Bilateral THR Twice as Nice - JennyLynne's recovery

Ooo... what are the big guns? I think all I'm going to get is Tramadol 50mg, which is what I'm taking now 4x/day and it doesn't even scratch the surface. I also supplement with 4000mg max daily Tylenol Arthritis...

@jwadds, is this the Tylenol that has allergy medication combined in it? Would need to research interaction with my daily Claritin, if it is the same.

@jwadds I am taking Percocet in addition to Tramadol. As of now,
I’ve shifted to mostly Tramadol with some Tylenol but still use the Percocet at night and maybe once during day. Also, I was given a muscle relaxer that helps a lot for the end of day aches.

Sadly tho... nothing helped me fall asleep until 1am last night, but I slept solidly until the little guy showed up in my bed at 6:30am... yawwwwn

Dad leaving in about an hour

The boys have tennis and baseball today so the house will be quiet. Which is what I have wanted... but I have a sneaking suspicion I will be bored, haha

Finally had dinner downstairs and watched a movie with my guys tonight! Felt really nice to be a part of a normal-ish evening.

Coming back to the stairs was rough but a little les rough than last time. My poor right leg has to be the “good” one all of the time, even though it suffered the same fate.

Back in bed with an ice pack under each cheek! [emoji23]

That is a fabulous accomplishment Jenny! I bet the whole family was thrilled to have sense of normal with you downstairs. :egypdance:
My surgery was 1/2 what your's was and I only have 4 stairs at the front of the house, so please consider that when I say: Once I was doing the stairs every second day, I noticed the improvement was very steady and fast. No matter if it is stairs, getting my leg over the tub, getting into bed, getting in & out of the car; it is all easier every single time unless I am overtired or have done too much in the day. I would expect you will see things come along a good bit slower than us single hippies but considering that, I think you will start to see some pretty remarkable changes over this next week or two.

I don't remember if anyone pointed out the idea of "furniture risers" for your comfy chair and possibly your couch. Search that term on Amazon, there are all kinds of styles to choose from.

Glad you got to be with the family downstairs more like normal. Too bad you don't have that chair lift on the stairs. Well at least till you got your leg strength back anyway..... I have a ranch house, but still laundry and rec room downstairs. And the cats sleep down there at night in their special room. They get so crazy when we try to leave them up all night to roam. Lightening won't go down unless I take him, he's spoiled,so I do manage right now, but after surgery, got to find a way so he will let my husband put him to bed. The other sweeties go down right away. We feed them at night down there and upstairs in the daytime. They all have comfy beds and lots of toys all over the house too. lol. You are doing great I think!!! And love following your posts.....

Happy to see you got to have dinner with your family. You have such a great attitude. Hoping you got some sleep last night.

How fabulous that must have felt @JennyLynne
So pleased for you... you have such a great attitude for being a double hippie..
Although I’ve only had one hip done I’ve found the stairs incredibly easy.. I’ve a 14 flight of stairs & they are no bother... in fact it seems to stretch the muscles out.
Have a fab rest whilst your men are out today... xx

One good thing that often comes after a string of bad sleep.... a GOOD night’s sleep! So tired from my exciting downstairs adventures (haha) that I slept 9 hours last night with only about 30 min awake around 3am. Felt glorious!

I was weepy yesterday, I think much due to being so tired. I felt deserted by my guys, who were just off doing the typical Saturday stuff. Hope today is emotionally easier.

The guys are seeing Avengers Endgame today. I bought the tickets as a surprise. They were going to wait for me but I couldn’t take it away from them. So they will be gone for the entire afternoon but they are SO excited.

Nervous for tomorrow... my first day all alone. Eeeeeeep!!!

You are doing so well, I am sure your first day alone will be non eventful. You have such a positive attitude. Enjoy your quiet afternoon.

Thank you all for the encouragement! CarrieMay, I agree... everything keeps getting easier. I think it’s the fear that gets me! I sit on the edge of the bed, almost scared to try to swing my legs up. But up they go, no problem (99% of the time).

My right leg just starts shaking about half way up the stairs. I want to try to lead with the left but it’s always been a challenge and I am scared to see if it’s easier or harder now. Scared to even try! Not sure why... but I can’t even get myself to lift the leg up.

I'll be so glad for you when you are back in the swing of things. I have not had my surgery yet, but it really hurts to walk. My husband runs errands that ws usually do together. Yesterday he was mowing and I wanted to mow the front yard as I used to and run the weed whacker. I felt useless, so I at least cooked dinner before he caught me up and about. You are on the other side now, please stay positive, you are a good mom and wife letting them have fun and not being a complainer....

@JennyLynne Funny, I was thinking early this morning that I feel fear is playing a role in things for me. Getting in and out of the house, I am managing quite okay on the cane and yet in the house with the walker I am not putting full weight on my leg and putting a lot on my walker. I'm not even totally sure if it hurts or just feels weird to put more weight on my hip.

Hi there
Its nice to read about the nine hours sleep....awesome!
Also that you were able to enjoy dinner and a movie downstairs with the fam.
Wondering if you're able to be self sufficient downstairs while you're alone during the day, rather than going up and down those stairs? At least until you're feeling stronger, or more comfortable with it.

It sounds like you experienced a little Post Op Blues yesterday. It does happen. I found it to be fleeting though. Hopefully things are looking brighter today. Keep in touch tommorw on your maiden voyage alone. You have friends here.
Happy Sunday!
@JennyLynne

I am so amazed by you @JennyLynne. You are doing so great with your recovery. I am terrified of recovering with one new hip, can’t imagine doing it with two. The blues you were feeling sounds a lot like what I experienced after my second was born. For six weeks I stayed home all day with the baby while my husband and daughter went out and had all sorts of fun. I needed to get my daughter out of the house so I could have some quiet time with the babes, but it was so hard feeling like I couldn’t do anything. I’m sure it’ll get better as you regain some of your mobility. In the meantime, keeping hanging in there. You’re doing great!

@Layla my starting plan is to do the stairs one time a day while alone- go down for lunch and stay until I’m no longer comfortable.

@LAbabymama the blues are real, aren’t they?! I was much worse with my knee, probably because I didn’t see it coming. (Also, I hated maternity leave- I was bored and lonely!!)

Holy lower back pain! Was bugging me all day, and just now started really searing. I was downstairs again for dinner and it made the trip up really rough. Should be a fun night [emoji20]

@SarahBee[/USER] It’s called Tylenol Nightime in Canada, The extra strength tablet contains 500mg acetaminophen and 25mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride. I take one at night along with 650mg Tylenol arthritis tablet and a 50mg tramadol.
Your pharmacist should be able to tell you any interactions with your current meds.

@JennyLynne thanks for letting me know your pain med regime, I’m going to ask for stronger meds than tramadol if I’m in pain. They are very reluctant to give opioids here. I’ve been taking tramadol since January so I’m concerned it won’t be effective enough for what I’m about to face on Friday. You probably don’t need a sleep aid if you just have the occasional night of bad sleep.

I have the same anxiety getting in and out of bed. I sit on the edge of the bed and have to take a few deep breaths to steel myself against the pain of lifting both legs into bed. Same for getting out.
