THR Seeing the Light!

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
― T.S. Eliot

I'll be the guy that risks and reports just how far is too far!

This is a classic "do as I say, not as I do" scenario...
Or "do as I say, not as I did" in my case. I'm the old wizened sailor sitting on the keg outside the bar, trying to warn everyone of the errors I made in my callous youth while pointing to my peg-leg with one hand and swinging a half-empty bottle in the other. (The bottle contains ice tea. Honest.)

@Bone-obo for me it's still in the present tense... Though I haven't repeated any specific activities that landed me in the ODIC, I tend to find new and creative ways to find and exceed my reasonable physical limitations. I'm sure I'll stop doing that sometime in the next few decades.

Well into my sixth decade, I still cannot help but do too much. Have I learned my lesson? Intellectually, yes...but might I be likely to repeat my sins...yeah, probably.

Hope you are getting better every day.
You are getting through this whole recovery thing with such grace and a positive attitude...
It is serving you well, I think.
Wishing you a wonderful day.
Happy one month hipversary...one day early case I miss you tomorrow!:tada:

Hey there @Mojo333 ! thanks for checking in. Last night when I tore into the frozen coffee cake I was saving because I was so sad and couldn’t take the sadness anymore (and husband had to leave town for a week) you might not have used the words “grace” and “positive”.

I read the post last night about the 4-5 week blues and ice cream — and, well, thank goodness I have none in the house!

Yikes!

But - as I wrote on JoeKnows’ thread, I did drive for the first time for five minutes and did walk up the hill. BUT omg I was so exhausted the rest of the day. AND STILL WITH THE WALKER. I know this is “normal” but sheesh. Tomorrow is my first follow up with the doctor.

I’ll let you know how that goes.

Please do!
Only one month out...I was still shuffling on my walker so don't despair.
You've got this...And pity parties are allowed!
All to be a memory one day.

Phew that’s good to know. Thanks to our governor, we have named him Scott the Walker.

Did you feel like you aged so much post-surgically? I had to submit that picture (to the left) of myself this week to a thing and told my daughter...gosh, I hardly look like that anymore. That must be the thing that people talk about — that pain is etched in one’s face.
What a lovely thought.

Looking forward to when it is time to climb the 15 stairs to the kitchen in two hours — I am craving one of JoeKnows’ bagel sandwiches.

Thanks to our governor, we have named him Scott the Walker.
:loll:
Did you feel like you aged so much post-surgically

Well for first months...with walkers, and potty chairs and all the feelings of vulnerability I hadn't had before..
And post op pain and struggles...yep.
Like an old age preview I wondered?

But by six months out...definitely the opposite!
Now after over a year, I feel decades younger, and folks who see me for the first time since surgery comment on how much younger, straighter I stand...and how I look happy and healthy.
It will come!:egypdance:
One month IS prime time for the blues.
All normal. Keep the faith:wink:

@lovesstars You've got this. A month is a very small amount of time in the context of a human body - my beard takes about that long to grow from scratch to where I like it (and it's not a big beard). It's about how long it takes to home brew beer. It's four Sunday Night Footballs. It's barely enough time for concrete to fully cure. If you were to eat one bagel sandwich a week, it would be four bagels... You get the point.

So yeah, be nice to your body and let it do it's thing at its own pace.

This is entertaining. Quite a few laughs over here. :heehee: It's great medicine.
I hope you have a good appointment today. Please share the news afterward.
It's comforting to get the OS's reassurance that you're on track.
Happy One Month Anniversary on the eve of....
Hope your day is sweet!
@lovesstars

You mention aging post op, I kept looking n the mirror and I looked pale and pasty for the first 2 weeks. It took 2 weeks for the color to return to my skin, my body had better uses for the blood! Luckily I had plenty of time off to recover and became a professional pool boy so I have the best tan I've had in decades. I still look old, but tanner! That's also why I use a picture of my car instead of a personal photo in my avatar.

@Eman85 yep, I need a suntan. On couch all summer — no time in sun. Looking forward to finding a time to go to a tropical place, like @SurreyGirl ! Share your tans with meeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Oh bless! I laughed when looking at my Recovery place’s recommendedlist of what to pack for the stay. It included suncream.

And it turned out my bedroom was right by the 2nd floor conservatory and roof terrace. And yes, I got burnt (I don’t tan). Hubby has a great picture of me with a table outside on which is a g and t, suncream, book and wasp bat!

@lovesstars I feel for you and what has been going on for you this last week. I hope that the pain you were experiencing has improved. I'm amazed at how unfit I have become in a week, and really beileive we can injury ourselves more easily when trying to recover from this surgery!
I'm only six days post op, and have had a back slide the past two days. I had way too many visitors earlier in the week, and have been trying to find what dosage of Traumadol really works for me, without being over or under-medicated. The over visitored, undermedicated, plus the addition of post op swelling finally coming to the fore, it really got me down at about 2 AM this morning. I was all teary as I had to go back up to the higher dose of Traumadol. Felt like such a "failure" having to go up again, but thats what my body needs right now. Have had two of the higher level doses and feel so sleepy....but that could be from too many visitors as well. I am more comfortable though! I really wanted to take another shower today, but not sure I'm going to have the energy....might have to take a nap instead!! LOL. Keep your chin up, as we'll get through this "recovery mess" as @Mojo333 calls it...great label!

@Alitm I am so sorry you had such a mess the past two days. UGH although I love friends to visit it is exhausting. SO EXHAUSTING. Protect your energy — you need it to build up your blood and get better. You are not a failure....you have undergone a major trauma. You need rest to heal. REST and nourish your body.

@lovesstars But I'm always the strong one..whine whine whine :rotfl: . Don't get me started about the constipation...I cleared the decks so to speak a couple of days ago, but am back on the stool softeners, as my high fibre diet just ain't cutting it LOL! That has helped. I don't see the issue completely fading away until I the Tramadol gets cut back and I am more active. The walking around the house I'm doing now is so very little compared to what my normal is!!
Here is to all of us in recovery  Rushing off to :ice: and
