling. We decided to skip the stairs today, and will instead START with them next time, so my legs aren’t tired.

That all sounds good although I'm sorry you have a steady stream of people coming & going! Stairs 1st sounds like a great plan. You can always do some bed exercises later that day by yourself.

I noticed you post somewhere about cover-ups. My scars don't bother me but I do hate it if someone notices and then stares at it for 30 minutes trying to figure out what caused it!! I am not totally clear on where anterior scars sit as I have posterior and now a lateral I think. My last might be anto lateral (sp?). Anyway, you might look at a boy short bathing suit bottom. I know Venus sells them as separates in tons of colours and then you can choose your favourite tops. If you do look at them, consider one to try first. I ordered 6, discovered they fit a good 1/2 size bigger and a full size once wet.

My posterior scars will be quite lovely at the pool, nice and fresh! Ha
I was just browsing two piece suits that have skirt bottoms (and tops that come well past the top of skirt). I think I’ll go for that this summer. And the cover ups of course! I love a good cover up!
Was looking at Swimsuits for All- a zillion options!

My incision is along the thigh, on top but near the side of my thigh, crossing the bend of my leg. So I think @Carriemay60 is right and boy short bottoms would absolutely work

I want to get some over the top caftans for the pool... like I’m in the south of France or on Capri and not suburban Detroit [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
