THR Sharon's Anniversary Waltz

Hang in there.... I assume you have something for the fever.... I also assume the fever is due to the trauma your body has gone through.

I'm glad you are home. You're a lovely person!

How is your Temp Sharon? I have been thinking about and worrying all day?

It had come down a little before I went to bed, so I decided to wait till morning. Of course, I couldn't sleep very long, so I've just gotten up and am entertaining myself here. Temp is down to a nice safe 99 degrees.

Oh hi Sharon!
I have been waiitng for an update of your fever. Glad it is staying at 99!
Sorry the hospital was less than stellar (I rememerb Adaflorida had some shocking stories, too!), so glad that you are in your haven.
Yes, we always miss our mothers. I had so many dreams of mine in the early days of post-op, so I took it she was visiting me.
Hugs and continued good success, Poster Girl!

I ran a temp between 99 and as high as 100.7 for several days. I did call, and they said they wanted to see me ... but it turned out to be nothing more than my body's response to the healing. I was told that a temp over 101 that doesn't come back down quickly is the magic number to start to get concerned.

How are you doing today?

Dorothy

Glad to hear the temp is back to a respectable 99. I am sure you will still keep an eye on it. Make it a good day Sharon :) healing energy coming your way, cathy

Phew good news about your temp Sharon. Take it easy

Ann

Thats good news Sharon now be a good girl and get back to your bed

So pleased Sharon, I felt sure it was the normal temp increase following surgery, but it can't be ignored.

Rest well, you well and truly know the drill :)

My fever is now 100.8. The incision area looks fine...no redness, swelling, or tenderness. The nurse said if went between 100 and 101, and stayed up, I should call someone. What does she mean by stay up? Can I wait till morning, since fevers often go down in the morning and then come up at night. I'm assuming if it did signify infection that it would stay up regardless of the time of day. I find the instructions to be much too vague. Can someone get more concrete for me?
She meant if it stayed between 100 and 101 for more than 24hrs then it MIGHT be a matter of concern. Truthfully, all major surgery causes the patient to run a bit of a fever for several day or even weeks after the event - it's the healing that does it. Since your fever is coming and going I would imagine that healing is the reason. No redness or tenderness would certainly be a reassurance that there is no infectious cause.

Jo....I promise I won't start new threads. I keep wondering why you don't put a sticky post on the Recovery thread to remind everyone to stick to just one thread on this side. You could title it: ONE THREAD PER HIP....or something like that.
I have a sticky about putting surgery dates in signatures but nobody reads it! Much the same would apply to any other sticky - people so rarely read stickies!

Sharon

I haven't been around the forum for a while but I am so pleased your second hip surgery went well.

It sounds like the temperature was just a small bump on the recovery road.

You were a real support to me when I had my first hip replacement - you were I think a few weeks ahead of me.

With the second hip you knew what to expect which I think makes it so much easier even though we all know that no two hips operations arethe same.

Sorry to hear about your Mum.

Take care and take it easy and don't try to overdo things!

Best wishes

Dave

Just checking in and hoping your recovery is continuing to go well. I'm glad the fever turned out not to be a concern.

Hi all. The temp continues to rise a little at night.....99 - 100 degrees or so, and then backs right down during the day. My incision is looking lovely....no swelling at all, no bleeding, almost no drainage. Took a shower this morning which felt wonderful of course. Pain is minor....I'm alternating vicodin and tramadol. When the meds are at full force, I could ditch the walker altogether....I don't; but I could. Toward the end of the med cycle, I'm finally aware that I had surgery.

I've had some minor nose-bleeding, but it seems to have stopped now. Not the gushing kind, but definitely more than just dryness and irritation kind. Keeping a close watch on it.

I have a request for all my Bonesmart friends....would you all please think poopy thoughts for me! It's rather ironic...after my sojourn in Costa Rica, I was rather overactive in that department. Montezuma was having his way with me. That finally stopped a week ago. I'm not uncomfortable yet....definitely lots of sound in the gastric area....but all talk no action. I'm pumping me full of chia seeds and flaxseeds, and coffee and tea. Not much appetite, but certainly eating enough to provide grist for the mill. Getting up frequently and walking around my apartment. PT coming later and I will take a longer walk outside.

I'm in the danger zone where I feel a bit too good. I find myself thinking about going places and doing things. Of course this is balanced by the fact that my pain meds keep me sleeping a lot too. So I'm only thinking, not actually doing. I'm letting sleep happen whenever it wants to, which means I go to bed around midnight, sleep till around 3AM, and then get up for a while. I fall back asleep on the couch. The system seems to be working....I eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm sleepy and that all seems to work.

Everybody! Read Jo's sticky about single threads and signature dates!! Of course we're preaching to the choir right? No one here needs this reminder, I'm sure. :)

And life goes on. Hope everyone's doing well. I'm staying caught up on everyone's threads, and watching eagerly for the rest of my July peeps to show up on this side.

Trying hard to be a good girl....it won't last. We all know it won't last.

Sharon

Sharon,

You sound so good! So glad for you and will definitely send good vibes  re:"poop". Just don't let it go too long...know you won't.

My temp fluctuated for days after my 1st THR and then only a little after 2nd. It's lovely that you are having such positive thoughts of doing things and going places, as you well know, it will all come in time. You are so wise to listen to your body...sleeping:sleep: and eating when it wants. All in all rest is one of the most important things and sounds like you are getting plenty. All the best to you...

Sharon,

Good luck with "THAT"...if you know what I mean...

"I'm imagining a bobsled racing down the course......>>>>>>" :thumb:
I learned not to hate warm prune juice...... did not mind it a bit.

Keep up the being wise and practical as long as you can.. FIGHT THE URGE TO DO OTHERWISE!

Good luck

Z

Sharon, thanks for popping by on my thread...

I hope by now you have got the t'other end functioning well... Word of caution coffee is a diuretic, so will remove fluids and make the 'poopin' more difficult and perhaps painful. A few grams of Vitamin C with lots of water will help the trick without the drying out effect.

Also Vit C will help break up the cross linkage and patching of the collagen that began within hours of the surgery and needs to get fixed to start to get the fibres straight. Make sure it is a good Vit C with quercetin added and sometimes zinc as both of these are brilliant for the cross linkage and healing which if not broken and straightened ends up as scar tissue with all it's issues..

As I said on my thread I love reading your calm pragmatic approach to each of your surgeries you are an inspirational lady :)

Fantastic report Sharon. So happy things are going well, well except in that one dept [Bonesmart.org] Sharon's Anniversary Waltz

Wow, what a concept, eat when hungry, sleep when tired, why must we have surgery to learn those lessons haha. Still sending healing energy your way with everyone else, cathy
