Poppet Yikes, please stay safe. I hope this ends soon.
cnydutch The weather in Sanibel was perfect, but January can go either way. We're about 30 degrees colder right now here in the Orlando area than yesterday.
Do you have a favorite place to stay in Sanibel? If not, I can give you some suggestions.

the only place we stayed was
the Island Inn..... had a room in the motel part, not a cabin, but with ocean view,,, just loved it there,
and very reasonable!!

Poppet the heat stretch is absolutely unheard of to have such sustained high temps at or above 100. I'm definitely pushing against the jetstream and sending you some of our cold weather!

So where do I need to ship the croissants?

Heh, heh, I am *not* a warm weatheraholic, but would also be happy to ship some croissants :). I am even closer to the bakery than dede62. I took my brother to that bakery while they were visiting. He came home with a whole box of goodies! Which reminds me, I think I will be swinging by there this weekend ( finally over the flu!!). Any requests?

Poppet, so sorry to hear the rains aren't helping much. Stay safe!

Sissy - your pictures are glorious, as usual :)

Poppet, I'm obviously not closing my eyes tight enough and wishing hard enough to send you some relief from the blasted heat! I wish I could scoop it up and ship you a boatload of it! Hopefully you won't be washing everything in sight and can get some rest after your not-so-vacation vacation and your return to work this week!

bellaroma Hey girl, glad you surfaced! I was getting worried as you tend to disappear when things aren't going well instead of coming here and whining and pitching fits:tantrum:like the rest of us.

My knees are good unless I walk too much, like I did Saturday.

Sissy, hubby keeps asking me if you've posted any new pictures! So do you have any from your last paddle you can share? Hopefully you're just way too busy between the kayaking, hiking, and the Y. I hope you're not overdoing it. Don't make me sick Poppet on you!!

dede62 Of course I'm over-doing it. We're having beautiful weather for paddling and hiking and I can't help myself. I posted some deer and otter pictures on Facebook a couple of days ago, after I did a solo canoe trip on my favorite creek. All the maples and cypress trees, which have only been bare for about 3 weeks, are already budding out new leaves.

I've been staying busy. I'm taking a class on freshwater wetlands for 6 weeks. Today I'll be paddling with the manatees on the St. Johns River, tomorrow my sister is coming from Charleston for a visit, and Sunday I'm going to a concert---Sarah Chang, violinist, with the Orlando Philharmonic. Monday I have jury duty, and while I am willing to do my civic duty, I truly hope I don't get picked for a jury. I am excited about setting off the alarms, though:egypdance:

Four Months Post-OP today! I am so thrilled with my new hip.

All the warriors who haven't retired are back at work, and we all seem to be posting less as we get busier with other things. I'll be sticking around for @bellaroma's next surgery, and to aggravate Poppet and Josephine with my enthusiasm for the anterior approach to total hip replacement:SUNsmile:

Hahaha... You don't aggravate me...

I am so pleased for you that you have had such a good outcome.. But not everyone who has an anterior has the same experience!

The way I see it and keep saying it, is the same basic procedures has to happen once the incision is made, sawing off of bone, chiseling, hammering.. etc.. etc..

I had a posterior lateral and was off my narcotic drugs and only taking paracetamol 11 days after coming home. By 7 weeks I was taking nothing. I had no pain, but I know from nursing that my body had gone through extreme trauma in surgery, and no matter what I did I wasn't going to be able to hurry my recovery.

We all have to be happy with our surgeon. I had faith and trust in him that he knew his stuff.. don't worry, I checked him out pretty thoroughly before hand. But in the end, no matter what surgical approach Sissy we are at the mercy of our surgeon and our own bodies timetable for recovery. I didn't even ask him what approach he was using.. I trusted him!

Sissy, where did you have your hip done? I tried to find someone who would do the anterior approach and was basically told it was just a fad.

Giraffe44 Wow, who told you that? I had my surgery at Florida Hospital East Orlando, but I know there is at least one other surgeon at Florida Hospital Orlando who does the anterior approach.

As has been said many times by our moderators, the end result is the same regardless of approach. But the absence of restrictions meant I could regain my independence almost immediately, which is important when you live alone. Being able to sleep on my side right away, put on my socks without assistance, pick up things off the floor without a grabber, drive on the 7th post-op day, and paddle my kayak on the 28th---these were not trivial things to me.

Neighbor, I am so sorry that you did not have the opportunity to make that choice. I hope your recovery has gone well.

Sissy, sounds like you're going to have quite the busy weekend. Hope you enjoy the concert and your time with your sister!

I'm trying to log in every few days to keep up with folks and keep an eye out for some of the newbies needing a little TLC. I'm thankful for those that logged in and gave me their words of wisdom. Get it - give it. Gotta pay it forward.

dede62 Exactly! How about our stargirl (Star Warrior)---hasn't she done fantastic! I'm sure newbies (and us oldies) appreciate your wisdom and comfort.
I thought you were on Facebook, but maybe not. Okay, I will post a few pictures from this week for you and Debowma.
Kingfisher (male,) Red-shoudered hawks mating, river otter, and Great Egret in breeding plumage.

Beautiful photos Sissy... Maybe you should consider starting a thread in the social room for them rather than in the hip recovery section thread.. That way more members will get to enjoy them :)
