Thanks Jaycey. No, I haven't been using a rowing machine, I've been sticking to the bike.

I eased off on all exercise from Tuesday through to yesterday and I think it improved slightly. I went back on the bike again today and I'm "tingling".

I may go and see my GP although to be honest I don't know what I expect her to do. Reassure me that my leg isn't falling off I suppose.

Hi Cappy, just catching up after a few days away...

Sorry about the pins and needles sensations, maybe it could be something to do with nerve regeneration as the calf muscle is still healing.

Maybe a heat pack might help the discomfort?

Getting back to Haggis (love my food !) would it be similar to the Faggots I used to have as a kid in Southern UK?...
Yum, yum, yum....

Hope you see an improvement soon Cappy :)

Sorry to hear of your discomfort Cappy. I agree with Jaycey about being something to do with sciatica or something with your back. Ive had lots of weird sensations when my back was at its worst.

Good luck, please let us know what you find out.

Now I have been working hard in the gym and trying to improve my ROM. I'm happy to "suffer" slight discomfort as long as I'm not doing any harm but has anyone any thoughts on this.

Tagging @Josephine: for her advice.

Hi Cappie

Sorry to hear about your back issues. I hope it is only temporary and easing up on the heavy stuff in the gym while bring relief.

I joined a gym in 2006 and ended up with a spinal decompression in 2007 after suffering sciatica. Gyms are obviously dangerous places! I prefer swimming now although this is a bit of a problem as I have a long standing perforation in one ear.

Take it easy for a bit - this fitness thing is over-rated (says he with a heart condition and stent!).

Jollyfoger you are my twin! Had decompression in 2007 as well!

Cappy that tingling is usually a nerve aggravated for some reason. How's it feel since you slacked off the exercise a bit? Any better?

Another thought - did you life anything heavy recently? Hope things are easing.

Thanks all, it does seem to be easing a bit. I suppose that overall everything is still quite new and finding its right place.

I think so Sandy. I've never tried faggots but I believe that they're both a kind of seasoned offal and quite tasty!

Time to take a break from the gym and sit on your lap top a ma bob and chat to some of they hippies.
Maybe time to do some natural walking rather than the bike.
Take care Cappy

Billy

Aye, you're probably right Billy :thumb:

My right leg feels almost normal again. I was back at the gym this morning so I'll see how it is tomorrow.

Hi Cappy, pleased to hear you are feeling a little better...

I had forgotten about the conversation re the faggots... Must admit, if it's one thing that hasn't slowed down for me, it's my desire for food... Just can't get enough most days... all healthy of course! xx

Hi all,

Just a quick update from me. My right leg seems to have settled again and I haven't had any further bother.

Life has just settled down now; too much work to do and too little time. Next target - and I've said this before - is to lose a bit flab.

Hope you're all well !

Isn't it just so - time just flies by.............glad to hear you aren't having further bother:thumb:

Glad to hear that you are doing better. Now if you could just do something about all of that work . . . . . .

I'm just catching up on your progress Cappy, after a while away. Glad to hear you're doing better. Take care
Justine x

Hi Cappie

Good to hear you are doing well and the fitness and weight loss programmes are in full swing.

As you'll see from my thread I'm coming along quite well now (after the miserable first 10 days!). However, there are a couple of things I'd like to compare, as you are much further on in the (dual) recovery process now.

At what point could you do a straight leg lift off the bed? This is still impossible for me currently, although I have started to do it with the knee bent.

Secondly, can you do squats properly yet? I am doing these as one of my exercises and can currently get down to around 120 degress (back to thigh). Even this was impossible before the ops, which made doing any jobs at floor level quite an ordeal. However, the target must be to get all the way down to my haunches and back up again. Can you do this yet?

Thanks. Keep up the steady recovery and don't overdo it (again!).

Hi Roger,

It sounds like your recovery's coming on a treat. We saw "Dreamboats and Petticoats" a couple of years back and thoroughly enjoyed it. The soundtrack is good too but they followed it up with about 20 other CDs which is just milking it I reckon.

I'm afraid that I cannot remember how long it took for straight leg lifts but it was not something that I recall being concerned about. I think it was about a week. I had (have) more trouble with abduction. It'll come.

Squats. I can now do them. I found out in Tesco when I squatted to look at something in the bottom shelf. I reckon that was about a month ago. I still feel my muscles are tight and accept that I may never get 100%. However last year I was almost unable to walk so it's a major win.

I now find that I do things and then realise that I've done them without working out a strategy. For example my shoe lace came undone in the gym a few days ago. I bent over and tied it, something unthinkable a few months ago.

You know the mantra Roger - take care of your new parts!

Glad to hear everything is settling nicely now:thumb:

Isnt that the truth! Its a wonderful feeling to stop in your tracks and just realize what you've done without even thinking about it:th_heehee:-another milestone!:yes 4:

Yes, so amazing when all of a sudden, one is doing things without even thinking about it.. I am sure this is when the body talks to the brain (secretly) of course and says, here we go, time to start being normal.... Ah, the body is such a mystery :)

Sounds like things are going very well for you Cappy!! Glad to hear it. :yes 4:

So glad to hear about the squatting, something you don't think of until you either can or can't. I will be happy one day when I can go to grocery and squat to look at bottom shelf. One day I too will be able to do. Nice to be able to bend and tie the shoe lace without giving it another thought, isn't it?
