I find myself checking in on Bonesmart now more to see Sissy's nature photos than anything else. Great work!

bellaroma yes, I stopped the bike for the picture. :bicycle2:

MaxBuck What a nice thing to say! You and I are probably both going to get kicked off BoneSmart if we don't stop advocating the anterior approach so passionately.

All that walking I did yesterday, and my hip feels perfect. I wish my left knee and back were as good. I'm taking it easy today, doing some errands and reading; going hiking tomorrow, then kayaking New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

What does everyone have planned for New Year's Eve?

Hubby and I will be

! He'll go to bed around 8:30 to 9:00pm and I'll stay up and see the New Year in with some bubbly! [Bonesmart.org] Sissie's recovery We've celebrated this way for years! And since the weather man is predicting rain for New Year's Day, we'll just climb in our recliners with warm wraps and watch the Rose parade--it's the only one I really enjoy seeing.

Oh, yes, and posting here for the New Year's cyber party!

Sissy, I wish you all the best in the new year. I have spent some time re-reading most of your thread. I am amazed at how quickly we Warriors have bonded. How we took the first steps and encouraged each other in our independent recoveries, to beginning to tease each other over our mishaps (large and small). It is heart-warming to see how our friendships evolved one post at a time and how quickly we got to know each other. It makes me smile to think of Poppet as our Den Mother; always providing the voice of reason.

Sooooo, I just wanted to thank you for your friendship and photos!

Tammy

darn! that is amazing---I re-read most of yours last night, trying to remember why you were non weight bearing. And I was also impressed with the bonds that have formed amongst us warriors. It would have been much harder without you and the other warriors. I just wish I hadn't let you talk me into making snow angels. Ruined my reputation:rolleyes:

Happy New Year, everyone! I was out on the Wekiva River yesterday as a volunteer, and took a few pictures:

Super photos!

As we have just had Hogmanay (as the Scots call New Year's Eve), and as you have expressed an interest in wallabies, I thought you might be interested to know that we have them here in the UK.

There is a semi-wild colony living on the island on Inchconnachan Island, in Loch Lomond. They were introduced c 1940 (rather an odd thing to be thinking about in a World War?) and are still going strong. (I say semi-wild, as they are in effect captive on the island, but at least they can live pretty much their natural kind of life.) There are some pictures at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/outdoors/galleries/wallabies/08/#title

There are also thought to be a couple of other colonies in other parts of the UK, descended from individuals escaped from private collections or zoos: but numbers of sightings vary from year to year.

With reference to your photos, we have wild terrapins too. These are the descendants of unwanted pets. abandoned after the loss of interest in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And going strong!

Happy New Year.

Glynis

glynis Wow, they are beautiful creatures. It is probably good that they're confined on an island. On our Silver River, decades ago, someone released monkeys on a small island---guess what, monkeys swim very well and they have gone forth and multiplied.

Sissy, amazing photos! I especially like the turtle poking his head up - hey who's that?!? :thumb:

I hope everyone's New Year is getting off to a fine start! I know darn! is experiencing fine weather, but how about the rest of you?

Yesterday I started the New Year off right by paddling 5 miles down Blackwater Creek and then 4 miles up the Wekiva River against current and headwind (achy hip and back this morning, so a lazy day today, probably, after paddling the last two. Maybe a bike ride:) ) We saw 3 otters (no pics) two deer, dozens of woodpeckers (pileated, downy, red-bellied) lots of gators and turtles, of course, and all the usual herons, egrets, turkeys, ospreys. Heard but not seen, many barred owls.

The bird in the picture is a Limpkin.

sissy46... You are an inspiration nature lover warrior :)

Sadly, no not less than a year for retirement.. Sept 2014 is THE month.. It just sounds good for hubby and I to be able to say it to each other.

We came back to the city yesterday, me still with a UTI and hubby with a bad back... We are not supposed to be sick on holidays.. Never mind, we are relaxing anyway :)

Resting day = bike ride... Not for me, resting day = sleeping xx

Poppet Not fair!! You shouldn't be sick during the holidays, or ever.

I don't know of anything that can lay you out flatter than a UTI. Misery. I so hope you are back on your antibiotics and feeling better soon. Your hubby has my sympathy, too.

At least your retirement is next year, now! I didn't get to have that anticipation, as I had planned on working a few more years, but the day came when our whole department was getting yanked around, and I just said screw it and quit precipitously after 31 years with that hospital. Best thing I ever did for myself:yes!:

Sissy, great pics as usual! We're getting quite accustomed to seeing them here. We should start collecing them and get that 'Sissy's Florida Nature' coffee table book started!

Oh, Poppet so sorry to hear about the stubborn UTI. I'm sure you've got a great natural solution you can put into motion to knock it out! SO sounds like he spent more time working than eating cheesecake! Hope the ride home didn't make it worse. I think the two of you need to do some serious cuddle naps!

Thanks @ sissy46 I am slowly feeling better.

dede62 I think the two of you need to do some serious cuddle naps!... Yes it is pure luxury to have the nano naps....

We just keep saying our mantra now :)

sissy46 I can imagine at the time with the upheaval at work it would have been quite worrying and stressful.

We have had and are still having staff cuts. I am so pleased for you that quitting worked out so well for you, strange how that happens sometimes.. We are forced into a corner, make a decision and looking back we say.. Well that really was a good decision. Good for you :)

sissy46, don't you just love the warm weather we are having? I have spent so much time out on my porch just sitting there watching the beautiful sunsets (and the occasional sunrise). It makes me laugh to see the increase in people in my neighborhood out walking and riding their bicycles. You just know that these folks all made their New Year's resolutions to be more active. I hope they stick with it....if they don't, I will have to go to the Mall to people watch.
