warm? enjoy it!
a balmy 7 here this morning, but no wind, so it doesn't feel all that cold
and of course, some more light snow..
i bet i have had 36 inches of snow the past 2 weeks!!!!!
:hairpulling:

OMG! 7!!!! Ummm, no thanks. It was a balmy 80 degrees here yesterday and sunny. Today is mostly overcast and temperatures are hovering around 77 degrees. Still in t-shirts and sandals here in Florida.

Wow, have you ever had a lot of snow. I have family that lives in Canada, and a son stationed in Fairbanks, AK. They all say the same thing, that they have gotten an unprecedented amount of snow this year. I will take their word for it.

Lots of newbies at the Y today and I also think there are a lot of New Year's resolutions moving forward there, as there are every January.
I moved the speed on the treadmill to 3 mph with 1% incline and it felt good. darn! the adductor abductor machine (exactly the one you showed Spid) I always did with my foot on the higher position, but post-op it is more comfortable on the lower position---although I haven't tried it on the higher position lately, so it may be okay, now. I'm gradually getting my weights on the other lower body machines back up to where they were before. Nothing hurts.
It ain't Crossfit, but it ain't bad:SUNsmile:

You are doing great Sissy. Don't be in a hurry to increase the weights. It is more important to increase the amount of reps and get the movements correct. Then gradually increase the amount of weight.

Great news on the treadmill. They have started me on the treadmill this week. The speed is set for 1.2 and I have to concentrate on heel-toe, heel-toe and make sure that I keep the left hand on the handrail so I don't limp. Worked up to 8 minutes yesterday. They had me try out side stepping on the treadmill. Kept thinking about you and those stairs. The PT tells me that I am not quite ready for this as I keep "hiking" my hip to do the side step. Time will tell....

Sissy, great photos as usual, we see some box turtles around here, but also alot of snappers. A few years ago we rescued 1 on our jetty in January that was the size of a quarter. We took care of him for a couple of seasons and then released him into the wilde again. We picked a location that was not frequented by humans.
You are doing outstanding on the exercise, and darn!, is right use good form and increase the reps, the weight can come with time.
cnydutch, guess I shouldn't complain about my 15 degree weather here.
Another reason I am looking for to my next hip replacement is that the weather will be getting warmer, even though we do have snow storms in March sometimes.

Poppet, I also thought you had just a year to retirement, well it gives you time to get the house ready. Hope the UTI is getting out of your way and that you are feeling better.

bellaroma We're having a gray, cool, drizzly day here, so I didn't go hiking as I had hoped, and went to the Y instead. Did a half hour on the bike, and a half hour on the treadmill, and tried the adductor and abductors with feet on the higher rung with no problem. The "start up" soreness and stiffness that seems to hit us all has all but vanished for me. No longer feel it at all after sitting for a short time, and after longer periods of sitting, it is now minimal. I felt so good walking out of the Y, and I realized I was walking fast like I used to, and not hurting at all. But I came home and slapped an ice pack on just for insurance:SUNsmile:
Beth, watch the dog video I posted just now on Facebook. My brother forwarded that to me, and I laughed so hard I scared my cats. Maybe I should post it here?

So Sissy I think you passed that stand up start-up stiff/slowness right off to me like the flu! It started on Wed night and it was in full swing all day today. Thanks for that! Nothing that some tylenol and robaxin can't knock out! That's one of your favorite combos too, isn't it?

Glad to hear you're able to add back in things at your Y workout. Keep journaling here so we can all note your progress. I've gone back through my own thread and others and it's just amazing the progress we've all made! Keep it up warriors!!

So sorry! I didn't know it was contagious!

I have done the same, going back and reading everyone's threads---maybe because of New Year?---and it is indeed amazing how much progress all the warriors have made.

A touch of the stiffness is back for me this morning, probably due to the changes I made at the Y yesterday, but not a problem. I probably did not need to do lower body workout two days in a row, but it was raining....

I basically just used ibuprofen once I quit the percocet. Tylenol does nothing for me, and I also had some tramadol but only took that a couple of times as it didn't help pain for me. I am an ibuprofen junkie. It is like a miracle drug for me. I haven't had any lately; I did take 200mg on Christmas Day for a dull headache, nothing for a week or two before that, and nothing since. The IV Toradol they gave me in the hospital was the best drug I ever had. They can keep their morphine.

The Robaxin was prescribed for muscle spasms or cramps, and I never had that. One night though, I had that "restless legs" sort of thing going on, and I took a Robaxin and it seemed to work. I never had that again, but it sure made me sympathetic for people who get it a lot.

Sissy, you should be changing up your workout and not hit the same muscle group 2 days in a row. For example, after a day of kayaking, the next day you should either do a leg work out at the gym, or ride your bike. Upper body, then lower body. Walking lunges with your hands over your head (and if you want to really work up a sweat, carry a 10-15 pound weight in your hands) will give you an entire body work out. Squats while holding that weight straight up over your head will do amazing things to your thighs and butt.

darn! I know, and I wouldn't even have been at the Y---had planned to go hiking yesterday---but it was raining. I've been trying to alternate paddling, pedaling, hiking, and the Y. But it doesn't always work out that way.

Squats while holding weights would do amazing things for my knees, and not in a good way. You trying to ensure that you will win our sideways race up the stairs?

The meteorologist said this morning that today would be "nasty and gross" but it turned out to be cloudless and sunny for most of the afternoon. Met a friend for lunch and a class at the library, then went for a hike at the park; saw several distant deer, one Sherman Fox Squirrel. My hip would have told Bartram to kiss off, but my knee was glad to have him along.

My bad...I forgot about those knees of yours (she says with all seriousness). Not up to racing just yet....but someday. Competition is good for the soul.

Yesterday's weather was beautiful. I am hoping to have a repeat today. Somehow I doubt it. Nasty weather makes going back to work very easy, as if I am going to be couped up inside, it might as well be somewhere that makes me think ;)

I begin going to PT only twice a week next week as long as I am going to the gym twice a week. If I don't go to the gym, then the PT wants to see me 3x a week.

darn! Uh-huh. Right. I see through that strategy.

Yesterday was beautiful. We have dense fog this morning; I can barely see the lake.

I'm not sure they should trust you in the gym alone. Please don't overdo it. After all you've been through, please just do a little less than you think you could so you don't end up doing more than you should. Don't let your energy and high spirits overwhelm your recovering hip.

No worries about the gym just yet. Only using the treadmill...super slow and sideways, and the abduction machine. I use the leg press at PT and this other leg bench for hamstring pulls and quad pushes.

Today's weather, for those of you who are wondering, is a brisk 60'ish and raining. Yuck! Would have been a great day to sleep in, but alas, I had to go back to work.

Sherman's Fox Squirrel I saw at Wekiwa Springs State Park while hiking Saturday:

Great time paddling today. No hip (or knee) pain even carrying the boats up a steep bank covered with gravel.
Saw woodpeckers, hawks, turtles, all the usual herons...no deer or otters today.

Sissy, I particularly like the bald eagle and chick. During the summer I watched Cornell's Lab of Ornithology live web cams set on a red tail hawk's nest on the campus grounds and two osprey nests in two different locations in Montana. Absolutely fascinating to watch them from egg laying to fledgling of the young. And as always your pictures are terrific!

Love the photos Sissy... I am catching up after being rather occupied with our bush fires...

You sound as though you are in your element when you are paddling :)

bottomshollow Last year, or year before, a refuge in Virginia had a live cam on an eagle's nest. Very exciting, as they had 3 eaglets, all doing well, but then sadly the mother eagle collided with an airplane and died. The father eagle couldn't provide enough food and protection for the eaglets so they were removed and raised and released by rehabbers. The saddest thing was watching the father come back to the nest with a large fish, and finding the babies gone. He was trying so hard to care for them.

Poppet You have been quiet lately. Are the brush fires near you? And how are you feeling now?

I almost didn't post these pictures---nature photography isn't what this forum is about---but some folks do seem to enjoy them.

darn! are you going sideways on the treadmill in preparation for our sideways race up the stairs? I'd better get back in training or I won't stand a chance.
